7 day programme in Denmark and Sweden
7 day programme in Denmark and Sweden 1 Hadler DMC Copenhagen – Oslo - Stockholm General Information Why DENMARK? Denmark is the oldest Kingdom in the world, and thanks to the Gulf Stream waters we enjoy a moderate climate with no extreme temperatures and a gradual transition from one season to the next. This means that even though the temperature drops in the winter there is rarely snow and when it does fall it does not last for more than one or two days. Copenhagen's international airport is Scandinavia's busiest and continuously expanding: it is served by a large number of major international airlines and is the hub for Scandinavian Airlines' international activities. With the numerous islands that compose Denmark it has a longer coastline than California! In addition to Denmark itself the kingdom also includes the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Let 5,000,000 Danes define Denmark’s national word "hygge" or cosines and nowhere more so than in Copenhagen. Why COPENHAGEN? Copenhagen has been the capital of Denmark for almost 600 years. The soldier-bishop, Absalon - the site chosen being favorable both in terms of trade and defense, founded the city. Located at the entrance to the Baltic, it is the world's gateway to Scandinavia and Scandinavia's door to Europe. Copenhagen is one of the leading design capitals of Europe as well as the gastronomic centre of Scandinavia with no less than 12 restaurants with Michelin stars and Voted as one of the trendiest capitals in Europe. Why organize an event here? Lots of history - beautiful sights - friendly inhabitants - atmosphere and authenticity - the super selection of tour possibilities - great social events - superb food - Tivoli Gardens - real Danish pastry - lots of fun to be had - cool Danish beer - it is green and clean - a city on the human scale - a city where you feel comfortable and at home - because it is, just as the song describes it, Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen! Why SWEDEN? From people watching at a pavement café in Stockholm to a dog sledge adventure in the Arctic, Sweden offers a wide range of travel experiences. Sweden is the home of Abba, the Nobel Prize, Ikea and modern gastronomy chefs such as Mathias Dahlgren. The mix of contemporary innovation & design versus history, culture and traditions makes Sweden a pond of exciting experiences. Welcome to a modern meeting destination Why STOCKHOLM? Stockholm City is not famous only for its beauty, but also for its buildings, parks and water. While visiting Stockholm in the middle of summer is always the best option, but you may not ignore it in the winters, because it has its own fascination and attraction. The word Stockholm is a combination of two words; stock (which means log or fortification) and holm (which means islet). Basically, this naming is due to the strategic location of Stockholm at the mouth of Lake Mälaren, making it a collection of islands situated on the lake. The history of Stockholm goes back to the 13th century, when the iron trade began from the mines of Bergslagen (a distinct mining district in the north of the Lake Mälaren) to the other parts of the region. Anyway, at that time the name of Stockholm was mentioned for the first time in writing dates. The core of Stockholm is the current Old Town (Gamla Stan) that is located on the central island next to Helgeandsholmen (a small island in central Stockholm). This part of the city was built between 1300 and 1500 and is now officially called The Town between the Bridges. Gamla Stan is known for its historical buildings and has become a tourist attraction since 1980s where you can see the medieval, Renaissance architecture and also other later additions that have been valued by later generations. In fact, Stockholm is a cosmopolitan city where you can see all kinds of nationalities with different backgrounds and various cultures. Stockholm is a must-see destination whether you come from other cities of Sweden or even other countries in the world. Just, don´t miss out an opportunity to visit this beautiful city either in summer or winter! 2 Hadler DMC Copenhagen – Oslo - Stockholm That’s why Day 1 – Copenhagen Welcome to Copenhagen! Restaurant Gertruds Kaelder & Valdemars Vinbar (Not included) A great deal of exciting things have seen the light of day at this old Monastery turned restaurant, with 700 years of history dating back to 1397, where it was a destination for business people and travelers. From this century the National Museum and Sankt Gertruds have together carried out several excavations of the monastery. In 1972 a restoration of the old buildings was begun, and in 1975 St. Gertruds Monastery opened as a restaurant. During the last phase of the restoration several British cannonballs from bombardment in 1807 were found. When the restaurant opened, a couple of these were dutifully handed over to the British marine attachι, who was polity asked not to use them again. The restaurant has a unique atmosphere and is only lit up by candles, and even though the great food served here is modern, a meal at Sank Gertruds Kloster will make your mind wonder about the old days. In the begining of 2013 the restaurant changed its name from Sankt Getruds Kloster to Gertruds Kaelder & Valdemars Winebar. The Winebar will be able to take outdoor services at a newly renovated square just in front of the restaurant. 6 Hadler DMC Copenhagen – Oslo - Stockholm Day 3 – Copenhagen Today you will explore another side of Danish history by getting up close with Carlsberg Brewery. The Brewery Carlsberg tour Visit the old brewery Carlsberg where the newly renovated Visitors Center invites to a live exhibition of beer culture and classic brewing skills. At the Visitors Center you will take a self-guided tour around the visitor center where you will have time to experience how the beer is brewed, the old granary, the stable, the small garden with some sculptures and the old brewer’s villa. The visit ends with beer tasting and lunch in Bar Jacobsen. In the afternoon, you will have some free time to enjoy the many shopping opportunities in the pedestrian, shopping street, Strøget, which also includes two department stores Illum and Magasin, before going to Tivoli Garden. Tivoli Garden A must when you are visiting Copenhagen. The park that have been around since 1843, is today one of the most attractions in the world. More than 4 million guests every year visit Tivoli. The mixture of beautiful sights, wonderful music, fine food and kids having a good time with the rides – that’s Tivoli. Here is a blend of all, and yet a fantastic venue for parties, meetings and all where people are to be together celebrating or just having fun. Inside the park, there are many options for a very good dinner restaurant. We recommend restaurant NIMB Terrasse. Tivoli is seasonal open from mid-April to mid-September. 7 Hadler DMC Copenhagen – Oslo - Stockholm Restaurant NIMB Terrasse (Not included) Nimb Terrasse, in the former Divan 2, located inside The Tivoli Gardens is a french-inspired bistro. The menu is bistrostyle and the décor follows the style at Nimb with its simple Scandinavian flair and detailed English and French style. Still today it is an important Swedish logistical center i.e. IKEA central warehouse is located here. Gränna is a small town a little further up than Jönköping and is also worth a stop. Linköping, located further up than Gränna, is known for its university and its high-technology industry. The city plans to become a carbon neutral community by 2025. For the dinner we will urge you to go to Gute Lounge & Grill Dinner at Gute Lounge & Grill (Not included) The dream of a restaurant in Stockholm with focus on Gotland was long gone before these chefs decided to create Gute Lounge & Grill. In the heart of the big city vibe the feeling of an outside restaurant in Visby has given the venue a massive media attention and still after one year this restaurant keeps is personal, with a Gotland styled contemporary menu and genuine local producers. The venue is suitable for very much Swedish inspired evening. The Stockholm archipelago is a cluster of some 30,000 islands, skerries and rocks spreading 80 km east from the city into the Baltic Sea. You arrive in Vaxholm harbor after the guided trip. Lunch will be at Hotel Vaxholm followed by a guided tour at The Vaxholm Fortress. It describes Swedish coastal defense during 500 years, with special attention given to the defense of the Stockholm archipelago. The construction of this huge fortification on the island of Vaxholm (“Guardian Island”) started in 1544 on direct order from King Gustav Vasa to serve as an important outpost in the archipelago. The fortress was attacked twice, by the Danish in 1612 and by the Russians in 1719, and has also served as a prison. The new fortress museum was opened in 2003 and the exhibitions include environments, models, vaults, soldiers life, prison and more. 13 Hadler DMC Copenhagen – Oslo - Stockholm After the tour around Vaxholm Fortress a luxury sedan will transport you to Drottningholm and Skeppsholmen.
