WORK
READINESS
Preparing Youth for the Workplace
To succeed in the world of work, young people need to equip themselves with both job-specific and soft
skills. Whilst technical skills are essential in any career, soft skills which characterise one’s approach to
people, work and life may ultimately be more important in determining one’s success. With rapid changes in
the job market, it has become ever more important for people to possess soft and transferable skills that can
be applied across different professions and careers. JA HK’s work readiness programs enable young people
to understand the importance of developing their soft skills. They will also learn the trends and
opportunities in the marketplace and practical job search tools and techniques.
JA Career Dimensions
Career planning starts from fostering understanding and interests from an early
age. JA Career Dimensions enables students to understand the local/global
career trends and opportunities in the high growth sectors, so that they can
plan their education and career paths.
I have learned that an entrepreneur requires a positive attitude to face challenges and setbacks. New
business ideas can actually help solve social problems and change people’s lives. – Student
8
JA Success Skills
Communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking (4 C skills) are the
most important 21st century skills. JA Success Skills hones the 4 C skills of
students in a workshop setting, introduces the developments in the employment market and helps students build their personal brand through practical
resume writing and interview skills.

Learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom. JA Job
Shadowing brings students to organisations for an up-close look at
professionals at work. Under the guidance of workplace mentors,
students acquire hands-on understanding of specific job categories
and industries. The experience makes a learning opportunity for not
just the students. Business volunteers also benefit from the views and

Developing an early and appropriate understanding
about occupational health and safety is essential to
the well-being of our future workforce. Co-organised
by JA HK and Occupational Safety and Health
Council, SH Workshop@School promotes safety and
health awareness among students and encourages a
positive attitude towards maintaining a healthy and
productive personal and professional life. During the
workshop, students visit several theme rooms to learn
about the safety and health issues that one should be
aware of in daily life and workplace. In 2014/15, the
workshop achieved 3,807 student contact hours.

FINANCIAL
LITERACY
Managing Personal Finance for Better Future
Studies have shown that the effects of financial literacy education in school continue to influence attitudes
and behaviors toward money management for students well after graduation. It is essential to equip young
people with the financial knowledge they need to fully participate in the economy, as well as to enable them
to make informed and wise life-changing decisions about their own financial futures.
JA Personal Finance
Maintaining responsible personal finances provides the foundation for a strong
career and professional life. JA Personal Finance equips secondary students
with the tools to make wise and responsible financial decisions throughout their
careers and lives. Discussions and hands-on activities are led by business
volunteers from whom students learn essential skills such as creating budgets,
understanding different payment methods and credit options, and discovering
the value of savings and investment.

I cannot agree more on the idea of instilling fundamental
values into students when they are still a blank piece of
paper. These core values are the basic concepts that
regular school syllabus may not explicitly cover. It is also
a great experience to lead a class of students in different
grades, observe their dynamics and spend a relaxing
Saturday morning or afternoon with your partner
volunteer. – Business Volunteer
”
JA Personal Spending 101
JA Personal Spending 101 introduces junior secondary students to the
importance and benefits of adopting a positive attitude on personal
finance and spending. Business volunteers lead groups of students in
sessions on ways to spend money prudently and responsibly. In
2014/15, the program achieved 4,173 student contact hours.
“
Children receive this essential knowledge in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. It could possibly be their
first time in life to think about their dreams and life goals. The key is after the program, when they
walk out of the school hall, they will have a different view on who they are, what they want to do and
how they could make their dreams come true. – Business Volunteer

ALL-ROUND
DEVELOPMENT
Nurturing Skills for Whole Person Development
The integrated programs encompass elements of work readiness, entrepreneurial thinking and financial
literacy. They broaden the learning experiences of students outside the classroom and deepen their
understanding of the economy as well as their sense of responsibility and belonging to the society. The
learning is essential for the whole person development of each young person.
JA Business Ethics
Successful careers are built on sound ethical judgement and
knowledge. JA Business Ethics exposes students to ethical
challenges in the workplace. They learn how to successfully
navigate these dilemmas and apply the lessons in real-life
situations. In 2014/15, the program achieved 1,866 student
contact hours.

children to use their creativity while developing their cognitive

INVEST IN OUR FUTURE
TOGETHER
JA HK is a non-subvented not-for-profit charity registered under S88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance. Our
success hinges on the strong partnership with and valuable support from different stakeholders in the
community. Partner companies contribute and support our organisation in these ways:
Business Volunteers: We are constantly recruiting volunteers who can help equip our young
people with 21st century business skills.
Program Sponsors: We seek sponsors for our existing primary and secondary school
programs on work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. We are also looking for
sponsors to support new programs that will develop our young people’s leadership skills,
creative thinking, multi-cultural literacy and interests in STEAM (Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) subjects.
Capacity Building Donors: We are keen to work with service providers who can help to build
our capacities in design, information technology, marketing and communications. By enhancing
our productivity through talent and technology, we will be able to reach out to more students in
an even more impactful way.
