The history
of aluminium
In most homes when the word aluminium is heard most
people automatically think of foil. After all, aluminium foil is
present in almost every single kitchen across the globe. But
aluminium is so much more precious than that. The vast
majority of people are unaware that it surrounds us a great
deal playing key roles in everyday life from transportation,
construction, packaging, electronics, utensils, household
items and so much more.
Aluminium is the third most abundant element in the earth’s
crust and its compounds have been used by man since the
earliest of times. Ancient Middle Eastern civilisations used its
salts for the preparation of dyes and medicines, and at one
point in history, it was considered such a valuable commodity that rulers and the wealthy preferred impressing their
guests with plates and cutlery made from aluminium rather
than gold.
In 1825 Hans Christian Oersted was the first to prepare pure
metallic aluminium and in 1845 Friedrich Wöhler established
many of the metal’s properties, including the remarkable
lightness. It was this discovery that truly excited researchers
and paved the way for development.
4
Aluminium is a product with unique properties. It has a low density, is non-toxic, has a high
thermal conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance, is non-magnetic, non-sparking and
can be easily cast, machined and formed. It is the second most malleable metal, the
sixth most ductile and is 100% recyclable. As an alloy it is both strong and durable
while maintaining its light property. These exceptional qualities have made it an
essential product for the building industry.
Aluminium was first used in quantity for building and construction in the
1920s. The applications were primarily oriented toward decorative detailing and art deco structures. The breakthrough came in 1930, when major
structures within the Empire State Building in New York were built with
aluminium; including interior structures and the famous spire.
Today, aluminium is recognized as one of the most energy efficient and sustainable construction materials. It is the second
most widely specified metal in building after steel, and is
used in all sectors from commercial building to domestic
dwelling.
We can proudly say that the extraordinary characteristics and properties of aluminium as a
material have lead to revolutionary and innovative changes in building techniques and
in architectural and engineering projects.
Aluminium is leading the way into the
future of the building and construction industry and we are excited to
be a part of this journey.

Green | buildings
Going green has become of paramount importance as our
resources become more limited. In different sectors from
industry to individual home dwellings, people are implementing
green practices.
In the construction industry, Green Building, also known as green
construction or sustainable building, refers to both the structure
and use of processes that are environmentally responsible and
resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle; from siting
to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and
demolition.
In Dubai, the goal of implementing Green Building is to improve
the performance of the buildings by reducing energy, water and
material consumption, improving public health and safety, and
increasing efficiency, while still retaining the excellence and
beauty of the buildings that represent Dubai as the leader of high
standards of living, comfort and success.
86
Here at ESC Aluminium Systems we believe in the importance of
sustainability and green practices and have designed our systems to
include these in the following ways:
• Our systems, and specially designed hardware for the curtain
wall system, are designed with advanced section profiles that
provide an easy assembling process conserving time and energy
in fabrication, site installation and maintenance.
• Our thermal break systems improve energy efficiency by meeting
the performance requirements for each type of building. The
system offers the lowest possible U values to achieve the
requirement for insulation, which in turn lowers the consumption
of energy of the cooling or heating system of the building.
• We provide more options of windows and door profiles that can be
opened as per the requirement of the architect.
• We use special gaskets and polyamide thermal strips to help
eliminate heat entering the structure, and decrease noise leaking
through.
• We use non-toxic and recyclable materials of aluminium for
extrusion, without losing quality or strength.
• Recyclable and environmentally friendly raw materials are used
for manufacturing the hardware and accessories.
The regulations of Green Building intend to support Dubai’s Strategic
Plan, creating a more sustainable urban environment and extending
the ability of the Emirate’s infrastructure to meet the needs of
future development.

Estidama
Estidama, the Arabic word for
sustainability, is a building design
methodology for constructing and
operating buildings and communities more
sustainably. The program is a key aspect
of the “Abu Dhabi Vision 2030” drive to
build the Abu Dhabi emirate according to
innovative green standards.
Within Estidama is a green building rating
system called the Pearl Rating System
utilized to evaluate sustainable building
development practices in Abu Dhabi.
The Estidama program is mandatory in
Abu Dhabi and all buildings must achieve
a minimum 1 Pearl Rating, while all
government-funded buildings must have a
minimum 2 Pearl Rating.
redesigned our aluminium profile sections
to achieve the lowest possible U values by
using our new type of polyamide thermal
connectors that separate the internal and
external profile.
We applied a 22-24mm gap in between
the profiles making the insulation more
effective by reducing the amount of
heat transfer coming from outside the
structure.
ESC Aluminium Systems started
developing and incorporating all the
requirements needed to achieve the
goal and vision of Estidama. With ESC

ESC FW1-50 Series:
Curtain Wall System
We have developed the FW1-50 Series curtain wall by focusing on three main
areas, such as cost, safety and speed of fabrication and installation. Some
of the advanced features it offers are by using a latch system for the glass,
which self-fixes to the frame giving a breakthrough in curtain wall technology. It avoids the use of temporary pressure plates and screws to hold the
glass when set into place. We have designed a transom connector that carries
more weight and can be installed from inside or outside the structure giving
more speed for installation. The system offers the use of EPDM rubber pads
to isolate in between transom and mullion sections which forbids noise, resulting from daily contraction and expansion. EPDM front gaskets are fixed
as well before the structural silicone which prevents water leakage in case
the silicone is not well filled. A specially designed teeth plates to fit on our
pre-made wall brackets to speed-up the installation process allowing easy
movement to correct the alignment of the glass panels. We have designed a
snap-on pressure cover section for the conventional type that avoids the use
of fixing screws, which makes the installation fast and easy.
ESC FW1-70 Series:
Curtain Wall System
FW1-70 Series offers the use of a special locking clip to hold the glass in
a 4-way structural system. A glass fixing support is also used in addition
of structural silicone to strengthen the fixation. This protects the glass
sheet from falling down and at the same time increases its lifetime expectation to twice as long. The system offers the use of EPDM rubber
pads in between transom and mullion sections which eliminates, noise,
resulting from daily contraction and expansion. EPDM front gaskets are
fixed as well before the structural silicone which prevents water leakage
in case the silicone is not well filled.
94
ESC SL-120 Series:
Sliding Thermal Break System
SL-120 Series is our most advanced sliding thermal break system. The
internal and external profile sections are designed to be connected without the use of continuous crimping. It can be connected manually with
the use of special internal polyamide connectors which are distributed
equally then tightly fixing it with an external continuous polyamide strip.
These connectors are the main key to meet the ESTIDAMA requirements.
With our advanced air system rest assured that the full thermal performance will be reached by ensuring there will be no air leakage.
ESC FW1-85 Series:
Unitized Curtain Wall System
FW1-85 Series is our newly developed mechanical unitized curtain
wall system, without silicon bonding which gives more assurance
for longer lifetime guaranty and easier replacement of glass in the
future. The profile sections are designed to meet the different degrees of segmentations of the glass panel by having selections of
adaptors depending on the project requirements, and this creates
flexibility in convenience with circular designed buildings and structures. The system is using EPDM rubber to resist hot temperature
and weather variations. There are designated brackets attached to
every unit for lifting during the installation process. We have designed a special hook that compliments the bracketing system on
every slab.
ESC SL-114 Series:
Sliding Non-Thermal Break System
SL-114 Series is designed and constructed using the highest quality materials to produce a smooth sliding system that compliments each home
or office where it’s used. This offers an effective and useful feature such
as the use of EPDM flocking gaskets which helps the shutter slide easily.
Having dual weather seals at the top, bottom and sides provide the benefits of dust elimination and air tightness. The system offers the use of
high quality hardware, accessories and a water drainage system.
95

ESC Systems
ESC H-100 Series:
Hinged Thermal Break System
H-100 Series is our most advanced hinged thermal break system. It offers
the same features with SL-120 Series by making the design of the internal
and external profile sections to be connected without the use of continuous
crimping. This procedure makes the assembly faster and saves time by avoiding the use of machines. The special feature of this system is the concealed
type hinge accessory that makes the assembly fully tight sealed. Using the
same special internal connectors and external continuous polyamide strip
meets the ESTIDAMA requirements. ESC doors and windows are safe, secure,
easy to operate and we offer the choice to use laminated or tempered safety
glass with Low E insulated for improved performance.
ESC H-63 Series:
Hinged Thermal Break System
H-63 Series is one of our hinged thermal break system which is designed
in the traditional way. The section profiles are supported with a wide
range selection of high quality hardware and accessories. The system
is using EPDM rubber to resist hot temperature and weather variations.
With our advanced air system, rest assured that the full thermal performance will be reached by ensuring there will be no air leakage in the
home or office.
96
ESC H-45 Series:
Hinged Non-Thermal Break System
H-45 Series offers the highest quality of materials used from production
to installation, together with the use of high performance EPDM rubber
gaskets that eliminate air, dust and water penetrations. The system offers a wide selection of high quality hardware and accessories. We have
designed a one-click safety latch accessory that keeps the doors and
windows shut and closed even without applying the locking mechanism
of the handle. The section profiles are also supporting the use of the tilt
and turn window mechanism.
ESC F66 Series:
Folding Thermal Break System
We have developed the F-66 Series folding system to create a large open
spaces for both home and office requirements, with no unsightly intermediate vertical frames to obstruct the opening. With endless possibilities, the multi-fold door makes the room look bigger, making living space
more flexible. The system is secure, durable and has a slim type of perimeter frame. There are numbers of different configurations available
for selections to suit the client’s requirements. With security glass and
a secure frame, these aluminium bi-folds are virtually maintenance free
and built to last.
