Date Claimers - Chev Club QLD
Official Newsletter of the Queensland Chevrolet Car Club Inc PO Box 235, Coorparoo. 4151. www.chevclubqld.com Email: [email protected] Date Claimers – Next club meeting – Tuesday 2nd October 2012 at 8.00pm Harrigans – 14th October 2012 Ramblings from the Editor Please note everyone – my email address is [email protected] Please when you change your email address, notify Elton or Doreen so we can make sure that you get your newsletter. Regards Tracey Douglas Last call for anyone interested in attending the Christmas function; the Club needs to know what people want to do who are not able to attend meetings. The date will be Saturday 24th November in the evening now with the Sit Down Comedy Club at the Calamvale Hotel – cost is around $25 for the show but we have to work out the details. We need people who are interested to register with Doreen Ord as soon as possible please so we can finalise details at the October meeting. The President’s Report October 2012 Well the 2012 Chev Festival has come and gone and we can all relax until the next one rolls around – in Goulburn from 20th – 23rd September 2013. There are a few people who won’t be putting their hands up to organise the next one in Queensland, wherever that may be as it’s just TOO much work. More people are needed to help, especially before the event to program everything and allocate tasks so that volunteers don’t get burnt out, during the event and even after the festival especially if it’s away from the S.E. corner of Queensland as the logistics required to properly stage a long distance event are pretty huge. Overall, the festival was a success with lots of people saying it was very well run (at times it didn’t seem like that from the inside!), the main glitch being the polo shirts which were ‘orientally downsized’. We’re still working on sorting out the correct sizes and hopefully we can send them out or have them at the meeting in November for the locals. Trophy winners are included in this issue of the newsletter along with some photos. More pix will be available on the club Facebook page. Harrigans Rod and Custom Show will be held less than two weeks after the October meeting so final preparation is happening as you read this. This year we have more new cars on show, more traders, more sponsorship.... and probably more work for the few that help out on the day – this is a call to willing club members to help man the entries, assist with setting the cars out, and other little jobs like taking photos can all help lighten the load for the team. See you at the meeting or at Harrigans on SUNDAY 14th OCTOBER. Happy cruising. Regards, Elton Walker President Queensland Chevrolet Car Club Inc Is your vehicle registered under Queensland Transport’s Special Interest Vehicle Scheme (SIVS)? Apologies: Mel Tomson; Eric Tomson; Peter Guthrie; Bruce Morris; Jenny Guthrie; Chris Maskell. Attendance: 32 Minutes of previous meeting: Moved by Elton Walker, seconded by Trevor Kitson. Elton expressed his thanks to Ian for chairing last month’s meeting. Inward Correspondence: 41 pieces. Outward Correspondence: 5 pieces. Moved by Elton Walker, seconded by Mike Hosie that the inward be received and the outward endorsed. Treasurer’s Report: Doreen Ord read the report for August. Balance carried forward at 31/7/12 - $11,468.93; balance at 31/8/12 - $11,107.08. Elton Walker moved and Glennis Bone seconded that the treasurer’s report be accepted. QHMC: Meeting to pay fees, need a representative to go; Theo was volunteered. QHRP: Meeting on 12/8/12; running event on 18th November at Rocklea; this is designed to raise funds to run a Show in May 2012 in Brisbane. Interstate people still keen to support a Queensland show. Have asked clubs for a loan of $3,000 towards this event; 2 clubs have already agreed; the money will be a loan with appropriate paperwork. Two big events already booked by them for next year. Ian willing to propose that the Chev Club give them support to $3,000; Elton seconded the motion; carried. QHRP having a meeting next Monday and we need a delegate as Ian is a director. General Business: Need BBQ volunteers after the AGM [from February 2013] – Ian and Jan have done it long enough. Chev Festival – BBQ on Friday will not be at the Surf Club as they double booked themselves. Rum City Rodders have stepped in and will run this event with a steak sandwich and drink. Registration will be at the CWA hall from 5pm to 7pm on that Friday evening. Wine has been organized for entrants with a Festival label. Polo shirts are almost complete; will be ready by Wednesday. Have 145 people booked for the dinner; only 89 entries to this date but 12 have 2 cars; WA cars had a major breakdown on the way over. Have orders for 118 shirts but have ordered 200 so we have extra to sell. One entry for Princess so far with 5 ladies doing handicraft. Plaques – they have done 140 and we only wanted 130 so we need to pay the difference. Doreen has done an identity card for the car owner on a lanyard as well as wristbands for all. Don’t use Goodwood Road from Childers to Bargara as there are major road works. Tin signs - cost $18 to produce, very good quality, we could sell them for at least $25; Elton to order at least 50. Can do a similar one for Harrigans as well. Gasoline Magazine has donated two 12 month subscriptions to give away. Trophies are all ready. Harrigans: have organized a limited 5th anniversary polo shirt; could be a grey or a light brown in colour; cost is $35. Australian Street Machine Federation are having a sticker promotion campaign to put on your street machine, not your daily driver. Classic Driving – offering $500 per person back to the Club if the Club promotes its tours to the USA – trips are quite expensive. Christmas Party: 24th November dinner from 7pm; need to book more than needed then adjust down; $65 per person but Club is subsidizing $25 so cost is $40 per person. Club Runs: Redneck Scroungers was a bit of a flop; a bit disorganized. We have the Lakeside run in November as well as QHRP event. Raffle Winners: Meeting closed at 9.15pm. Next meeting on 2nd October 2012. 2012 National Chevrolet Festival Social Page! Wayne and some ‘bright’ friends!! Committee hard at work on the day! It is the standard DIN size (approx 52mm x 185mm) and has classic styling which suits any application, including later models. HIDE IT! The secret or hidden system (below) is a hideaway audio solution for any vehicle, custom, classic or HOTROD. Leave the original radio in your classic intact! The small head unit will mount anywhere with the 3.2metre cable to the tuner/amp. Wireless remote control, 200w, 4 channel, USB input, direct iPod interface, AUX input, CD changer input (10 disc changer optional), 4 channel RCA output etc. AUTHENTIC REPRO NEW!! NEW!! NEW!! With this amazing new range you can have the real thing plus so much more. These radios have the look and feel of the original radio, but with the performance you expect from today’s technology. Shown above is a 1967-68 Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird radio. From the dash every piece you see has been designed to match the original. Meticulous attention has been paid to detail. For example, the thread and diameter of each shaft bushing is the same as was used originally. The dial fonts are exact duplicates. The dash bezels are die cast. The Wonderbar radios seek up the dial until they reach the top, then return rapidly to the bottom and start over just like the originals did. The tuning knob and pushbuttons make the dial pointer move the way they’re supposed to. No digital displays. Behind the dash it’s a different story. Powerful electronics are built into a chassis that is only 21/2 “ deep, making some of these radios only 10% of their original size! Does size matter? There is room for electric wipers and/or air conditioning! All radios have RCA inputs for Ipod, MP3 or XM options. Radios with push-buttons have 10 presets (5 AM and 5 FM) When an OEM AM/FM radio wasn’t offered, the dial background is subtly printed with the FM dial scale. Inside the case is our proven digital tuner system with a 180 watt RMS power amplifier! Two powerful microprocessors monitor the “human interface” (knobs & pushbuttons) and, through the magic of software, make the radio dial imitate the original while pumping out a sound that is cleaner and much more powerful than the best radio that was available when your car or truck was new! These radios are available for all 1947-59 Chevrolet and GMC Trucks, 1951-52 1955 56 57 58 1961-62 Chevy Car, (1957 & 1958 Chevy are `Wonderbar`), all 1958-66 Corvette radios, 1966 GTO, 1969-70 Chev Impala, 1966-72 Chevelle, 1967-76 Camaro, 1969-76 Nova. 1949-52 Ford Cars, 1951-52 Ford Pickup, 1954 Ford Car, 1955 T/bird, 1966 Pontiac Tempest/Lemans/GTO, 1969-72 GTO, 1967-77 Firebird, 1970-74 Mopar `E` body Barracuda & Challenger, 1971-74 Mopar `B` body Coronet Charger Belvedere Satellite. Tooling is being made up for many more hard-to-find radios, call for more information. Ask about applications for cars and trucks with 6 volt systems. European channel spacing optional on all models. Each radio comes with a detailed instruction booklet, and Aussie warranty. Designed and manufactured in the USA. SPEAKERS Another clever product is the DVC speaker (right) which replaces your single front factory speaker. This is a `2 speakers in 1` system and comes with any necessary brackets. The wiring from 2 channels of your new radio connects direct to it. It sounds good, and will handle 140Watts. Replacement kick panels with functional vents, complete with speakers are available, as well as slim line `undercover` and `back seat` speakers. GETTING STARTED Call Phil at MY409, he will guide you through the selection of radios and speakers for your application, or follow the `links` on the web site.
