Receive up-to-the-minute event updates, customize your schedule, access session documents, view speaker and exhibitor profiles, connect with other attendees, and more. Find the handout for this session there! Accessing your files on the go Polaris Office (Android | iOS) With Polaris Office, users can edit Microsoft Office, PDF, and TXT files on the road. It works with any system, and while the basic version is free, users can upgrade to heftier versions base on their needs. Remote access app that will allow you to use your home computer from any mobile device. Apps like these are especially helpful outside of the US as a way to log into a domestic server. This is especially helpful for iOS users who want to have dual functionality. Access your Microsoft device on the go from any Apple product. One last remote desktop option. Available for both iOS and Andriod. Access any computer anywhere from your mobile device. A way to collaboratively work on documents. Not only can your store your documents, but you can select multiple editors. Documents To Go (Android | iOS) Documents To Go contains best-in-class document viewing & editing, including save & synchronization options directly to your iOS device, desktop & laptop via Wi-Fi, and to the cloud service of your choice (iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive or SugarSync). iAnnotate (iOS) This app helps me proof transcripts on my iPad. Even better, all my proofers use it too. TurboScan (Android | iOS) This app quickly scans business cards or exhibits or job worksheets I can send to the agency I’m working for or my proofer/scopist. SlideShark (iOS) With this app, I can present a PowerPoint presentation using my iPad. Dropbox (Android | iOS) I use Dropbox to share files with myself, my proofreaders, my scopists, and practically everyone. Email and messenger apps Microsoft Outlook (Android | iOS) Whether or not you use Microsoft Outlook for email on your computer, Microsoft’s mobile version is great for lawyers,according to the Wisconsin Lawyer. Humin (Android | iOS) Humin creates a contact based on how you met someone. It links all social media to the app to help create contact information. Skype (Android | iOS) Skype is an application that provides video chat and voice call services. Users may exchange such digital documents as images, text, video and any others, and may transmit both text and video messages. Skype allows the creation of video conference calls. WebEx (Android | iOS) A better alternative to skype. More bandwidth capability Have successful online meetings. Meet via a secure conference line. See each other over webcam, share screens, and share documents. What’s App (Android | iOS) WhatsApp Messenger is a FREE messaging app available for Android and other smartphones. WhatsApp uses your phone's Internet connection to let you message and call friends and family. Switch from SMS to WhatsApp to send and receive messages, calls, photos, videos, documents, and Voice Messages. Managing your mobile office Facebook & LinkedIn Ad Managers (Android | iOS) Advertise your services via Facebook and LinkedIn and manage campaigns on your phone or tablet. Asana (Android | iOS) Asana is the easiest way for teams to track their work and get results. From tasks and projects to conversations and notifications, Asana enables teams to move work from start to finish. It’s simple to get started, but powerful enough to run your entire business. Clean Up Dups (Android | iOS) Cleanup Duplicate Contacts is by far the best contact management app solution available on your iPhone and iPad to remove multiple duplicate contacts in your address book instantaneously. After Cleanup Duplicate Contacts has worked its magic, your address book will be cleaner, faster and easier to navigate. Wickr (Android | iOS) This chat app lets you send self-destructing encrypted media and messages over a secure system, proving that you don't have to sacrifice usability for the sake of security. You can send basic text messages, images that you can mark up in the app, and 30-second audio recordings as well. Wickr lets you decide when your messages self-destruct on the recipient's device. The app even has a Shredder features that obliterates every trace of your old messages, for when you want to be super secure. Dashlane (Android | iOS) Password manager Dashlane puts your login credentials at your fingertips with this iPhone app. Dashlane, which also has desktop apps for syncing your passwords across devices, keeps all your username and password combinations safe, and can generate strong passwords for you as well. As with any password manager, all you have to remember is one strong password to unlock your Dashlane account, and all your other passwords will be accessible to you to unlock all your online accounts. LastPass (Android | iOS) A secure password saver. This can be used to store complex passwords making all of your accounts less vulnerable to hacking. Mint (Android | iOS) The website and service Mint helps you keep detailed accounts of your finances by connecting to all your financial accounts (and then some) and tracking all the money you earn and spend. The Mint.com iPhone app extends the experience so users can keep an eye on their spending better while on the go. The app gives you deep insight into how you're spending your money and whether you're sticking to the budget you've created in Mint. It's one of the best personal finance apps you'll find. Acorns (Android | iOS) Investment app. Fees do apply, but this is a way to invest your income and grow your portfolio. It rounds up purchases and puts small amounts into a growth fund. Credit Karma (Android | iOS) Stay on top of your credit score. This is one of the actual free platforms to stay on top of your finances and status. Gusto (Android | iOS) An option for those running their own firm, this app can help you manage payroll and benefits. FreshBooks (Android | iOS) Another bookkeeping software available to any small business owner. A cloud accounting software, this is a simple way to keep records and track invoicing. PayPal (Android | iOS) A simple and easy way to run invoicing on the go. Manageable from any mobile device, PayPal can enable you to set up a smooth billing process. Square (Android | iOS) Swipe credit cards and take payments on the go by using your tablet or phone. Apple Pay (iOS) If you aren’t already using Apple Pay, consider it. Not only can it be used to pay for things on the go, but more and more companies are allowing for in-app purchasing by using biometric security. Quickbooks (Android | iOS) QuickBooks is Intuit Inc's set of software solutions designed to manage payroll, inventory, sales and other needs of a small business. The software's features include marketing tools, merchant services, product and supplies, training solutions. Expensify (Android | iOS) With this app on my phone, I can “scan” receipts, and the app creates an expense report for me. Tax Bot (Android | iOS) Automatic mileage tracking Track your mileage automatically using the GPS in your smartphone. Come back later to classify it as business or personal to save you big money. Digitally Track Receipts Taxbot allows you to take crisp photos of your receipts and then requests the appropriate information for that expense to be tax compliant. Forget the chaos of lost or misplaced receipts. Approach April 15th with confidence knowing you are fully documented and compliant. AuditSafe™ Reports Taxbot is your IRS compliance partner. With the click of a mouse you can print off beautifully formatted AuditSafe deduction reports. It’s time to replace that “shoebox of receipts”. Venmo (Android | iOS) Devices like Square and services like Apple Pay make it easy for you to pay businesses without cash or cards. But if what if you just want to pay back a friend for a fun night on the town? With Venmo, you won't have to scrounge up dollar bills or remember how to write a check. Just download this app, enter your bank account or debit card data, connect to your friend, and start letting the money flow. Venmo also talks to Facebook so you can share your wildest transactions with the world. Receiptmatch (Android | iOS) I love this expense management app from American Express Open – and so does everyone in my company who has card privileges. Stay organized and manage your time AwesomeNote (iOS) As the name implies, Awesome Note (+Todo) is an iPhone app for creating notes and to-do lists. Of all the personal organization apps on Apple's mobile devices, Awesome Note is one of the most visually compelling, letting users choose which colors, background images, fonts, and icons they want to use in their notes. It's a treat to play with all these options, plus the app's graphical calendar, while also being productive. Ifttt (iOS) 'If this, then that'—shorten that little tag line to ifttt, and you've got one of the best apps on the market. This amazingly simple yet powerful iPhone app can automate just about anything you'd want to do in your digital life, from backing up photos on Facebook to sending you text message reminders of upcoming appointments. Trello (Android | iOS) I use this for organizing projects, ordering between offices. The website says, “Trello is a collaboration tool that organizes your projects into boards. In one glance, Trello tells you what's being worked on, who's working on what, and where something is in a process.” Toggl.com (Android | iOS) Federal reporters who are required to log and account for every minute of their days may find Toggl a godsend. An added benefit is that it's adjustable for forgotten categories. My Minutes (iOS) My Minutes lets users set goals to manage their time. For reporters, this can be how much time to spend scoping or proofreading, or users can set a goal to edit a certain number of pages per day. One of the major keys to being a successful reporter is organization, and part of that is knowing how long it takes to perform these tasks. Evernote (Android | iOS) Evernote is the app I like best to keep track of all my lists. EasilyDo (iOS) The free iPhone app EasilyDo works as a personal assistant and automation machine. You connect the app to a variety of online services, like your email, calendar, Facebook account, and so forth, and then EasilyDo looks for things it can help you get easily done. For example, a notification might ask you if you'd like EasilyDo to add the contact details of someone who has recently emailed you to your address book. Or it might spot an upcoming birthday of a friend and let you set up a "happy birthday" post to their timeline in advance. It's an amazing productivity app that helps you take care of a variety of tasks quickly and efficiently. Flux (Android | iOS) Flux makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day. It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. RescueTime (Android | iOS) Wonder where your day went? RescueTime is an automatic time and attention tracker that helps individuals and teams propagate good processes and eliminate bad habits. Fight information overload and multitask thrash! Apps to get you where you want to go Waze (Android | iOS) Waze is the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app. Join other drivers in your area who share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute. Uber (Android | iOS) A customer requests a car using a smartphone app and Uber sends its closest driver to their location, using the phone's GPS. The fare is charged directly to your credit card. Lyft (Android | iOS) Biggest competitor to Uber thus far. Their biggest difference is that drivers undergo more rigorous background checks. Hopper (Android | iOS) Hopper is great if you are planning a holiday in the future. It can tell you when the flights you want will be the cheapest, so if you’re willing to be flexible, you could find yourself a great deal. If you can’t wait to book, just select the flights you’re interested in and it will notify you every time the price changes, as well as giving you advice on when to book. Kayak (Android | iOS) Kayak is the best all-round service I have found for booking multi-city flights and hotels. It can also be used to book rental cars, plan your itinerary and track your flight details. It is by far the easiest and most functional multibooking platform I’ve used, even just down to the simplicity of the search pages. Super Shuttle (Android | iOS) Super Shuttle is more convenient than lugging bags through public transit or driving and parking at the airport, with prices that are generally more economical than a limo or taxi. You save money by exchanging some of your time and a shared ride with others. To minimize the number of stops, our savvy dispatch system groups passengers by geographic area, so trips are as efficient as possible. Best Parking (Android | iOS) Parking can be a nightmare. Especially in busy cities where street parking has a time cap or is extremely limited. Best Parking allows you to find the cheapest and most convenient parking facilities around your destination. Currently the app has information for 105 cities & 115 airports throughout North America. MileIQ (Android | iOS) I use this app to automatically log my mileage. I’m saving time every week, and I’m going to get my biggest mileage deduction ever this year. WorldMate (Android | iOS) I use this app to manage all my travel. DriveMode (Android | iOS) Apps that read text messages while driving are easy to find, but DriveMode reads incoming emails and lets drivers reply hands-free. (This is not "AT&T DriveMode.") Yelp (Android | iOS) Yelp is a great app for getting local knowledge on where to eat, drink, and shop. You can easily find places nearby, read or add reviews and photos, and get directions, Filters include price, distance, rating, most reviewed, and opening hours. AirBnB (Android | iOS) Make travel planning as mobile as you are with the Airbnb iPhone App! Airbnb opens the door to the world’s most interesting places to stay and is the simplest way to earn money from your extra space. With over 600,000 listings in more than 34,000 cities, Airbnb connects you with the experience that’s right for you. HomeAway (Android | iOS) Find and book the perfect vacation rental in just a few taps! With the HomeAway & VRBO mobile app you can quickly and easily access all the tools you need to plan, book, and manage your stay. GasBuddy (Android | iOS) When I’m on the road, this app helps me find the nearest and cheapest gas station. Hhonors, Marriot… The official app for all of our distinct world-class brands, Hilton, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, Curio Collection, Canopy, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton, Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites and Hilton Grand Vacations. The Hilton HHonors app makes traveling easier to any of our 4,100+ hotels and resorts. TripIt (Android | iOS) A way to track and share travel plans. This is especially helpful in a group setting. Both a free version and an upgraded version available. Google Translate (Android | iOS) Helpful when on the go and you need foreign language help. Translate anything straight from your phone. Search engines you may not know about WolframAlpha (iOS) WolframAlpha is like a math and science version of Wikipedia. It's an outstanding source of nerd knowledge and computation about virtually anything, from basic algebra to the depths of the universe. It's like a search engine for algebra, physics, engineering, and so much more—even nutritional information. The app does require an Internet connection to work. Merriam-Webster Dictionary (Android | iOS) The Merriam-Webster app has new features, including a word of the day and “How strong is your vocabulary?” I’m learning new words all the time with this app. Legal apps that help you on the job ABA Journal (Android | iOS) Read summaries of the latest legal news, updated as it happens throughout every business day. Plus find original news reports and analysis, and read in-depth monthly magazine articles, for free wherever you are. Readers also will find contests, galleries, questions, polls and lively comments. E-transcript (Android | iOS) E-Transcript is a professional grade application available so you can review and annotate E-Transcripts anytime. A good on-the-job option to gain electronic signatures directly onto PDF documents. A robust PDF editor and document organizer. Prides itself on being the “swiss army knife” of document management. Has been adopted by the attorney community for exhibit management. iCVNet (iOS) Stenograph’s iCVNet iPad app provides attorneys and judges instant viewing of realtime deposition and trial transcripts on an iPad. Court reporters using Case CATalyst software can send the realtime text via a wireless network. Attorneys and legal professionals can connect to the reporter’s secure WiFi network to receive, view, mark, search and email the transcript. Once connected, the entire transcript is displayed, even if connecting after testimony has started. Grammarly (Android | iOS) Grammarly is an online proofreader that automatically detects grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice and style mistakes in your writing. CamCard (Android | iOS) CamCard is the easiest app to manage and exchange business cards, the perfect fit for sales people, entrepreneurs, business developers or marketing experts, and anyone who want to be one. It works with all modern CAT software, so you can use any court reporter. You can connect to the court reporter locally or in the Cloud. Bridge Mobile instantly refreshes your document with all editing changes made by the court reporter or scopist as long as the court reporter's translation software supports our popular Bridge protocol, which is published on our website. Virtually all translation software supports the Bridge protocol. SignNow (Android | iOS) This simple productivity and business app can you countless headaches. The next time you have a document that requires your signature in a hurry, just open it with SignNow, place your John Hancock, and be done with it. The app can open files from email, Dropbox, the Camera app, and other sources. Extras for your physical and mental health Flixster (Android | iOS) A database of all movie both in theaters and on DVD/OnDemand. Sort by genre and rotten tomato ratings. Epicurious (Android | iOS) A massive recipe database. Search by what ingredients you have in your fridge or by how much time it will take to complete. This is a great way to find recipes for meals on a budget while you are short on time. Bonjournal (Android | iOS) This is the perfect app to keep track of memories from a special holiday. It’s a sleek minimalist-style travel journal that lets you write notes and diary entries from your trip and add pictures to illustrate. You can then convert your entries to PDFs or share them via email or on social media. My Fitness Pal (Android | iOS) Counting calories is a popular way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Once you’ve logged your BMI, the app will determine a healthy calorie count, depending on your goals, and then you can log pretty much everything you consume in just a few taps. The database of food items on the app is seemingly endless but if you do have trouble finding something you’ve ate, you can still log its details manually. DreamBit (Android | iOS) DreamBit lets a person imagine how they would look with a different hairstyle or colour, or in a different time period, age, country or anything else that can be queried in an image search engine. A flashlight app (several are available; a specific version was not recommended) I added a flashlight app for picking up after my dog at 4:30 a.m., but I find I use it for many other things. It is one of the most necessary of apps on my phone. Dubsmash (Android | iOS) Dubsmash makes it easy and fun to create hilarious conversations. In just a few seconds, you can dub well-known quotes and sounds in order to produce funny videos you can then share with your friends. Twitter Periscope (Android | iOS) Live streaming is the hot new way to constantly document your life and share it with the world. Twitter's Periscope app makes it easy to find interesting new streams or start broadcasting one of your own. You can save streams and revisit them later, and privacy options mean your face will only be seen by a select few if that's what you want. Welcome to the future of vlogging. My Plate (Android | iOS) Quickly and easily track not only calories but also quantities of each food group so you can be sure you are getting a balanced diet on the go. See a list of what you eat each day along with quick-glance charts that compare actual consumption to your custom MyPlate food plan. Duolingo (Android | iOS) Learning a new language is always a good idea and Duolingo makes the process a lot less daunting by teaching you through a series of games-style lessons. Each lesson is designed around reading, writing, listening or speaking and are all short enough that they don’t take up a big chunk of your time. Pokemon Go (Android | iOS) We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the biggest app on the planet right now. It can seem silly on the surface, but there is a reason it’s so popular.
