For the venue’s thrilling 33rd season, which begins this November, Circa ‘21 is proud to announce the debut of no less than four productions making their very first appearances in the Quad Cities area, along with the return of two of the theatre’s most popular and requested musicals. Every offering in the 2009-2010 season will be brought to life by top-tier, professional performers and theatre artisans from across the United States, and each one is sure to be enjoyed by both frequent Circa ‘21 guests, and those previously unfamiliar with this beloved Quad Cities venue. Holly Jolly Christmas, a musical comedy running November 11 through December 31. Join Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all of their friends as they celebrate the holidays in a delightful musical treat, the perfect way to get into the spirit of the season. Featuring Broadway-style singing and dancing, stunning costumes, and many of the traditional seasonal favorites you know and love, this festive revue will warm your heart and dazzle your senses. Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, running January 13, 2010, through March 20. From Andrew Lloyd Webber, composer of such stage classics as Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, and Phantom of the Opera, comes a colorful, inspiring musical with exotic costumes and locales, and a tuneful, memorable score. Webber and lyricist Tim Rice have created a soft-rock fantasy from the Biblical story of Joseph and his brethren, and have turned this ancient tale into a rollicking mixture of vaudevillian turns, country and western, calypso, 50’s rock ‘n’ roll, and acid rock. It’s a must-see event for the entire family, and one of the most popular shows that Circa ‘21 has produced in its 32-year history. Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping running March 24 through May 22. Inspired by the books of Janet Martin and Suzann Melson, authors of the best-seller Growing Up Lutheran, this debuting show finds its beloved characters dealing with the world of 1969, preparing for changes – and preparing plenty of food – in the church’s familiar kitchen. As always, you’ll “laugh until your side dish hurts” with the ladies’ hilarious antics, comedic song and dance numbers, and down-to-earth charm. Whodunit... the Musical, running May 26 through July 10. In the show, a wealthy spinster and her Cockney maid rent out a beautiful Connecticut home in the summer of 1931. When they arrive, they discover that all of the hired help has quit, except for a very odd butler who tells them that “something strange” is going on. And before you can say “Whodunit?”, there’s a dead body in the middle of the living room... and then another. This is a tuneful, hilarious romp that’s part mystery, part drawing room farce, and all musical comedy. Squabbles, running July 14 through August 28. This hilarious comedy pits a father-in-law against a mother-in-law in a succession of comic fights, when a young man’s mother and his wife’s father are forced to share a house with their children – and soon discover that they can’t stand one another! A serious of hilarious confrontations occur while the children find a way for their folks to make peace, and the each parent begins to realize that, really, the other isn’t so bad. A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, running September 1 through November 6. A loving tribute to the singer, tracing through her early struggles, breakthroughs, successes, and challenges, the show finds a disc jockey flashing through time from Cline’s dusty roadhouse gigs to the Grand Ole Opry, Las Vegas, and Carnegie Hall. A five-piece band backs up the singer as she croons her hits and shares anecdotes from her life, in this production that features over 20 of Cline’s smash hits, including “She’s Got You,” “Walking After Midnight,” “Sweet Dreams,” “I Fall to Pieces,” and the immortal “Crazy.” Circa ‘21 productions are performed on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:45 p.m. (with doors opening at 5:45 p.m. and a buffet dinner served from 6 – 7 p.m.), Sundays at 5:45 p.m. (3:45 p.m. doors, 4 – 5 p.m. dinner), and Wednesday matinees at 1:30 p.m (11:30 a.m. doors, 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. plated lunch). Performances are also preceded by a 15-minute stage entertainment with The Bootleggers – one of only two dinner theatre performing wait staffs in the entire country.
