will be received at the Brigham City Offices, 20 North Main Street, until 2:00
pm on May 3, 2012 for the 1200 WEST
SPORTS COMPLEX MULTIPURPOSE
FIELDS AND BORE PROJECT.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The
work consists of the construction of
approx. 800 l.f. of 12” PVC, 95 l.f. of
15” RCP, and 720 l.f. of 15” PVC storm
drain line, approx. 210 l.f. of 24” steel
casing to bore under a UPRR crossing,
and approx. 19,000 cu. yd. total of cut/
fill earthwork grading.
LOCATION OF THE WORK: The
work is located approximately 2,000 feet
east of 1200 West and 1 mile south of
Forest Street in Brigham City, Utah.
COMPLETION OF THE WORK:
All work covered by the contract documents shall be completed on or before
June 22, 2012.
OPENING OF BIDS: The bids will
be publicly opened at 2:00 pm on May

Council hears information concerning
potential EPA Mandate coming

Paul Krauth from the Utah
Division of Water Quality gave
a presentation to inform the
council what is happening with
potential EPA mandate coming,
so they can prepare. Nationwide
testing is showing excess nitrogen and phosphorus in waters
caused by fertilizers. The excess
nutrients in the water create nice
big green blooms of algae which
grow then die and fall to the bottom of the water. This causes
dead zones in the water which
kills fish because there is no oxygen. The algae also causes swimmers’ itch if people swim in it
and creates a toxin which can be
deadly if used for drinking. Treating water to eliminate these nutrients is very costly. If standards
are set Bear River City could be
required to put in a clarifier to
filter the water and add chemicals which cost one million dollars. Chemicals alone could cost
Bear River City $31,000 a year. If
Bear River City could find a way
to implement spray irrigation
rather than discharging into the
Malad River they could be out
of the loop and not required to
meet these standards.
Brooke and Cindy Denkers informed the council they
are ready to build a new home
on 4800 West 6100 North. They
came to the council to get answers to some questions they
had pertaining to roads, sewer,
water, irrigation and building
permits.

The deadline to license dogs
was April 1. Letters have been
sent to those who have not licensed. The 15 day notice to
license ended April 23, after
which the licensing fee doubles
and citations will be issued.
There are vacancies in the
planning commission, board of
adjustment and library board
that need to be filled. Please
contact the city recorder if willing to serve.
The council was asked to start
thinking of items that needed to
be included on the next years
budget. Council members discussed different items in each
department.
Mayor Holmgren stated that
the mower at the park has been
serviced, the blades sharpened
and is ready to go. The mayor
has also noticed vehicles being
parked on the lawn around the
cookhouse and tracks going in
and out of the east gate to the
bowery during a recent ball tournament. There will probably be a
lot of broken sprinkler heads as
a result. We don’t charge for the
use of the park for ball games,
but will have expenses because
of it. The next town meeting will
be held on May 2, at 7 p.m
Eugene and Toni Christensen
have enjoyed a few days in Oregon, the first night staying with
Eugene’s aunt and uncle, Dee
and Carol Christensen. They
then traveled on to join some
high school friends staying in a
beach house. They had a wonderful time.
Get well wishes are sent to
Ryan Gardner who suffered a
fall causing damage to his knee.
He had to have it replaced, and
is now enjoying therapy. Ryan’s
wife, K’Lynne, also reported that
their son, John, is able to be back
to work after his recent brain
surgery. The surgery was very serious and took several hours.
Artell Brailsford received
some sad news this week when
she learned of the sudden death
of Suzanne Tolman, her sister
Nola Burton’s granddaughter.
Suzanne was from Honeyville.
Sympathy to her.
Get well wishes are sent to
Pat Anderson as she recuperates
from surgery she had this past
week. Her daughters, Teresa and
Susan are staying with her to
help out with her needs.
