CONGRATULATIONS
We all owe a debt of gratitude to all of the officers
who served during the past
Elk Year, and to all those
who chaired the various
committees and activities
which took place throughout
last year.
―Many Hands
Make A Burden Light‖, we
probably all know that.
As we begin a new Elk
Year in April, It’s good time
for each of our members to
reflect on their contributions
to Elkdom and to identify
whatever it might be that
will help our Lodge become
stronger and more productive. We have many good
programs, can we do them
better?... Do we need others?...and ask,
How can I help?

Our Busy Beavers
Mike Adamovich was presented a plaque, by Irv Breitbart who represented Masons, in recognition of
his support to their Program of supplying our troops with food and gifts for distribution to the peoples in the
Middle East. The primary purpose of the program is to develop and/or maintain a close relationship with
the local people. Mike coordinated the collection of goods at our Lodge which were then sent, by the Masons, to our Armed Forces overseas. Congratulations Mike, and Thanks for a Job Well Done !
Our thanks go to Joe Metrovich for his donation of the new paper towel dispensers and to Tom Dunnings for his donations to the Bar. We also appreciate the efforts of Tom Pavletich, Donie Simione, and
Tony Venditti for their handiwork in keeping our Lodge in good shape with whatever is needed at the time.
ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION
Thanks to all the members who made contributions to ENF this past Elk year 2009-2010. It is still not too
late to contribute. You have until March 15, 2010. We ask the members to contribute $10.00 per year. After you reach $100.00, your name will be put on the ENF Board and you can continue contributing every
year. The money raised through our donations, helps Hoop Shoot, Veteran's programs, Scholarships,
Cerebral Palsy to name a few. So please consider starting a pledge for ENF, you are helping the youth of
today and tomorrow.
Thank you.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS
On February 13, our volunteers took a morning ride to
St Agatha’s in Nanuet, and served at the Adaptive
Games. This event is an important one to the Special
Olympics program in that it caters to those people
with significant disabilities, many of whom are in
wheel chairs and who can not compete in other
events: It’s a day for them to have a little fun away
from their places of residence. Our Thanks go to our
volunteers who set & packed up all the equipment,
and helped the Special Olympians while they played
the many different games. (see page 8 for more info)

SCHOLARSHIPS
Joe Pikula has served as our Lodge Scholarship Chairman for the
past 13 years. During that time, he managed the Grand Lodge and
New York State Elks Association programs for our Lodge, in addition
to our own Lodge Scholarship program. Many of our Yorktown Area
students earned scholarship awards as a result of those programs.
At a meeting in January, Exalted Ruler Andy Tumolo presented
Joe with a plaque, on behalf of our District and Grand Lodge, in recognition of his work in the Mid-Hudson District and his efforts in making the Elks National Foundation Scholarship Program a success.

All of our Lodge Champions participated in the Mid-Hudson district
Competition at Arlington High School. Mike Broder of the 8-9 year
division and Austin De Raaff of the 12-13 year old division were
crowned District Champions and went on to represent our Lodge
in he Regional competition , which was also held at Arlington High
School. There, Mike came in second and Austin became the Regional champion and will represent our Lodge in the New York
State finals in Liverpool. Congratulations to both on their achievements in this years contest…….stay tuned for more results.
Our Lodge Hoop Shoot event is preceded by a competition, which is conducted in our local schools.
Over a thousand boys and girls in all the age groups compete at the schools, and the winners and runner-ups in each division are select to participate in our Lodge contest. We are blessed with some dedicated instructors who take the time to help the children ―qualify‖ for our Lodge Championship event.
Our sincere Thanks go to the following for that effort: Brookside-Mrs. Armstrong; Copper BeechSharon Sarsen; Crompond -Mr. Armstrong; St. Patrick’s- Ms. Alverez-Van Cortlandtville- John Martin & Patrick Connolly.

VETERANS PROGRAM
CASTLE POINT VISIT JANUARY 23, 2010
OUR HEROES
OUR ORGANIZERS
The Mid– Hudson District sponsored a luncheon at the Castle Point VA Hospital in January. Our
Lodge, led by Wayne Gorski and Richie Paul , did the cooking , provided most of the manpower and
transported the food to the facility. The vets were treated to sodas, salad, a hot meal of roast beef
mashed potatoes and vegetable, (something the vets repeatedly thanked us for), home made cake,
ice cream and coffee or tea. The organizers, pictured above with Richie and Wayne (l-r) were led by
Jeanette Pousada of Brewster Lodge, Shelly and Dianne of the V A Hospital, and Tom Incorvaia
of Poughkeepsie Lodge. Most of the volunteers are pictured above and we thank them for their help
in making this a very successful day; they were: Jim Capone Ted Galgano, Tony Masi, Jim Matthews, Joe Pikula, and Bob Vijacki, from our Lodge, and James Meyrer of Brewster Lodge and
James Pousada (on leave from the Military), and Jill Gorski Csordas for baking the cake.
The veterans committee delivered over 6,000 valentines cards, made by some students of Chappaqua, Briacliff and Putnam Valley schools, along with heart shaped cookies baked by
Jill Gorski Csordas , Jean Gorski, Wayne Gorski , Jake Csordas and Skyla King. A special
Thanks goes to Caylin Dunphy and Alice Dunphy for coordinating the card making efforts by the
Putnam Valley Schools and Girl Scouts.
Richie Paul and Wayne Gorski delivered all the cards and cookies to the veterans at
the Montrose VA Hospital , Castle Point Nursing Home and the Montrose Nursing home. on
Tues February 9th. All of the veterans sincerely appreciated the thoughtfulness behind this effort
THANK YOU ALL

relatively ―new‖ folks who worked with us during the past two months and filled in while several of our ―Old StandBy’s‖ vacationed in warmer climates….Mike Adamovich, Bruno Bagala , Vic Bonci, Bob Falco, John Gembecki, Tom Pikula, Danny Raiola, Jerry Sammon, Ed Santiago, Tony Venditti, Dave Yazzetti. We also
welcome the other new team members who have signed up to join us; Martin Brennan Joe Cacciola, Jim
Capone, Ted Galgano, Wayne Gorski, Mike Magnani, Jim Matthews, Ed Morvillo, Jim Morrison, Mike
Mullins, John Murray, and Bob Vijacki….they have joined a group who were previously signed up, including:
Rich D’Andrea, George Davis, Jim Hamilton, Charlie Scheld, and Andy Tumolo
We will continue to seek help ―as we need it‖, so if you haven’t yet been called….count your blessings and
enjoy the ―days off‖….We are working toward determining what everyone ―can and likes‖ to do, so we can develop ―work crews‖ and, if possible, a reasonable schedule…..that may take some time so please be patient with
us.
We could not function without our ―Core Group‖ of Rich and Mary De Silva, Paul Egan, Tony Grasso,
Barbara Leifels, Danny LoPresti, Jack McCarthy, Joe Pikula, Steve Smith, Fred Versaci, Jim Vignola,
and Sam Visconti, who have been available for most of the nights we’ve had Bingo. We also appreciate the efforts of the Ladies Auxiliary members who have worked in our kitchen these past two months and served good
food to our customers; Mary Blackadder, Clara Cartelli, Liz Gentile, Jennie Grasso, and Betsy Solow
