dear friends, We are very grateful for your continued support. With your efforts mnd was able to provide services to five times as many clients this year, our highest service number in 10 years. It was an especially difficult time for newly unemployed clients, but together we helped Baltimore’ s most vulnerable populations obtain resources, gain new skills, and get back to work. board of directors 2009–2010 President Terri Whitley Vice President Michael Swaby-Rowe Treasurer Debra Hart Secretary Coriolanus A.J. Ferrusi After major state budget cuts in the spring of 2009, we were thankfully able to diversify our financial resources and expand services to a larger client base to respond to the needs of our community. Together, our three programs offered services to 2,090 clients, five times more than last year, with our total expenses only one and half times greater. Charles M. Blomquist In October 2010, mnd moved to larger and more functional headquarters at 2700 North Charles Street, Suite 200, in Charles Village with larger training rooms and computer lab space. I want to invite all of our supporters and friends to visit us and learn more about what we do. Barbara Sonberg Together, we can make a stronger impact in our community! Reentry is not easy for the 11,000 ex-felons returning to Baltimore City’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods each year with little or no money and no housing. They face the challenge of transitioning back into a community where over 50% return to prison in less than three years. mnd works in partnership with Jericho Episcopal Community Services of Maryland to provide intensive case management and employment services for inmates returning to Baltimore under the Public Safety Compact initiative. Pre- and post-release services are provided to ensure that living essentials and substance abuse treatments are established so that clients can successfully complete a comprehensive three-week employment readiness program. Participants meet with a program coordinator for barrier management and with a job developer for job searches until they become stable and employed. new beginnings mnd gained early recognition in the field as one of the first providers of employment services for female ex-offenders in Baltimore City. As part of the New Beginnings project, mnd partnered with Morgan State University to offer services to 1,840 welfare recipients. mnd provided weekly workshops to help customers of Baltimore City Department of Social Services explore their career goals through assessments. They develop barrier reduction plans to define concrete steps, resources, and timelines for achievement. This joint effort and success produced the opportunity for mnd to present at the National Association of Welfare Research and Statistics conference in September 2010. mnd workshop engagement is a positive force in developing clients’ career paths and skills. our mission is to provide comprehensive career counseling, employment assistance, and post-employment support to people who are in life and career transition. our vision is that our clients are economically self-supporting and productive members of our community.
