DAN’S SAY By Dan Adovasio, Director, Email: [email protected] A Father’s Corvette Dream Fulfilled By the time you read this the Historic 87th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Race on June 12-13, 2010 will have already been completed and another winner will have their name recorded in the Le Mans racing history book! Corvettes Photos by Steve Robertson First Challenge… Sebring! 2 SPRING 2010 www.c5registry.com www.c6registry.com ™ Sebring, Corvettes first race of the 2010 American Le Mans Series, was cut short by an unfortunate pit lane mishap which sent the C6.R #4 Corvette behind the wall. This decisive moment occurred at 3:09 pm when the C6.R #3 Corvette pitted with Magnussen replacing Johnny O’Connell. Magnussen was released from his pit box just as Emmanuel Collard was entering the adjacent stall in the C6.R #4 Corvette. The resulting contact damaged both vettes with the #4 being immediately sent behind the wall to the transporters garage where the Corvette crew replaced its front stabilizer bar and significant bodywork. Meanwhile, the #3 suffered a punctured front tire and returned to the pits for repairs after completing another lap at reduced speed. You can’t see it during the day, but at night with the lights on, the lens of the headlamp is not as clear. Is this caused from moisture that gets in it and do they need to be replaced? It sounds like you may have used a wheel cleaner that uses a mild acid solution to help melt away the brake and road grime. If you have been using a wheel cleaner, then you need to check the bottle. It is Corvette time year-round in Southern Nevada, Arizona and California, but Autumn is the very best time for Corvettes. There are so many Corvette activities that it is difficult to choose. There have been car shows, A perfect day for the Coronado Speed Fest Historic Car Races. homecoming parades, the fabulous Coronado Speed Fest Historic Car Races, the ALMS race at Laguna Seca and Spring Mountain Corvette Track Days. The Coronado Speed Fest, now sanctioned by the Historic Motor Sports Association, was held in September 2009 at the Coronado Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego. Vintage racecars compete on a road track set up on the runways and taxiways. The Speed Fest provides corral parking for several car clubs including Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari, Mustang, Cobra, Viper and many others. There is also a car show for those that want to compete for the honor of most beautiful car. The pits are open for everyone to peruse the vintage racers and chat with the owners, drivers and mechanics. This event is one of the best-kept secrets in Southern California.
