Devoted Dolls Burn Center Ride
AZ Rider
The Devoted Dolls hosted their 4th annual Burn
Center Ride on Saturday October 11, 2014. The ride
portion of the event, sponsored by Grease Slinger
Cycles of Mesa, staged at Nicantoni’s Pizza on Warner Rd in Gilbert. About 40 riders participated this
year, led by Cliff Noble of Grease Slinger Cycles.
The route, which was just under 60 miles, included
a stop at South Mountain for a spectacular view of
the valley, and refreshments.
The ride ended and the party began at Fuego Bar
& Grill in Tolleson. There were vendors and several
contests; plus music by The Blissins, Slik Fifty, and
DJ Robb Gee.
The bike show had about 25 bikes. There were
5 participants in the car show. The winners of People’s Choice Bike and People’s Choice Car each
won a custom created trophy by Phoenix Kustoms.
The Pinup Contest went very well. There were
20 contestants and 2 rounds of competition which
included a Q&A round and a Talent or Pose-Off
Round. The winner was KitKat Marie and she is the
2015 Miss RedHot.
This day raised just under $1800 ~ plus 5 large
moving boxes full of toys were collected; all to benefit AZ Burn Center.
We were asked to share this message, “The Devoted Dolls would love to thank Grease Slinger Cycles, Nicantoni’s Pizza, Fuego Bar and Grill, Steady
Clothing, Cats Pajamas Magazine, Squid Ink Sushi, Phoenix Kustoms, and Lady Luck Tattoo Gallery for sponsoring this year’s event! We would also
like to thank all of our Pinup contestants, our riders,
Tolleson Fire Department, our vendors, the bands,
and everyone who attended and helped us raise funds
for such a worthy cause.
“Each year we strive to make our event more
successful so we can raise as much as possible for
the AZ Burn Center. We also have 2 toy drives the
weeks before each event to collect donations of new
toys, puzzles, games, coloring books, art supplies,
and more ~ to be given to the young patients at the
AZ Burn Center who are undergoing treatment.”
Devoted Dolls is a group of women who want
to better their community through fundraising for
charities and helping those in need. The Devoted
Dolls are hosting a Chili Cook Off Fundraiser for
the AZ Burn Center on March 14th at Arrowhead
Harley. There will be Vendors, Chili, Live Music,
and Raffles. All proceeds will benefit the AZ Burn
Center.

events online at www.Facebook.com/DevotedDolls

228,305 – a mere 0.5% increase over 2012. The quad
market benefited from a strong December to push the
annual tally into the black, with a 1,799 unit increase
YOY for the month. Notably, the MIC does not track
sales for UTV and side-by-side units, which have reportedly eclipsed ATV sales in recent years.
NCOM NEWS BYTES Compiled and Edited by Bill

STATES RANKED BY MOTORCYCLE
OWNERSHIP
With 8,410,255 motorcycles registered to
311,800,000 U.S. citizens, according to the most recent
DOT and Census data that means that out of every 37
Americans you meet, one of them probably owns a motorcycle. But in some states your odds are better than
others, and when you compare statewide motorcycle
registrations with population figures, you might be surprised where some states stand in the rankings.
For example, Iowa comes in third with 18 people for
every motorcycle, more than double the national average. In 2011 the state had 173,929 motorcycles registered, and a population of just over three million.
The second highest ratio of bike ownership is in New
Hampshire, whose 1.3 million population shares 79,266
motorcycles, equaling 17 people per motorcycle.
First on the list is South Dakota with 12 people for
each motorcycle, over three times the national average.
In 2011 the state had 69,284 motorcycles registered,
representing just 0.82% of all motorcycles in America,
but its sparse population of 816,598 gives it the highest
concentration of motorcycling in the country.
Rounding out the Top Ten are; Wisconsin (4th with
18 people per bike); Wyoming (5th/19); North Dakota
(6th/21); Vermont (7th/21); Montana (8th/21); Minnesota
(9th/22) and Alaska (10th/23).
The Ten Lowest ranked states are; South Carolina
(40th/43 people per bike); Kentucky (41st/44); Hawaii
(42nd/45); California (43rd/47); Utah (44th/47); Maryland
(45th/48); Georgia (46th/49); New York (47th/56); Texas
(48th/58); Louisiana (49th/67, almost half the U.S. aver-
MOTORCYCLE SALES INCREASE
The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) has reported that annual motorcycle sales grew 1.4% in 2013.
The 465,783 unit total represents a 6,485 increase from
2012.
The dual-purpose and off-road segments enjoyed
the greatest percentage annual growth, with scooter
sales declining in 2013.
On-Highway motorcycles sales tallied 324,691 for
the year, a 2% increase from 2012. The On-Highway
segment is by far the largest tracked by the MIC, and it
includes all street-legal bikes excepting dual-sports and
scooters. It recorded a 6,485 unit year-over-year (YOY)
increase.
The smallest volume segment, Dual, reported the
largest YOY percentage increase at 7.8%. The Dual category includes small street-legal dual-sports as well as
popular Adventure bikes. The yearly total for this market
was 32,979 for a 2,387 unit increase in 2013.
Off-Highway motorcycle sales grew 5.7% for the
year. The annual total of 73,371 represents a 3,976 unit
boost from last year. The near 4000-unit gain comes despite a slow finish in 2013, recording a YOY decrease of
1,025 units in December.
Scooter sales, which are traditionally more volatile
than bike sales, struggled to match 2012 totals. The annual tally of 34,742 was 6,363 units short of the 2012
total – a 15.5% decline.
ATV sales for 2013 posted a nearly identical tally of
5
age); and lastly Mississippi (50th/106, nearly a third the
norm).
It’s interesting to note that due to large populations,
some of the states with the largest numbers of motorcycles finished low on the rider density list; California is
number one in motorcycles owned with 801,803, representing 9.5% of all motorcycles in the U.S., but with
a population of over 37 million it comes in a lackluster
43rd place! Likewise, New York with 345,816 motorcycles, and Texas with 438,551, came in near the bottom
of the rankings.
It is also worth noting that only one of the Top Ten
motorcycling states has a helmet law, while 6 of the 10
least bike-friendly states requires riders to wear them.
Editor’s note: According to the report, Arizona is
ranked #29, with 178,890 bikes per 6,413,158 population, for an average of 36 people per bike.
MISSOURI PUSHES TO CHANGE BAN ON SUNDAY
MOTORCYCLE SALES
Like many states, it is against the law in Missouri
for dealers to sell cars, trucks or motorcycles on Sunday. Due to archaic “Blue Laws” influenced by religion
during the Colonial Period, sales are prohibited on the
Sabbath, but there is a trend brewing and some states
are removing this outdated ban.
The latest state to allow Sunday motorcycle sales
was Indiana last July, when Hoosiers joined Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Maryland in removing
their Sunday sales ban.
Now Missouri’s Blue Law is being challenged, and
lawmakers are proposing three bills that would allow for
motorcycles to be sold in Platte and Jackson Counties
on Sundays. The reason is because some Kansas City
metro dealers feel it is not fair that they can’t sell on
Sundays when just across the border in the neighboring
state of Kansas, dealers can.
Other states that currently prohibit the Sunday

When members of the Armed Forces of the United States finish at least one year
of their tour of deployment they need to enroll in the Veterans Administration
(VA) program to obtain any VA Health Benefits they may be entitled to receive.
Service members need to enroll PROMPTLY and do it NOW by
following these steps:
•
Obtain a copy of your service medical records prior to discharge.
Do not take any shortcuts when separating and do this immediately. Any idea
of hurrying to get home may cost you time and money should you require VA
Healthcare at any time in the future.
•
A veteran has two years, after separation, to apply for medical conditions
that are a result of their service in the military. After two years the process becomes more difficult.
•
If you require medical assistance from the VA after separation/discharge, bring with you a copy of your medical records, a copy of your DD214, and two forms of picture identification.
•
Any injury or illness incurred while serving on active duty as a regular,
reservist, or Federalized member of the National Guard needs to be noted in your
medical records.
•
Enroll in the VA IMMEDIATELY. Do Not Procrastinate!! Know
your rights and your responsibilities. If you are not sure, ASK-ASK-ASK-ASKASK!!! Ensure that your transition is smooth. Know what you need to do, and
DO IT!
•
Join a veterans service organization - American Legion, DAV, Rolling
Thunder®, VFW, AMVETS, Marine Corps League, Alliance of Marine Corps
Veterans, etc.
IT’S YOUR DUTY TO DO SO!

Three women go to
Mexico…
to celebrate their college graduation. They get drunk and wake
up in jail only to discover that they
are to be executed in the morning,
though none of them can remember
what they did the night before.
The first one, a redhead, is
strapped in the electric chair and
is asked if she has any last words.
She says: ‘I just graduated from
Trinity Bible College and believe in
the almighty power of God to intervene on the behalf of the innocent.’
They throw the switch and nothing
happens. They all immediately fall
to the floor on their knees, beg for
forgiveness, and release her.
The second one, a brunette,
is strapped in and gives her last
words. ‘I just graduated from the
University of Illinois School of Law
and I believe in the power of Justice
to intervene on the behalf of the innocent.’ They throw the switch and
again nothing happens. Again they
all immediately fall to their knees,
beg for forgiveness, and release
her.
The last one, a blonde, (you
knew she would be) is strapped in
and says: ‘Well I’m from Ohio and
just graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Electrical
Engineering and I’ll tell ya right now
y’all ain’t gonna electrocute nobody
if you don’t plug this thing in.’

Memories of the Late Don Patton
9
July 17, 1925 ~ December 13, 2014
On December 13th, the Mountain Motorcycle
Association of Arizona’s oldest and life member
Don Patton passed away. One could write a book
about this man. Many of our newest members didn’t
know him, mostly because he was 89 when passing
and hadn’t been on a bike in some time. Then again,
those of us who knew him will never forget him.
You cannot write anything briefly about Don
because he was unique and very interesting. Where
can I start???
He joined the Navy during WW II at age 17 and
was one of the first frogmen doing underwater demolition during the Iwo Jima and Okinawa invasions;
earning two Bronze Stars. He wouldn’t talk about it
much ~ only to say he woke up on a hospital ship.
After the Service, he did potash mining in Carlsbad, New Mexico where he met our member Ed
Pearman’s father. Don had a pilot’s license and for
a bottle of White Lightening [so the story goes] he
flew Ed’s father back to a small town in West Virginia to visit Ed’s mother and sister. That’s a longer
shortened story in itself.
Don then became a hard hat diver and
was one of the best underwater welders in the
country. According to what he related to me,
there were about eight of them.
Don ended up in the Petrified Forest and became
an expert on Petrified Wood, knew how to find the
buried wood, slice it, polish it, etc. On one ride we
took through the Petrified Wood Forest he led the
way and stopped at numerous scenic locations and
spoke about what we were observing. At one stop
there were several out-of-state tourists and when Don
stopped talking they gave him grateful applause. His
face lit up with a big shit-eat’n grin.
We had a big Bar-B-Q Rally at his and wife Edna
Mae’s house which included a dance band. He had
covered his empty large swimming pool with 2x6
boards, making the entire area accessible for eating and dancing. We called this ride the “Deadwood
Round Up” as we could scour his property [legally]
for Petrified Wood.
Don also had a habit of “showing up” unexpectedly when we went somewhere on a ride like to Page
or to Cottonwood, plus other places.
He had a large pond on his property that had
ducks and geese. What did he decide to do??? He
built [by himself] a walkable bridge that crossed
over the pond. Exactly how he did it I don’t know.
But that was another aspect of Don.
He was a rascal of sorts, with a sense of humor.
For his private plane he graded his back 40 for a
landing strip and posted a sign at the entrance to the
property that said “Petrified Forest Airport”. I could
go on and on but I hope by now you get the picture.
This man had quite a life. There’s lots more to tell
and we will ~ when reminiscing... especially if the
Winners Circle’s Gerald Briggs is around.
Ed Pearman, Gerald Briggs, and I attended his
Memorial Service at the Holbrook Cemetery. The
American Legion did an Honor Guard Service,
followed by food and a Memorial Service at Holbrook’s Elks Lodge. There were about 10 bikes at
both, in spite of the winter weather. And so, sadly,
another one of the “Greatest Generation” has left us.

Evapeology Vapor Lounge Grand Opening
The newest Evapeology Vapor Lounge is located in Mesa at 4210 East Baseline. The phone number is 480-892-8273. I must say that this is the first
time I’ve ever walked into a smoking establishment
and thought it smelled like a candy store. {:o) But to
clarify, these are definitely ‘18 & Older’ establishments.
The new Mesa store is the largest of the Evapeology Lounges. It is open, airy, with high ceilings
& a relaxed atmosphere. In addition to the bar and
a sitting area, the lounge offers activities like fooseball and various arcade games. There is also a workbench set up with tools for the customizing of vapor
pens… to adjust airflow and other features.
When we were there it had been open just 30
days, but it’s already being well received. The official Grand Opening of the Mesa lounge, entitled
“Evapeology Pre-Valentines Party with 93.3 and
Pure Romance!” was held on Friday February 13.
Whether you prefer to call it a ‘Pre-Valentine Day’ or
an ‘Anti-Cupid’ party ~ all were welcome. Kimmer
and Kenny’s ‘Good Eats on the Go’ catering truck
was on location serving BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders &
Chili. Activities included a Mario Kart Competition;
CD, movie ticket, and concert giveaways; and a Biggest Cloud Contest.....
Vaping is somewhat of a phenomenon… in addition to the expected smokers with a desire to quit
the paper cancer sticks, we’ve met vaping fans who

have never smoked a cigarette in their lives. More
than simply a tool to quit traditional smoking, there
is now ‘hobbyist’ and ‘competitive’ vaping.
Each Evapeology Lounge has a 16’ ruler on the
wall…. to measure ‘clouds’. We’re told that competitors have blown as large as 14’ clouds, under the
right conditions.
In addition to offering basic products that you
can find from most any vaping supplier; they also
carry an exclusive ‘Evapeology’ branded line of accessories, batteries, atomizers, cases, & juices. With
65 flavors, there is bound to be one there for you.
Brands & accessories available include Ar
Mods, Asmodus, Aspire, Atty’s, Authentic Mods,
Box Mods, Drip Tips, E Cig, Ego, Evod Batteries,
Innokin, Juices, Kanger, Limitless, Mods, MVP, Nitecore chargers, Pioneer 4 You, RBA, RjMods, Sigelei, Vape Pen, Vaporizers, Vape, and Vaping.
For those who prefer to follow the suggestions
of vaping guru RiP Trippers, there is a display case
dedicated to his trends.
As this is the newest store, they are still working
on some areas and have some excellent ideas coming
up to make best use of their space. One very cool
idea is to create an outdoor party zone in the back
parking lot ~ to bring in bands, food trucks, etc.
One of the cool programs that Evapeology is
part of is called ‘Vape For A Cause’, organized by
the e-liquids company BRV ~ Bottles Ready to Vape.

We learned from their website that the primary focus
of the project is to help Veterans conquer tobacco
habits by providing this healthier alternative, at no
cost to them. Numerous Veterans have already been
served by this program and, to date, every single one
has made the transition successfully.
Each store hosts contests and weekly specials,
so watch them via their Facebook pages or call in
to see what’s happening. Each lounge hosts monthly

Keep watch on the Evapeology Facebook pages, as
they are getting ready to do FREE ticket giveaways
to 93.3 ALT-AZ’s FestivALTAZ on April 10 AND
98 KUPD’s UFest on April 11; both held at Quail

~ now ~ as soon as you finish reading this] start listening to these stations to find out which Evapeology locations their vans will be stopping at, so you’ll
know where & when to score tickets.
In addition to the Evapeology storefronts, they
also host booths at local events including the monthly ‘Motorcycles on Main Bike Night’ in Mesa and
the ‘Party on the Patio’ gatherings at Chester’s Harley-Davidson in Mesa.

you quite cigarettes? Read this article http://azridersouthwest.com/Archive/Evapeology_0714.pdf and
then contact the staff at Evapeology. They can assist
you with answers to questions, product suggestions,

Halloween at The Cabin
Friends of The Cabin Bar & Grill in Overgaard
were shown a ghoulishly good time at the 8th annual Halloween Party, held on Friday October 31st,
2014. This is always the last party before closing for
the winter, so it’s a big time. PLUS owners Steve &
Raynita got married, in costume on Halloween, 17
years ago. So they like to get into the spirit!
Raynita shared that they had a great turnout.
Music was provided by the Plum Krazy Band, based
out of Payson. Some patrons really get into the costume part of the party. There’s a contest with cash
prizes for Best Male and Best Female costumes. And
as Raynita posted on their FB page, they also offered
insane drink specials… So there’s less to put away
into the storage room {:o)
In case you over-indulged… NO problem. You
could eat, drink and be SCAREY without having
to DRIVE anywhere... The Cabin ALWAYS offers
FREE dry camping on the property. So, you can just
walk / stumble / crawl back to your camp site {:o)
The Cabin is getting ready to reopen for the Season, in April. The date is yet to be announced. But
you can be sure there’ll be a bevy of beautiful bartenders and talented music. You can play corn hole,
horseshoes, and pool. There’s always free dry camping on the property, so plan yourself some weekend
getaways to the cool pines to escape the summer
heat of the flatlands. Keep an eye on their FB page
for announcements of who’s playing when and
various specials.
Saturday afternoons mean Rib Fest on the Patio.
It’s the only day they serve BBQ ribs, and they have
live music of all kinds ~ usually from 3p-7pm.
The 3rd annual Biker Bash and Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser will be the weekend of June
19-21. Flyers & more details will follow, but for
now ~ be sure & mark it on your calendars.
The Cabin Bar & Grill is located on Hwy 260
in Overgaard, AZ ~ in the tall pines of the White
Mountains. You can follow them on Facebook at
https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cabin-BarGrill-Overgaard-AZ/56295558180
The Cabin is a great stop as you are exploring
AZ’s beautiful White Mountains during the summer
riding season. We love to stop by whenever we get
into the area. Whether you’re just rolling through
or pitching camp for the weekend, you’ll find good
people and good times. Enjoy!

Bones For Blankets
The Sacred Bones Society MC hosted the Bones
For Blankets fundraiser on Saturday November 1,
2014 for the VA Homeless Vets Project. It took place
from noon ‘til 4p at Shooters Steakhouse & Saloon
in Tucson. Turnout was good.
In addition to music and vendors, there was a
strong man competition for trophies. This included
a Keg Toss and a Cinder Block Hold. The winner of
that lasted about 12 minutes.
100% of proceeds go to the VA’s Homeless Vets
Project. Along with a cashier’s check for $1650 and
a box of toiletries, over 1700 blankets, plus underwear, socks, knit beanies, scarves, gloves, and coats
were delivered. All items went directly to US Veterans who were homeless or in need this past winter.
The members of Sacred Bones Society MC
would like to thank all who came out to support
Bones for Blankets. “We cannot express the joy
of seeing our brethren come out to help with this
cause. Over 20 clubs/associations and numerous in-
dependents gave of their time and money to fill a
need and we thank you. Special thanks also go out
to ‘Designs by Luise’ and ‘Indian of Tucson’.”
Thank you to Face, AZ’s Sergeant at Arms for
Sacred Bones Society MC, for sending details and
photos for this report. Learn more about the Sacred Bones Society MC by visiting their website at

Classic Motorcycle Show, Sale, & Swap
For the past 20 years, the Classic Motorcycle
Show, Sale, & Swap has taken place on the first
Sunday of the New Year. Barney Watson and Roger
Meinershagen have been the driving force behind
this event since the beginning.
On January 4th, the Steel Horse Saloon, located
at 1818 W. Bell Rd, Phoenix, was once again host to
this gathering of hobbyists with a passion for classic
British & European motorcycles. There is no charge
to come in & look around, to show or sell your bike,
or to set up in the swap meet. But there are guidelines.
continues from page 5
The event is directed toward those bikes which
are 35 years or older, as this is the Antique Motorcycle Club of America (AMCA) guideline. Originally,
the show was strictly for the British & European machines only. But they have recently established an
‘All Others’ area to accommodate anyone else who
wants to participate. The vendor booths are ONLY
for motorcycle-specific goods… no leather, sunglasses, apparel, earrings, edibles, etc.
According to Barney, this year’s event, “… had
22 Brit/Euro Vendors and ‘All Others’ about 25. The
fellow in the green/brown jacket [bottom row, center
17
photo] is Randy Baxter; a friend who comes here
every year from Iowa. He is one of the largest sellers
of British iron in the US.”
Unlike other shows, this one has no judges or
trophies. The bikes are on display to share a bit of
history and to inspire people to restore & maintain
these early machines so that they are around for future generations to appreciate.
Thank you Barney for sharing details and photos of the day with our readers.

NY LAWMAKER SAYS BIKES SHOULDN’T
BE ALLOWED IN HIS DISTRICT
Legislator Thomas F. Barraga (R-11th District) says
people should not ride bikes at all in his district because
“Suffolk County is a suburban automobile community
-- drivers expect to see other drivers on the road, not
bicyclists and motorcyclists.”
The anti-motorcycle/bicycle lawmaker from West
Islip, New York made those remarks in response to a
high school senior who wrote to him as a part of a government class assignment.
On January 29, the 17-year old, Matthew Cutrone,
wrote to Barraga requesting “some sort of bike lane or
maybe even warning signs in certain areas of the county” after his mother was hit by the driver of a van that
illegally turned left in front of her.
Stating that he believes that “no one who lives in our
hamlet or for that matter Suffolk County should ever ride
a bicycle or motorcycle,” Barraga’s callous response lit
up social media and prompted a ton of angry responses,
though the legislator said he’s standing by his remarks.
WASHINGTON STATE RIDERS LOBBY TO TURN
LEFT ON RED
Motorcyclists in Washington could turn left at an intersection if the traffic light doesn’t give them the green
arrow after a complete cycle under a bill that received
strong support from the Senate in Olympia.
SB 5141 would change state traffic laws to account
for a problem some motorcyclists have at intersections
controlled by sensors that fail to recognize them. They

don’t register on the sensor, and the left-turn arrow never turns green, said Senator Jim Hargrove, a Hoquiam
Democrat who rides a motorcycle and said he’s experienced the problem first-hand.
Under the proposed legislation, a motorcyclist would
have to wait through a complete cycle of lights changing for all directions before making a left-turn when clear.
The bill passed on a 46-2 vote. The same bill passed the
Senate last session but didn’t receive a final vote in the
House.
dorsement requirements. “These unendorsed riders are
maybe 10 or 20 percent of the population, but they’re
over 40 percent of the fatalities since 1989. It’s incredible
that nothing has happened.”
Officials have known about the endorsement issue
for years, and the Secretary of State and Office of Highway Safety Planning have both pushed educational programs to raise awareness. But education alone is not
working, prompting motorcycle safety advocates to push
for legislative action.
MICHIGAN MOTORCYCLE SAFETY BILL WOULD
PREVENT REPEAT OFFENDERS
Michigan lawmakers are looking to close an “apparent loophole” that allows motorcycle operators to obtain
a temporary permit each riding season without ever completing a safety course or skills test required for full endorsement.
Temporary Instruction Permits, intended for new or
returning riders, are valid for 180 days and require operators to travel alongside an endorsed adult. But enforcement is difficult, and TIP holders are significantly
over-represented in traffic accidents each year; 52% of
riders who crashed were not properly endorsed.
Current law allows operators to obtain a temporary
permit every season. But House Bill 4781, introduced
by state Rep. Bradford Jacobsen (R-Oxford) and 15
co-sponsors, would limit motorcycle operators to two
TIPs over the course of a 10 year period. “That’s certainly adequate time to ride with a friend, take an instruction
course and get the experience necessary to drive a motorcycle,” Jacobsen said in testimony before the House
Transportation Committee, which has not voted on the
bill.
“It’s a no brainer really,” said Vince Consiglio, president of ABATE Michigan, which led efforts to repeal the
mandatory helmet law but also supports stronger en-
ABATE OF INDIANA SEEKS TO ALLOW OFF-ROAD
VEHICLES ON COUNTY ROADWAYS
Indiana state law bans driving off-road vehicles on
public streets, but ABATE of Indiana, a motorcycle advocacy group, is asking Tippecanoe County commissioners to exercise a clause that allows county officials to allow all-terrain vehicles, gators and various other off-road
machines, including snowmobiles, to use county roads
in unincorporated areas.
“We’re just requesting that they at least evaluate
this, look at what other communities have done with
this -- what other counties have done with this” said Jay
Jackson, executive director of American Bikers Aimed
Toward Education. “We’re not aware of any significant
ramifications as a result, so we don’t see a downside to
it.”
Jackson told commissioners that 45 Indiana counties allow off-road vehicles on public roads. The vehicles
still must comply with state laws governing off-road vehicles. State law requires the rider or driver be 16 years
old and licensed, and also requires that the vehicle be
registered, much like a boat.

Skin & Steel
On January 17, American Legion Post 2 in Tempe presented the 5th annual Skin & Steel Tattoo &
Motorcycle Show. Skin & Steel AZ is a 501c19
charity event, with all proceeds going to support
American Legion Rider Post 2 programs.
As impressive as last year was, this year seemed
even busier. Attendance is difficult to assess on this
event, because there is no charge to attend or other means of taking a headcount. But the place was
PACKED.
Tattoo artists participating this year were featured artist WolfSkin Ink Studio [1752 W Bell Rd,
Phx], and Big Mike 33 out of Riverside, CA. The
third tattoo shop was a no-show, so it was just the
two of them.
There were 30 vendors; which [according to organizer Eagle] is normal for each year. They were
offering a variety of goods and services. Our sponsors ABATE, Chester’s Harley-Davidson, HogWear
| Purple Slice, and Law Tigers were represented.
Plus, you could shop for apparel, insurance, jewelry, food stuffs, legal services, & more. There was
a registration booth for the National Armed Forces
Freedom Ride; taking place May 16. This event is
organized by our friend Skeeter.
Music for the day included a good mix of clas-
sic rock. Performers were Whiskey Dogz, based out
of Scottsdale; with Skarlett Fever as their opening
band.
Both the bike and tattoo contests allow you to
compete in more than one class. This is a fundraiser
after all. So if you’ve got tat[s] that qualify for more
than one category of competition OR an awesome
looking bike that could win Best Paint and Best
Cruiser, then sign up & go for it.

There was a drawing for an AR15 Anderson No
Lube Rifle, donated by MadDog of Post 2. The winner was Mike G. We didn’t catch the name of the
50/50 winner, but whoever it was collected $141... a
nice addition to their day {:o)
$2,700 was collected for ALR Post 2 charities;
showing this event’s continuing growth over the
years. Thank you to all who participated!
Thanks go out to sponsor Chester’s Harley-Davidson of Mesa and to Budweiser for donating the
banners & posters. Additional sponsors Motorcycle
House and Viking Bags out of California donated
merchandise for the raffle.
Our thanks to organizer Eagle for her help in
