Some words from the Executive Committee
In 1977 when Homenetmen of New York was first established, our founding members formed the scouting
program as the foundation to our chapter. A strong
foundation is needed for a strong structure to survive
and succeed. After the scouting program started, our
chapter established several very successful soccer, basketball, and volleyball programs which won numerous
tournaments and league titles. The seeds of these teams
were planted and started from the scouting program.
Over the years members of our Scouting program have
moved on, several of our earlier cub scouts, girl-scouts
and scouts are now coaches, team managers, players,
members, executive board members; not only in our
chapter but in the Armenian community and beyond.
Over the years as our building became stronger the
foundation struggled, it was neglected and in need of a
restoration. It is our great pride and joy that Homenetmen of New York’s Scouting program is being restored.
With our current scouting leaders in place and with the
dedication of parents bringing their kids to our program
there is no stopping on how high of a new structure we
can build.
We take pride that our current scouts will one day care
for Homenetmen of New York’s success the same way
the earlier generation did.
Partzratzir ou Partzratzour…
The Founding of the New York Chapter of Homenetmen
The birth of the New York chapter of Homenetmen began in 1977 with the
leadership of Yeghbair Vartkes Vartanian. On December 12th the chapter
was approved by the New York Armen Garo Gomideh at St. Illuminator's
Armenian Apostolic Church. Present at the time was executive
representative Unger Stepan Dardouni, along with Ungers Hrand
Markarian, Mgouch Boudakian, and Unger Vartkes Hagopian, who was to
be the liaison between the gomideh and the New York Homenetmen
executive. On December 3m 1977, the chap[ter was approved by
Homenetmen's Central Executive of the United States Eastern Region and
Canada.
The first executive consisted of the following members:

This is the first Scout Ceremony at the Elks Club in Queens,
Receiving Homenetmen flag from Yeghbair Garo Mardirosian with
the presents of Yeghbair Garbis Panosian, head of Scouts.
What have we been doing?
This year we have grown in numbers and gaining speed.
We had 3 camping trips.
We setup and packed away tents.
We learned how to use an AX.
We learned several useful knots.
We learned how to use a compass.
We learned how to start a fire.
We learned how to use a knife.
We painted the church fence.
We went to the Alley Pond Environmental Center.
We went on a bike trip by Cross Island Bay.
We went fishing at Oyster Bay.
We went Ice Skating at Flushing Meadow Park.
We have started Saturday meetings 1:30-4:30.
We provided services at the Annual Soccer Tournament.
We rebuilt the Scouts and the Homenetmen Website.
We are having our first scout dinner in 20+ years of
inactivity.

We will be playing a variety of music for
your enjoyment throughout the evening.
