MPLS LYN LAKE At the June 2nd meeting of the Minneapolis Lyn-Lake Lions it was decided due to declining membership to disband. However, we have one fundraising commitment: monitoring Uptown Cub parking lot during the Uptown Art Festival held Friday August 5th to Sunday August 7th. All funds raised will be donated to LCIF. We are committed to monitor the parking lot from 11:30 AM to 7 PM on Friday August 5th. From 9:30 AM till 7:00 PM on Saturday August 6th , and from 9:30 AM till 5:30 PM on Sunday August 7th. Two Lions are needed to monitor the parking lot for each shift (shifts are flexible). A total of 56 volunteer hours are needed to cover the three days . With only six Lyn-Lake Lions available we need help! If any Lion in District 5M5 can help with this fundraiser, please contact Lion Rod Jenkins at 952-922-3178 or at [email protected] before August 1st . Please note that District 5M-5 has not increased our own district dues. This dues increase is because, at the 2016 Annual MD5M Convention, the delegates voted to increase the Multiple District Dues by $1.00 per member for the MD5M Administrative Fund. Our District Treasurer bills all Lions clubs for both District and Multiple District dues. Of the $14.35 annual dues per member dues, $6.55 goes to our Multiple District, $7.80 to our District. Therefore, in July Lions clubs in District 5M-5 will receive an invoice for $7.18 per member dues and another invoice in January for $7.17 per member dues. Each year the event has grown and prize/ gift contributions from local business’s allow the club to make this event even more profitable as more of our ticket sales go right to our community fund. In the past the event has been our 2nd largest fundraiser during our year. The event’s success would not be possible without the ever increasing partnership with the city of Eden Prairie which had renewed focus starting 4 years ago. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a few weeks ,the summer of 2016 will be half over! Has your club scheduled a knowledgeable and entertaining summer speaker yet? One of the very best recommendations our 5M5 Speakers Bureau can recommend is the Minnesota Twins team historian and curator, Clyde Doepner. He’s been with the Twins for well over 30 years, and he brings a wealth of knowledge. artifacts, and interesting stories to your meeting. Have a small club? Plan a joint meeting with a neighboring Lions club, or have an open meeting for members to bring prospective new members to. Or maybe have a steak fry. The possibilities are endless, and with Clyde as your speaker, you will have a program that will make you proud to be a Lion! Joseph H. Schwalen, Sr. Age 71 of Eden Prairie passed away on May 24, 2016, with loved ones by his side. He attended the U of MN and was enlisted in the Army from 196567. He was a mechanical engineer and commercial printer who traveled in the USA and Europe and received many honors for his excellent service. His passion was racing, his SLK Mercedes, and the Lions Club of Eden Prairie. He mentored many members and gave freely of his time and encouragement. Survived by wife Nancy; son, Joseph Schwalen; step-daughters; Jill Nieman and Anne Vaughan (Trey); grandchildren Nolan and Georgia. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, June 22nd, 10:30 AM visitation and service at 11 AM followed by a luncheon.
