On the way we travel through 8 states: South Carolina, our departure point, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. Of course, there will be time for sightseeing along the way, too. We will enjoy a tour of Kansas City and a stop at the prairie museum in Grand Island, Nebraska, as we loosely follow the famous Mormon Trail and the Oregon Trail! On the 4th day we arrive in Cheyenne. We will spend the night at the lovely Little America Inn. You will enjoy this upscale lodge, nestled on 80 acres of the spectacular Wyoming prairie...with rabbits nesting amongst the shrubbery! FROM THE WEST TO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST: Our route will continue following the Oregon Trail, as we make our way to Kemmerer, Wyoming, and then spend the next night in Sun Valley, Idaho. The scenery we will enjoy as we travel through Wyoming into Idaho will be spectacular. The mountains we travel through will be 10,000 to 14,000 feet high! You will especially enjoy the gondola ride in Sun Valley, views of the backside of the Tetons, and we will even skirt Craters of the Moon National Monument. OREGON & WASHINGTON, THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST: After continuing through Idaho, we enter Oregon and spend our first night in Bend, which will put us in a great position to spend time the next day in one of the most beautiful spots in the world, Crater Lake National Park. Crater Lake inspires awe. Native Americans witnessed it form 7,700 years ago, when a violent eruption triggered the collapse of a towering volcano. Scientists marvel at its purity: fed by rain and snow, it’s the deepest lake in the USA and perhaps the most pristine on earth. All too soon it will be time to continue our journey across Oregon to its coast! We can’t visit this state without spending a little time driving its coastal route from Florence to Newport. We may even find time to take a dune buggy ride at the Oregon Dunes Recreational Area before continuing to Portland...yea, 2 nights in the ‘city of roses’! We’ll meet our Pacific Northwest guide here and he will stay with us for the next 7-8 days as we travel through Astoria, Cape Disappointment, Kelso, Mt. St. Helen’s Observatory, Olympic National Park, Lake Quinault, Kalaloch, Lake Crescent and Port Angeles. From there we travel to Anacortes, taking the ferry to one of the San Juan Islands before continuing into Seattle. We say ‘goodbye’’ to our guide here and then travel through the Cascade Mountain Range to Spokane and on to Couer d’ Alene, Idaho. BACK IN THE WEST: After a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Couer d’ Alene, it is on to Glacier National Park in Montana. We spend the next 2 nights in the park; and, of course, can’t miss the breath-taking views on the world-renowned ‘Going to the Sun’ highway in the park. Our last night in Montana will be spent in Bozeman, MT. You will see why Montana is called ‘Land of the Big Sky’! HEADING HOME: It is time to definitely head East, but there is more to see and do in route, for sure. North Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana are the states we will visit. Not to be missed are the Badlands of North Dakota and House on the Rock in Wisconsin. Our last night will be spent at Belterra in Indiana, arriving back in South Carolina the next evening...25 days...never to be forgotten! Plan to attend our presentation for this “2017 PREMIER TOUR’ when all details have been finalized. Limited to 23 participants, this tour will provide memories you will always remember. ANOTHER WAY TO ESCAPE THE HEAT...DOOR COUNTY, WISCONSIN—OFTEN REFERRED TO AS THE CAPE COD OF THE MIDWEST. WE DID THIS TOUR IN 2014 AND LOVED IT! With five state parks, eleven lighthouses and 300 miles of shoreline, this 70-mile long sliver of land that juts out into Lake Michigan combines pristine scenery with charming galleries and shops...we’ll be accompanied by a local guide as we take it all in! Small wonder Door County was named one of the TOP 10 VACATION DESTINATIONS in North America. While in Door County, we’ll stay in the Sturgeon Bay area and enjoy an ‘all you can eat fish boil’, a tour of Peninsula State Park, tour of Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, tour of the Bjorklunden Boynton Chapel, and a meal at Al Johnson’s restaurant...look for the goats on the roof! In addition to visiting Door County, we will explore other parts of Wisconsin...a special visit to Lake Geneva, where we will stay at the Grand Geneva Resort, and take a ride on a US Mail Boat, complete with remarkable scenery and mail delivery—the mail girl must jump from the boat to the dock and back again...the boat never stops! We will also attend the Dancing Horses Theatre while in Lake Geneva. On the way to Door County, we will tour the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and tour the USS Cobia, the nation’s most completely restored WWII submarine. Another special stop will be Fond du Lac...we’ll visit St. Paul’s Cathedral, enjoy a tour and entertainment at Larsen’s Clydesdales, make a brief stop at the Rippen Good Cookie Outlet and then continue to Milwaukee for a riding tour, a stop at the Pabst Mansion and an ethnic tasting tour, too! On the way home, we will stop at Reiman Publications for a Taste of Home recipe demonstration with samples, and a visit to their Norman Rockwell exhibit. YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE GRAND CANYON NOT JUST ONCE, BUT TWICE! WE WILL SPEND 2 NIGHTS IN THE GRAND CANYON AT THE SOUTH ENTRANCE AND 1 NIGHT AT THE LESS WELL-KNOWN NORTH ENTRANCE! THE SOUTH CANYON VIEWS ARE THE ONES YOU THRILL TO...AS SEEN ON TV AND IN THE MOVIES. THE NORTH CANYON VIEWS ARE EVEN MORE SPECTACULAR. THIS IS THE ONLY TOUR PACKAGE DESIGNED TO OFFER THE ’VIEWS AND VISTAS’ OF BOTH!! MAKING OUR WAY TO THE GRAND CANYON: We will take 5 days to cross the United States, viewing the changing landscape of our vast country. This trek, done in the comfort of our deluxe motor coach with only 23 folks on board, will be far different from that of our ancestors who traveled in wagon trains, on foot and on horseback for months! We will have time to enjoy a tour of Fort Worth, cross the famous Abilene Trail, and head to El Paso! On the 5th night, we will stay at the beautiful Embassy Suites just outside Tucson. You won’t believe the views we will have from this hotel! CANYONLANDS AND NATIONAL PARKS: Before entering the Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim, we will enjoy 1 night in Sedona, AZ, known for its array of red sandstone formations that appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. From there, it is only a short drive to the South Entrance of the Grand Canyon. We will stay in the park for 2 nights….doing a driving tour first, and then you will have free time to make use of the South Rim’s shuttle service. You won’t want to miss the spectacular sunrise and sunset that will showcase the beauty of the canyon! And now it will be time for the absolute best part of the tour...spending the night at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon! We did this last year and all agreed its natural beauty exceeded that of the South Rim. You can judge for yourself! From here, we will continue on to Lake Powell, spending the night at a hotel right on the lake. We will especially enjoy the views of Lake Powell when we take a special dinner cruise this evening. The next day it will be time to continue to Monument Valley...we plan to take a jeep tour of this national park, including a steak dinner cookout that you will not believe! BEFORE LEAVING THE WEST: We can’t be this close and not spend a little time in Colorado! We will spend 2 nights in Durango; and, of course, take the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge train for ‘views and vistas’ of the real West that can’t be seen by car or motor coach. Then, it is on to Colorado Springs. The last Western landmark that we will view will be Pike’s Peak. Over 14,000 feet in elevation, we will have to take a special tram to reach the top. You will definitely understand why Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to write “America the Beautiful” from the top of Pike’s Peak. ON THE WAY HOME: We will travel through Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee and North Carolina with opportunities for more ‘sightseeing’ in route before returning to our homes in South Carolina. This tour is only 19 days long, but it is jam-packed with the never-ending and always changing ‘views and vistas’ of our vast country! Plan to attend our presentation for this “2017 PREMIER TOUR’ when all details have been finalized. Limited to 23 participants, this tour will provide memories you will always remember.
