Class of 2008: Bachelor Degree Graduates
(December 2007, May 2008, and July 2008 Graduates)
Questions about the report may be directed to the Career Services Office
Beth Dolder-Zieke, Director
Anne Ellefson, Career Specialist
(608) 796-3828
The overall placement rate for the class of 2008 is 99%.
This placement rate reflects the percentages of 2008 graduates who received a bachelor’s
degree and report that their primary activity is enrollment in graduate/professional school or
other continuing education; service in a branch of the armed forces; participation in volunteer
service, such as AmeriCorps or the Peace Corps; or employment, either on a full-time or
part-time basis in or out of their fields of study.
All percentages in this report are based on the total number of graduates reporting, not the
total number of graduates. The 2008 alumni reporting they are currently not working and not
seeking employment are not included in the placement tabulations. In addition, percentages
above and below .5% have been have been rounded to the nearest whole number.
A total of 383 students were listed on the registrar’s official graduation lists as of October 15,
2008. Fifteen of these students earned two majors, resulting in 398 majors/degrees being
conferred. Information was gathered about 92% of these graduates.

Definition of Terms/Explanations of Calculations
1. The “total reporting” category refers to graduates about whom data was gathered
from sources deemed to be reliable sources by Career Services staff members. Those
sources include information obtained via forms completed by graduates, telephone calls
to the graduate or his/her family members, emails from the graduate, and information
from professors and other personnel who have remained in contact with the student.
2. The “not seeking” category includes people who report they are not a part of the work
force nor continuing their educations but are not seeking employment at this time.
3. “Total placed overall” refers to those individuals in the designated major about whom
data was collected and who indicated they were employed either on a full-time or parttime basis in or out of their fields of study, enlisted in a branch of the armed forces,
participating in volunteer service (e.g., AmeriCorps, Peace Corps) and/or enrolled in
graduate/professional school or other continuing education.
4. The “placed in field” category includes individuals who are employed in their field of
study, attending graduate/ professional school or other continuing education, enlisted in
one of the branches of the armed forces, or participating in a volunteer service
experience, such as VISTA.
5. “Employed in field” includes individuals who report being required to complete their
majors for their current employment positions or whose work requires a college degree
and/or utilizes the knowledge/skills acquired during their college educations. Graduates
with double majors who are working in fields related to one of their majors are listed as
“employed in field” for their respective listings in both majors. Calculations for
percentages in this category consider the total number of majors employed in their fields
and the total number of majors reporting, minus those who indicated they were not
seeking employment at this time.
6. Individuals listed in the “military” columns are those who report their primary activity is
in a branch of the armed forces. Percentage calculations are based on the number of
majors reporting, minus those who indicated they were not seeking employment at this
time. These individuals are also included in the “placed in field” category.
7. The “Volunteer service” category includes individuals who report their primary activity
is in a volunteer or service organization, such as AmeriCorps.
8. The “graduate/professional school” category lists individuals who report that their
primary activity is attending a graduate or professional program. Percentage calculations
are based on the number of majors reporting, excluding those who indicated they were
not seeking employment at this time.
2
9. The “other continuing education” category includes individuals who report their primary
activity is furthering their educations at a non-graduate level. Percentage calculations are
based on the number of majors reporting, minus those who indicated they were not
seeking employment at this time.
10. The “employed out of field” category includes individuals who report working in
positions that do not require a bachelor’s degree and/or positions that do not use the
skills/knowledge they gained from their programs or majors. Calculations for
percentages in this category consider the total number of majors who report being
employed outside their fields and the total number of majors reporting, minus those who
indicated they were not employed and not seeking employment at this time.
11. The “available/seeking” category includes graduates who report they are not employed
and are actively seeking employment. Percentage calculations are based on the number
of majors who reported and indicated they were currently seeking employment and the
total number of majors who reported, excluding those not working/not seeking
employment.
