Akshardham Temple in Delhi
Tha Akshardham monument.
The idol of the main deity
Swaminarayana at the sanctum.
Gajendra Pith, a plinth of stone elephants, encircling the main temple.
The newly built Swaminarayan Akshardham temple is located in a
sprawling 30-acre site on the banks of the river Yamuna in New
Delhi. This temple epitomises 10,000 years of Indian culture in all
its breathtaking grandeur, beauty, wisdom and bliss. It brilliantly
showcases the essence of India’s ancient architecture, traditions
and timeless spiritual messages. The grand, ancient-styled
Swaminarayan Akshardham complex was built in only five years
through the blessings of HDH Pramukh Swami Maharaj of the
Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha
(BAPS) and the colossal devotional efforts of 11,000 artisans and
BAPS volunteers. The complex was inaugurated in November 2005.

What to see
Universal values for mankind presented through audio-animatronics and
light and sound diorama presentations from the life of Bhagwan
Swaminarayan vividly portrays the 11-year-old child-yogi’s epic pilgrimage
of India.
A 12-minute fascinating boat-ride experience of 10,000 years of India’s
glorious heritage. Learn about the discoveries and inventions of the asceticscientists of India, see the world’s first university of Takshashila and sail

An intriguing combination of a large stone step-well and a Vedic yagna
kund (sacrificial fire compound) with a colorful musical fountain that echoes
religious sentiments and prayers.
Sixty acres of lush lawns, gardens and exquisite bronze statues of India’s
child gems, valorous warriors, national figures and great women
personalities, inspire visitors with values and national pride.
The Yogi Hraday Kamal, the ingenious lotus shaped sunken garden when
viewed from above, features large stones engraved with quotes from world

Akshardham means the eternal, divine abode of the supreme God,
the abode of eternal values and virtues of Akshar as defined in the
holy scriptures like Vedas and Upanishads where divine bhakti
(devotion), purity and peace forever pervades.
The main building at the centre of the complex houses an 11ft high,
gilded image of Swaminarayan, a 17th century reformer whose
followers believe him to be an incarnation of God. The building is
built in Rajasthani pink sandstone and Italian Carrara marble. At
141ft high, its impressive presence is felt from afar, and its numerous
intricate carved details of flora, fauna, dancers, musicians and Gods
covering its surfaces from top to bottom, leave visitors in awe. The
beautiful monument built without steel, consists of 234 ornately
carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, 20 quadrangled shikhars (pinnacles),
a spectacular Gajendra Pith (plinth of stone elephants) and 20,000
murtis (idols) and statues of India’s great sadhus (holy men),
devotees, acharyas (teachers) and divine personalities.
Akshardham Delhi is one of the biggest hand carved structure of
recent times in the world today. It has become a major tourist
attraction with the foreign tourists who prefer to visit this temple
first. It takes five hours to cursorily glance at the magnificent temple.
There is absolutely no steel used in the basic costruction of the
monument, which is done as per Vastu Shastra. However, this temple
has used a lot of stainless steel for railings for: the main monument,
steps, lines for people and the IMAX theatre (approximately 5,000
running feet); kitchen equipment; ceiling in the main kitchen
(approximately 2,500 square feet); grating (approximately 1,500
running feet); corner guards to prevent the tiles from chipping off;
notice boards; tables and stools in the restaurant; special purpose
trollies and at some other places which are not visible. According to
one of the fabricators, Mr Pankaj of M/s Simple Enterprises, New
Delhi, his company alone has used about 30 tonnes of stainless
steel in the temple.

Now relax in style at railway stations
Passengers at the Bangalore City railway station are enjoying their waiting! Thanks to the shining and comfortable stainless steel
seats, fabricated by M/s Velaar Engineering Works Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, their waiting is made easier.
About 30 sets of 4-seater stainless steel seats have been installed. The seats are in honey comb finish and are perforated at the sitting
area to facilitate air circulation. Each of the 4-seater uses about 35 kg of stainless steel. The material has been supplied by M/s Salem
Steel Plant, SAIL.

Stainless steel gas storage cylinders
hold much more and easier to handle
Stainless steel DURA-CYL Liquid Gas Cylinders are an
innovative way of using gas for oxy-cutting, argon
welding, lancing, nitrogen purging and shrink fittings
applications by low pressure gas stored at cryogenic
temperature. One DURA – cylinder has a capacity of
almost 20 Nos. of high pressure carbon steel cylinders
thereby allowing less handling, less space requirement,
less residual gas losses besides offering much lighter
weight and cryogenic grade high purity of the product.

The central theme behind the 6.7 metre high MG Road sculpture
(near Koshi’s restaurant) stemmed from the concept of DNA helix.
This was combined with the concept of wheel, as the most important
invention in human history. Approximate SS tonnage – 900 kg.
The sculpture (6 metre) and the coloured mural (5.1 x 9.1 m) at
M/s Biocon India Ltd, Hebbagodi, was conceived as a work of art
to depict in an aesthetic fashion the great importance of biotechnology in human life today. Approximate SS tonnage of
sculpture – 1.8 tonnes; mural – 1 tonne. Mr Joseph Antony, a
fabricator, has helped Mr Arakkal in converting the designs into
the final form.
