Library Street Fair a Giant Success
Thanks To Community Support
This year the Friends of Tiverton Libraries
held our most successful Library Street Fair
ever. With huge support from the community,
including over 50 volunteers who supported
setup, cleanup, publicity, making and posting
signs, assisting Skinner Antiques Appraisals,
children's activities, a flea market, and baked
goods, the Friends earned over $4,000 to
support the Teen Summer Reading Program
and other library needs.
The Skinner Antiques Appraisals was a huge
hit. People came from as far away as White
Plains, New York.
We had 15 local vendors and artisans,
including the Tiverton Senior Center, which
participated for a third year. For a second
year, the Essex Teen Council coordinated a
children's crafts table and face painting. It
was also the second year for a membership
information table, which added many new
friends.
Barbara Pelletier donated a second handsome
banner promoting the festival. Local
merchants underwrote the expenses of the
festival and local vendors and artisans
donated merchandise for a raffle. The Ponta
donated space in its newly renovated hall,
which made it possible for people to attend
who could not have been part of the event
elsewhere. Our flea market had eight tables
and ran out of table space for donations. Old
Stone Church recycled unsold items for their
annual festival.
It was a magnificent show of community
support for Tiverton Library Services and
youth summer reading in Tiverton.
Thanks to all who helped in so many ways.
Please continue to support us as we move
toward our goals of library support and a
state-mandated new building to provide even
better service.

Volunteer Spotlight
David Clarke is an exceptional
volunteer and great asset to the
library's teen programs. A retired
engineer and active member of
IEEE, the professional association
for engineers, Dave has run the
Lego Mindstorm Robotics
Workshop for the Teen Summer
Reading Program for over five
years. He is the reason the library
can hold this program as he is not
only its instructor but he obtains
the grant from IEEE which makes the program possible.
With his love of engineering and belief in today's youth,
Dave guides Tiverton's aspiring engineers as they
explore the possibilities of this career path.
WiFi Access At The Library
Wireless access hotspots are now available 24 hours a day at
both of Tiverton's libraries. Signals reach beyond the walls of the
buildings for wireless connection from the parking lots and
outdoors near the library
At Essex library the network is named “Tiverton Library Public
Access”. This is an unsecured network with no content filtering.
At Union Public, the network is named “Union Library Public
Access”. This is an unsecured network with no content filtering.

Union Public Library Association News
For those wishing to attend the
dinner at 6pm, there will be a
$25 per person charge,
collected at the dinner. (No
reservations are necessary.)
Union Public Library Association is a group of about 35 members who own and
maintain the Union Library building and grounds. The membership meets
several times a year to plan fundraising events and for the Annual Meeting.
The meal includes a choice of
entrée, salad, dessert, coffee or
tea, and tip.
UPLA's members are constantly at work whether the Union Library is open or
closed. They provide volunteer staff to aid the public for every hour the library is
open. Trim painting and landscaping projects are planned or underway, too.
Following the dinner, there will
be a presentation by Howard
Boksenbaum of OLIS.
Union's Book Discussion Group shares thoughts on books monthly. They meet
the third Thursday of each month at 1:30 pm at Union Library in the historic
Tiverton Four Corners district.
Call (401) 816-0411 in the
evenings, for more information.
Visit cozy, historic Union Library when you have a chance. You'll be glad you
did.
Two important traditional fundraisers are the annual Paperback Book Sale in
July and the two day Book & White Elephant Sale the last weekend of August.
