ABOUT THIS GUIDE
This Installation Guide explains how to install, activate and configure Tropimed on your Windows or
Mac computer.
When installing, please pay special attention to the following paragraphs:

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
Important
At the time this document was written, Tropimed had been tested under the Windows and Mac
operating systems listed in this section. Tropimed can, however, be used with more recent versions.
For further information on more recent versions of operating systems, please visit our website at
www.tropimed.com.
To install and use Tropimed, you must be equipped with the following minimum hardware and
software:

INSTALL TROPIMED
IMPORTANT NOTE
To install Tropimed or update a previous version ( version 7.0 or later) of Tropimed please
read § 3.2.
The oldest version of Tropimed (v 5.x) is not compatible with this version. You can remove the old
version of Tropimed like any other Windows program. Follow these steps:
1. Close Tropimed.
2. Go to the Start menu > Control Panel. (Windows 8 users: Learn how to access the Control
Panel at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/where-is-control-panel )
3. Click Programs and Features.
4. Double-click Tropimed.
5. Click Uninstall from the confirmation dialog.
3.1 STANDALONE OR NETWORK INSTALLATION?
Tropimed is a web application that can be installed on a local workstation (Windows or Mac) or a
company network (Windows). The use of Tropimed varies depending on the type of installation
chosen. For example, when installing on a company network the user must login to Tropimed before
using it.
In addition, network installation should be conducted by a qualified person who understands the
architecture of the network and the existing permissions.
TYPE OF INSTALLATION
Standalone
(Windows and Mac)
PRODUCT
 For users who have a single license and use Tropimed on one computer.
 It is not necessary to log in (enter one's email address and password) to use the
application.
 Users can update Tropimed (automatic updates via Internet)
 Default location of files*:
Executable program: C:\Program Files\Tropimed_TN
Data: C:\Users\Public\Documents\tropimed
 The default port used is: 8085
The network administrator needs to configure incoming connections on the
port specified at the end of the installation (by default 8085). Which also
appears in the connection URL to Tropimed.

For clinics and holders of a multi-user license.
It is possible to define the number of users and their names.
It is necessary to log in (enter one's email address and password) to use the
application.
Only the Tropimed administrator can update the data program (online updates).
The network administrator have to configure the firewall.
Default location of files*:
Executable program: C:\Program Files\Tropimed_TN
Data: C:\Program Files\Tropimed_TN
TCP Default port number: 8085
The network administrator have to configure the firewall to accept incoming
requests on the port contained in the url connection to Tropimed (Default port
number: 8085)
* Example for Windows 7. The location may be different depending on the operating
system.

3.2 TROPIMED INSTALLATION UNDER WINDOWS AND MAC OS
FIRST, IF…
THEN
… you download the software
- Double click on the downloaded zip file to extract
the program on your desktop.
- Open the folder you just unzipped
… you install Tropimed from a
DVD
insert it in your DVD drive and open the DVD
window

1. Double click on the Tropimed install icon.
 Windows: WindowsTropimedInstaller
 Mac OS: MacTropimedInstaller
2. When you are prompted, enter the user name and the administrator password.
2.1. If you perform an update of the software the following screen [Fig. 1] will be displayed and the
previous version will be uninstalled. Wait the the end of the uninstall process until the
installation window appears.

3. In the installation window, select your language and click on OK.
4. Accept the terms of the license agreement and click on Next.
5. In the step "Choose Install Set" Fig. 2 choose Standalone or Network mode of installation (see §
3.1) and click on Next.

6. Confirm or modify the destination folder for the installation and click on Next.
7. Click again on Next if you prefer to set up your email configuration later Fig. 3.
Note: Setting up your outgoing SMTP email is optional and can be done later within the application
under Setup > Mail settings. When email is correctly set up, Tropimed can send information via
email.

8. Click on Install and then Done to complete the installation.
8.1. If you have performed an update of the software click on Close the Console [Fig. 1]
3.3 FILE STORAGE LOCATION ON THE HARD DRIVE
The Tropimed installation program will copy files into different folders on your hard drive depending
on the installation options that you choose (standalone/network) and depending on your operating
system. At the end of the installation, you can view the ReadMe.txt file in the Tropimed folder. This
file shows the location of the installed files. You can display the file with TextEdit or a word
processing program.

4.
ACTIVATION OF TROPIMED
Tropimed software uses an on-line activation technology that guarantees that you have an authentic
copy of the software and protects Tropimed against any unauthorized distribution of the program.
To activate Tropimed you must enter your customer number, your email address and password in the
dialog box that is displayed on startup [Fig. 4]
This login information will be provided to you by email and by postal mail when you subscribe.

4.1 ABOUT TROPIMED ACTIVATION
Until you activate Tropimed, the Tropimed Activation dialog box will appear each time you start the
application. During the activation procedure, the Tropimed activation server will acquire the
installation key and a machine ID from your computer. Tropimed does not collect any personal
information during this procedure.
IN ORDER TO:

In the dialog box that is displayed on startup [Fig. 4] enter
your customer number, your email address and your
password. This login information will be provided to you
by email and by postal mail when you subscribe.
Activate Tropimed later
In the Activation dialog box [Fig. 4], click on Use trial
version.
Activate Tropimed during the 30 day period
without activation
In order to display the activation dialog box select the Setup
menu and then click on the Activate button. Follow the
instructions above.
Reactivate Tropimed at the date of expiry
In the dialog box that is displayed on startup [Fig. 4] enter
your customer number, your email address and your
password. This login information will be provided to you
by email and by postal mail when you subscribe.

4.2 TROPIMED ACTIVATION BY TELEPHONE
If you do not have an Internet connection or are unable to activate Tropimed on-line for network
security reasons, you can activate your Tropimed software by telephone.
Click on Activation by telephone in the Tropimed Activation dialog box. When the dialog box opens,
call Tropimed Customer Service using the telephone number provided in the document that you
received with your software. You will be asked to provide your activation code and enter your login
information. Customer Service will provide you with the activation key for your software and your
software will be activated.
4.3 CONCERNING THE PERIOD OF USE WITHOUT ACTIVATION
You can use Tropimed without activating it for a period 30 days. During this period, each time you
open the software, the Activation dialog box will indicate the number of days remaining and prompt
you to activate your software.
To continue using Tropimed after the period of use without activation, you must activate the
software by Internet or telephone.

CONFIGURATIONS
5.1 CONFIGURING AN EMAIL CLIENT
When your email client correctly set up, Tropimed can send information via email. To do that, click
on Setup > Mail settings and complete the fields presented.
For example, you will find the settings for a subscriber who has a Gmail account:
Authentication: Yes
Server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465 or 587
User: [email protected]
Password: Your Gmail password
Sender: Sender email
5.2 SETTING UP A NETWORK (PROXY)
Depending on the security policy set up by your network administrator, it may be necessary to
configure the proxy server in Tropimed. Unless you do this, you cannot update the program on-line
since it is not able to access the Internet.
To configure the proxy server click on Setup > Network and fill in the fields with the settings
provided by your network administrator.

NOTICE OF UPDATES
Each time you start the application, Tropimed will automatically search for data updates. If you have
an Internet connection and the required permissions, you can directly apply the updates. You can
also perform an update of your product at a later time by following the choices under Setup > My
Tropimed.

YEARLY UPDATES
A major update (update of data + program) is published yearly and provided to subscribers.

UNINSTALL TROPIMED
IN ORDER TO:
IN TROPIMED, PROCEED AS FOLLOWS:
- Uninstall Tropimed –
(standard uninstall)
Access the installation folder Tropimed_TN and run the file
uninstall.bat as administrator. Follow the onscreen
instructions.
If you reinstall Tropimed, your personal and corporate
documents and settings will be restored.
- Uninstall Tropimed completely –
(full uninstall)
Access the installation folder Tropimed_TN and run the file
uninstallFull.bat as administrator. Follow the onscreen
instructions.
Attention: Your personal and corporate documents and
settings (logo, header, mail server, etc.. ) will be permanently
deleted and cannot be restored.
ADDITIONAL CONFIGURATION FOR WINDOWS XP
Tropimed does not work with Windows XP after a standard installation
This can happen if you do a standard install and you use Tropimed with a "non admin" session.
Cause
Contrary to expectations, Windows XP does not let the application write data in the installation
folder.
RESOLUTION
Solution 1 :
Assign "Full Control" permissions on the folder :
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\tropimed

1. Log into Windows with an administrator account

2. Open the explorer and find the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents
3. Right click on the folder Tropimed and select Properties [Fig. 5]
4. Click on the tab Security and then on the username Everyone
Remark
If you don’t have Everyone as an option in the users list, you will
have to add it. :
 Click on Add, Input Everyone and click on Check Names. The
name Everyone needs to be undescored.
 Then click on OK. [Fig. 6]

5. Select Allow on Full Control and click on Apply [Fig. 7]

You can now use the application with a non administrator user account.

Solution 2 : Run the application as administrator
This solution is only temporary and requires you to repeat it each time you run the application.
1. Right click on Tropimed’s Icon on your Desktop and select "Run as"
2. Provide the credentials for an administrator account
