Cimino’s Little Italy
MEET
the
Family
It all started in 1964 when Francis Salamone
showed Antonio Cimino a photograph of a
beautiful young woman, her sister, Dominica,
who was living at the time in Sicily. He instantly
fell in love, and even though it was a time when
most marriages were still arranged, he flew to
Sicily and it was then the families met for the
first time. Dominica fell in love at once as well
and on November 6th, 1966 they were married.
Soon after the newlyweds traveled to England,
where they gave birth to four boys: Nicolo,
Salvatore, Vincenzo and Peter. In 1973 they
moved to America, and Rockford, IL. became
their new home.
At the time, Tony worked at Rockford Factory
Gunnite. The Cimino boys would frequently
bring pizzas and other Italian dishes to work
and it wasn’t long before the other workers
caught wind of how great their food was.
They asked if he could start bringing in food
for them. Before long Mimi and her sister-in-
laws were catering lunch to the workers and
word traveled fast around the city.
Vince opened the first Cimino’s Pizza in
1975, the ristorante was located in Loves
Park and it was the first of many to come.
Frank Cimino moved to Pecatonica and Tony
to Freeport. It was in 1977 that the first
Cimino’s in Freeport opened. During this time
there, Tony taught his boys was he believed to
be the most important things about running
a restaurant, perfecting the product and the
service. Lessons that his sons say they will
never forget to this day. In the tragic year
of 1985 Tony passed away. Nick, Sam, Vince
and Peter promised to keep their father’s
spirit alive. So to this day, every single
thing brought to your table, from pizzas
to beverages is of the highest quality and
prepared with the unconditional care and
respect of having you as our customer.
