to help you add the nutrition of Ensure to your daily menu.
Ensure tastes best when chilled.

products that are similar in terms of energy content.

Ensure tastes best when chilled.
Serve Ensure Fibre in a glass to decrease the metallic taste.
Add a few drops, to taste, of extracts and essences such as
vanilla, almond, lemon, orange, cinnamon, coconut, or chocolate
(available in grocery baking aisles or in health food stores).
Add 1 teaspoon butterscotch syrup or 1 tablespoon powdered
butterscotch pudding mix and stir to blend. Add some brown
sugar to this for more flavour.
Add 1 teaspoon peanut butter to Ensure Plus Calories,
and mix in a blender.
Pour Ensure into individual cups. Place a coffee stick in the
middle of each cup and freeze to make delicious popsicles.
Use your favourite flavours.
Use in cream soups or cereal in place of milk.
Add to coffee instead of milk or cream.
Place frozen fruits and Ensure in a blender and blend to desired
consistency.
Think of replacing milk with Ensure in your regular recipes.
This will increase the nutrition and energy content of your recipes.
For example:
– Add 1 bottle of Ensure to dilute 1 can of condensed soup.
– Make instant pudding using Ensure.
– Add some Ensure to your breakfast cereals. Skip the added
sugar since Ensure contains sugar.
– Ensure can be used to make puddings, bread puddings,
or any other bakery items where milk is normally used.
Find your best time of day and eat more at this time, even if it is
first thing in the morning.

Tips for healthy persons
Tips for persons with medic
When you don’t feel like eating some days or you just don’t have the energy,
you can choose Ensure. It is great for an occasional breakfast, lunch or a
delicious between-meal snack. Convenient, fast, as well as complete,
balanced nutrition.
When you don’t have time to eat on busy days, carry along a bottle of
great-tasting Ensure. Ensure Regular provides complete, balanced nutrition with
essential vitamins and minerals to help you stay active and energetic. Ensure is
available in a variety of delicious flavours, so it can help you meet your energy
requirements while you enjoy a different and great-tasting product every time.
If you want to have more fibre to help you maintain normal bowel function,
Ensure Fibre can be used as it gives you 3.4 g of dietary fibre per can.
If you want to add scFOS to your diet, Ensure with scFOS can be used as it
provides you with 3 g of NutraFlora scFOS (short-chain fructooligosaccharides)
per 235 mL. Consumption of 3 to 10 g of scFOS per day* can be part of a healthy
diet. For more information about scFOS consult your Health Care Professional.
Ensure with scFOS can be used with or between meals or, in appropriate
amounts, as a meal replacement.
If you have to watch your cholesterol and/or sodium intake, you can still use
Ensure products, as they are acceptable for low-cholesterol and sodium
restricted diets. Ensure products are also gluten-free.
If your calcium intake is inadequate because you don’t have the chance to get
your daily servings of milk or milk products while you’re on the road, Ensure
Regular can be a convenient solution.
One bottle provides 27% of the
recommended daily intake in
calcium. It also provides 9 g of
protein and can be used as a
healthy snack.
If you are active on a regular basis,
Ensure High Protein can be taken
as a post-exercise drink. Experts
recommend a post-training snack
0 to 30 minutes after the exercise,
providing a minimum of 7 g of
protein and the equivalent of 1 to
1.2 g of carbohydrate/kg of weight.1
Ensure High Protein can help you
meet those requirements.

Cancer
Early and appropriate nutritional intervention is important to help improve patient
outcomes.2 A balanced diet is essential and may be adapted based on your
tolerance, tumour site, treatment and its side effects, and disease stage. Some
modifications in your diet may be indicated, such as texture modifications and use
of nutritional supplements3 such as Ensure Regular or Ensure Plus Calories. Ensure
products are useful to increase your calorie and protein intake. This will help you
maintain your weight and can even prevent you from losing weight. In fact, 2 bottles
of Ensure Plus Calories provide 710 Calories, 27 g of protein, and represent an
excellent source of vitamins and minerals, such as 54% of RDI for calcium and
60% of RDI for vitamin D.
If you experience difficulty to purchase food and prepare or consume your meals,
Ensure products can be very helpful. They can either replace your usual meals or be
used as a supplement between meals.
Eating a variety of foods is especially important for people with cancer. Your body
needs many nutrients from many sources to meet the physical and nutritional
challenges ahead. But you face unique issues as well. For example, you may have
difficulty maintaining a reasonable weight. Or maybe your treatments are causing
nausea. And perhaps you’ve had surgery and need help healing.
If you’re concerned about weight loss, adding extra calories to your diet may help.
You’ll find high-calorie foods are your ally. You can sip high-calorie drinks, such as

New, effective medicines are

new bone. These medicines need a
calcium- and vitamin D-rich diet to be able to perform at their best. This makes
calcium and vitamin D intake very important for people who take these medications.

The importance of good bone health
becomes painfully clear when bones
are not healthy. The most common
bone disease is osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is called the silent thief
because often there are no warning
signs until a fracture occurs.
When it comes to good bone nutrition, calcium is important. Bone is nearly
65 percent mineral, and most of that is calcium. So calcium is critical to maintaining
strong, healthy bones. But bones aren’t only minerals. They’re also made up of living,
growing material. And that means that many nutrients are important to bone health.
This chart lists a few of the nutrients most important for bone health.
Calcium – Aids in the formation and maintenance of bones
Vitamin D – Helps the body absorb calcium
Protein – Helps build the framework of the bone
Phosphorus – Factor in the formation and maintenance of bones
Magnesium – Factor in bone development

To get all those important nutrients, you may want to add Ensure Plus Calories to
your diet. It is a delicious drink that offers a wide variety of nutrients including calcium,
vitamin D, and protein.
GI disease
If you are suffering from a GI disease, you may be at risk for malnutrition. You may
experience malabsorption, reduced appetite and weight loss. Ensure Plus Calories may
be used to help you meet your daily energy requirements. Ensure is a convenient way
to easily add protein and calories, as well as essential vitamins and minerals you need.
By doing so, Ensure Plus Calories can play an important role in the overall
nutritional management of your medical condition.
Acute infection
If you have an acute infection (such as pneumonia, chest infection, flu…), your food
intake may be decreased due to illness, fever, and/or lack of mobility. At the same time,
your calorie and protein requirements may be increased due to recovery processes
(healing). Ensure Plus Calories may help you add extra calories and protein. It can also
help you gain or maintain weight.

Pre-/post-surgery
When having surgery, you’re in the care of an experienced health care team, but you
want to do what you can for yourself. You can build a good nutritional base to help
pave your road to recovery. Illness and injury take a nutritional toll on the body. Also,
people who have had major surgery need extra protein, calories, and other nutrients
for repair and recovery. People who are well nourished are likely to recover from
illness, injury, and surgery better and more quickly than those who are poorly
nourished.
Protein is especially important for healing. The body uses the amino acids in protein
to build and repair body cells and tissues. People who aren’t well nourished may
not have the nutritional resources – especially the protein – they need for the body’s
“extra” work of healing. People also need adequate calories, vitamins, and minerals
to support healing.
Before surgery: Eat healthful, well-balanced meals, and continue right up until your
doctor tells you to stop eating and drinking in preparation for your surgery. Ensure
products can be of great help to provide you with extra calories and nutrients.
After surgery: If you or your dietitian/doctor are concerned that you can’t get
adequate nutrition from regular foods, consider Ensure products. They are
convenient and easy to use while you’re recovering. And they will give your body
the nutritional help it needs on your road to recovery. There are several forms of
Ensure. Your dietitian or doctor can help you select which is best for you.
After oral surgery: After oral or maxillofacial surgery, your body needs good
nutrition to promote healing. If you don’t eat enough of the right food, you’re likely
to lose weight, and you may not heal as quickly.
Some people look forward to weight loss as a post-surgery “bonus”. But this is the
wrong time to diet. Weight loss can be risky now, when your body demands calories
and protein for healing. You need enough nourishment to recover quickly and to
avoid unnecessary problems, such as poor healing or infection.
That’s why good nutrition is so important after oral surgery – just when eating may
present a real problem. Chewing can be difficult and painful when you’re recovering
from multiple extractions, surgery for dentures, or other oral surgery. If your jaws are
wired shut, normal eating is impossible. Your food must be in liquid form.

Nutritional Infor
Tips for persons with medical conditions (continued)
Ensure Regular
A few years ago, your only choice would have been a diet of blenderized foods, which
can be unappetizing, difficult to prepare, short of needed nutrition, and low in fibre. To
improve your nutritional intake at this critical time, nutrition experts developed products
as Ensure. These products are delicious, versatile, and easy to eat, with the benefits of
a nutritious meal. Used in sufficient amounts, the Ensure product line of complete,
balanced nutrition can serve as a meal. Consult with your dietitian to have specific
information on the quantity you need.
– The majority of people will need 2 bottles of Ensure to replace a meal. For
example, 2 bottles of Ensure Plus Calories provide 710 calories and 27 g of
protein, and each bottle represents an excellent source of vitamins and minerals.
Polypharmacy
Drugs may affect your food intake by influencing appetite, taste or smell perception.
They may also have an impact on your GI tolerance (constipation, diarrhea…). Ensure
products can be incorporated in your daily meals to provide extra energy and tasteful
alternatives. If you have medication-related questions, consult your doctor.
Involuntary weight loss
This phenomenon can happen in the elderly. It can increase disease susceptibility, be
the cause of poor healing or surgical recovery, and even mortality. Ensure products
can be used to increase protein and calorie intake. Always consult a doctor when
you have an involuntary weight loss.
Ensure use in dieting
One of the most common mistakes seen with people trying to lose weight is the low
intake of protein, especially at lunchtime. If you want to compensate for the lack of
protein in your diet, include Ensure in your meal plan. Ensure High Protein
provides 12 g of protein and 225 calories per bottle.
Another common mistake with people dieting: skipping meals to reduce the daily
energy intake. Skipping meals usually encourages overconsumption of food later
in the day. These inappropriate energy restrictions have been proven to cause a
reduction in energy needs as well. This is then associated with a reduced resting
metabolic rate, promoting weight regain upon cessation of energy restriction.3 To
avoid this situation, you will want a plan that is nutritionally balanced and closely
tailored to your daily schedule and eating habits. Ensure can be part of that plan
as a meal replacement, as it is a complete, balanced nutrition.
Remember that distributing energy intake throughout the day may help in weight
control.3
