Panama Canal Cruise Vacation
April 10 - 26, 2016
Featuring: Cabos San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta,. Guatemala, Costa Rica, Curacao, and
the magnificent Panama Canal
This is an exclusive travel program presented by InterTrav Corporation
Vacation Itinerary
Sun., Apr. 10 – HOME TOWN/TEMECULA
Today depart your Old Second Bank location to begin our
Panama Canal Cruise vacation. We will fly from Chicago
to San Diego, where we’ll be welcomed by the warm
coastal weather and our waiting motor coach. A delightful
drive brings us to the beautiful town of Temecula
surrounded by picturesque wine country. This evening we
enjoy wine tasting and dinner. (D)
Mon., Apr. 11 – TEMECULA/CRUISING
We enjoy a morning at leisure before we board our motor
coach for our return to San Diego. This afternoon we are
headed to the Port of San Diego for embarkation aboard
Celebrity Cruises Infinity. From the moment we depart
San Diego, you know this will be a vacation to treasure
forever. The Panama Canal is the centerpiece, of course,
but treasures abound on both sides. In addition, a wide
variety of shipboard activities and new friendships all
combine to welcome us to the cruising experience. And
don’t forget the sunny skies, warm tropical breezes,
inviting turquoise waters lapping against tempting white
sand beaches combined with fantastic ports of call that
will make our adventure unforgettable! (I,D)
PORTS OF CALL
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico: Situated at the ver y tip of
the world’s longest peninsula, Cabo San Lucas calmly
watches the cool Pacific Ocean merge with the Sea of
Cortez. Maybe best known for its spectacular rock
formations at Land’s End, keep an eye out for sea lions,
pelicans and migrating whales. Once you experience its
crystal-clear waters and white-sand beaches, you’ll understand why this once-sleepy Baja cannery village
transformed into a popular international resort.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta squeezed into the thin space between
Banderas Bay and the verdant folds of the Sierra Madre.
It's no longer the well-kept secret of the artists, writers and
Hollywood stars who first "discovered" it in the 1960s, but
"PV" (as it is affectionately known) still retains the
essence of the fishing village it once was. Viejo Vallarta,
the old town, is a mix of red-tiled buildings, cobbled
streets, chic shops and busy open markets. Other
highlights include Mismaloya Beach, Gringo Gulch, and
Conchas Chinas, the Beverly Hills of Vallarta. Head
inland for more adventure, up into the rugged canyons and
luxuriant jungles of the mountains.
Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala
Guatemala is located in the northernmost part of Central
America and is one of the largest countries in this region. It boasts 37 volcanoes, a rich Mayan heritage, Lake
Atitlan and one of the best-preserved colonial cities in Antigua. The charming port city of Puerto Quetzal on the
Pacific coast of Guatemala is home to the beautiful,
iridescent Quetzal bird, which was sacred to the Mayan
civilization that once ruled over this land. In the second
half of the 20th century, Guatemala experienced a 36-year
guerrilla war. These issues are now in the past and today

Guatemala is a thriving democracy with a developing
tourism trade waiting to be fully discovered.
Puntarenas, Costa Rica
It's hard to throw a stick in Costa Rica and not have it hit
a national park. The city of Puntarenas, on Costa
Rica's Pacific coast, has a number of them within easy
reach for cruise visitors. Just to the south, Carara is a
mecca for birders, especially those chasing the scarlet
macaw. Poas Volcano is inland, and rises to nearly 9,000
feet. See it before it blows again. Barra Honda contains a
series of limestone caves. Palo Verde preserves one of the
last tropical dry rainforests in Central America. Arenal
has the most active volcano in the country. Tapanti
contains species of orchids only just discovered in 2009.
Grab your hiking boots and a pair of binoculars.
Panama Canal Cruising: One of the great engineer ing
feats of the 20th century, the Panama Canal accomplished
what nature forgot to do, it connected the Atlantic to the
Pacific, and reduced the 12,000 mile sailing distance
between New York and San Francisco by more than
7,000 miles. Without question, the best way to
experience this magnificent wonder is from the deck of a
transiting ship. From this privileged vantage point you
get an incomparable perspective while passing through
the canal’s three sets of locks. Nearly every hard-won
mile carved through the jungle here carries a story - of
rivers dammed, gigantic lakes dug; of malaria, misery and
miraculous powers of will.
Willemstad, Curacao: Decidedly Dutch, with a channel
that cuts through town like an Amsterdam canal. Here
you’ll find colorful gabled architecture, floating markets,
and the island’s famous orange
flavored liqueur.
Curaçao is the largest of the six islands that comprise the
Netherlands Antilles. It gained autonomy from the
Netherlands in 1954, but the Dutch influence is still very
visible in Willemstad’s architecture and culture. With the
growth of the oil industry in Curaçao in the early 20th
century, workers and their families came to the island
from more than 50 countries, providing a varied and
vibrant population. Everyone should experience the
sights, sounds and energy of this unique destination.
Tues., Apr. 26 – MIAMI/HOME TOWN
This morning Miami’s picturesque coastline signals an
end to our Panama Canal Cruise Vacation. Following
disembarkation, a short transfer brings us to Miami’s
International Airport in preparation for our return journey
home. On arrival in Chicago we transfer to our Old
Second Bank location. (B)
