IN THE NEWS Maserati Trofeo World Series Round 4 at Virginia International Raceway The fourth round of the Maserati Trofeo World Series went down at the Virginia International Raceway where Romain Monti extended his championship lead after winning Race 1 and finishing Race 2 in second place. Despite carrying an extra 50 kg in his car as per the regulations, the Frenchman proved his competence and forced his way up from sixth place – where he started – to flashing across the finish line in first place. Second place in Race 1 went to Lino Curti who had led for most part of the race until he made a critical error on lap 15. The Italian spun his car on the grass rendering his lead vulnerable, Monti grabbed the opportunity and went for the win. Adrien De Leener showed incredible performance after starting from tenth but finishing in third place on the podium. Guy Cosmo was unlucky after making a false start despite starting from second place, he was given a drive-through penalty for that error. Freddie Hunt, son of the 1976 F1 world champion James Hunt had started the race from pole but a transmission problem saw him drop down to seventh place. Elsewhere in the race, Giuseppe Fascicolo took fourth place ahead of Carlo Curti. Riccardo Ragazzi who is Monti’s closest rival in the championship finished the race further down in sixth place. Reflecting about his race, Monti said, “It was not an easy win. It was my first time at this venue and I was also limited by the extra 50kg I was carrying. My aim was to make as few mistakes as possible and to try to stay on the track; this turned out to be the winning formula. I will still have the extra weight tomorrow and, with today’s finishing positions being inverted, I will have a few drivers to overtake. This will make things even tougher” For more information contact Craig Forbes (678) 802-5000 [email protected] August 28th, 2015 Race 2 was filled with incidents as many drivers veered off the track, it was Giuseppe Fascicolo who crossed the finish line first ahead of Monti and Alessandro Iazzetti. It was the first Maserati Trofeo win for Fascicolo and the best finish ever for Lazzetti. Monti’s second place finish despite the extra weight saw him extend his lead over Ragazzi to 46 points. Fourth place went to Carlo Curti who had made contact with American Tom Long on lap 11, Long suffered a puncture. Patrick Byrne took fifth overall ahead of Ragazzi who finished in the same position as Race 1. The race was suspended a number of times due to various incidents including that of Mauro Trentin who had made contact with Richard Denny on lap 9. There was a Maserati GTS MC which was taking part in the race as part of a development program ahead of its launch in the Pirelli World Championship on September 13. Meanwhile, Round 5 of the Maserati Trofeo World Series will head over to Japan on 25 October at the Suzuka Circuit. The tuner’s modifications for the Italian sedan are purely cosmetic but still very noteworthy. At the front, G&S Exclusive has developed a carbon fiber front grille. A carbon roof can also been fitted alongside carbon wing mirrors, door handles, window surrounds and fender strips. Additionally, a bespoke front splitter is available alongside customized side sills. Also notable are the wheels. This particular Maserati Ghibli features three-piece OZ lightweight wheels measuring 21-inch at all four corners and complemented with 30 mm aluminum spacers. Christian Bale is reported by Deadline to be lined up to portray Enzo Ferrari in another biopic about the legendary race team owner and automaker. We put race team owner first, because that was Enzo's largest passion over the course of his 90-year life. Previously, it was Robert De Niro making headlines over an Enzo Ferrari biopic. This picture has been in the works for decades now. Enzo himself died in 1988, and a movie about his life has been a Hollywood dream ever since. For a long time, it was set to be a passion project of director Sydney Pollack but the legendary director passed away before that could come to be. Now it's in the hands of Michael Mann. It seems the film will take place around the year 1957, which is instantly dramatic to those who know their motorsports history. Ferrari was well established at this time as producing world-beating racing cars. The disaster at Le Mans occurred two years prior, but another disaster was set to occur a bit closer to home. A Ferrari 335S lost a tire while running the Mille Miglia. This sent the car into the crowd, killing both the driver and passenger along with nine spectators. Enzo Ferrari, along with the company that produced the tire, were charged and tried with manslaughter. The case was ultimately dismissed four years later. Looking back at the roles that Bale has played, we see no issues with him transforming into Ferrari's Father. His range and skill as an actor should definitely bring a bit of Enzo's story to life. A release for Bale’s film is yet to be confirmed, but De Niro has hinted that his own, tipped to be directed by Clint Eastwood, will hit theaters sometime next year. He used to be the front man for Van Halen. Former Rock ’n ’roll legend Sammy “Red Rocker" Hagar is no stranger to owning Ferraris. Hagar has one of the greatest collections of Ferraris in the world and has owned the automaker’s vehicles since the 1970s. After a year-long wait, Hagar was finally able to get into a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari in Mill Valley, CA. Only 499 examples of the LaFerrari will be sold, which makes getting into Ferrari’s most powerful vehicle ever built a privilege for an ultra-exclusive list of individuals. Hagar’s selection of Ferraris includes a customized 599 GTB Fiorano, 400i automatic coupe, Daytona, 456 2+2 and 512 BBi. His most recent addition, the LaFerrari, required a trip to Maranello, Italy, for custom fitting as the hypercar is built to spec for its owner. The LaFerrari set Hagar back by a whopping $1.4 million and despite owning a ton of Ferraris it still manages to give him a thrill. “Sitting in it intimidates me. This car scared me. When I started this car, you probably couldn’t see, but I got goose bumps on my arms." Apparently, the ordeal to get into a LaFerrari was so difficult that Hagar plans to make a film about the journey. One name that had been floated was Jodie Kidd, but the professional model turned television personality and car collector recently confirmed that she would not be joining the world’s most popular car show. If she had, she would have joined Chris Evans, the popular radio host who recently signed on to fill one of the positions left open by the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. “If I were to accept Top Gear it would be completely all-consuming,” Kidd told The Telegraph. “I love doing all the different things I am doing in my life at the moment. Top Gear is the most brilliant show on this planet but it would just take over your soul. That would be it. Through ups and downs and lefts and rights I have got to an amazing place where everything is finally balanced and balanced for my family too.” Kidd, who currently hosts The Classic Car Show, said there were “conversations” about her joining Top Gear, but didn’t elaborate much beyond that. She was recently spotted having lunch with Evans, which further stoked rumors that she might be joining the show, but said the occasion was nothing more than two old friends catching up over a drink. The industry is talking about a possible Ferrari Dino revival in the near future, a more affordable model in the brand’s line-up, if anything from the Italians can be called ‘affordable.' According to CAR Magazine, things are bound to get bulky under the bonnet. Remember the Alfa Romeo Giulia and its Quadrifoglio Verde version? Well, that car uses a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 to get around, and it was developed with the help of Ferrari’s engineers. That being said, the British publication claims that the upcoming Dino will use the same mill but with some added oomph. There would be two versions of the engine available: a 450 HP unit and a 600 HP one that would make it the new world-record holder for the most powerful production engine in horsepower output per liter. Of course, this would all be to obey the new rules the EU is imposing on all manufacturers but we’re not disappointed a bit in these rumored specs. As a matter of fact, turbocharged mills are no stranger to the prancing horse badge. This mill would then be used to power a couple of different Ferraris shortly. The 2.9-liter displacement was chosen to allow customers to deal with taxes a little easier as some markets charge people depending on the size of their engine, the most notable example being China. However, if you can afford to buy a Ferrari, it’s highly unlikely that you can’t afford to pay the taxes or insurance for it. As for the design of the car, expect it to be a two-seater of more compact size than the current 488 GTB. The chassis and underpinnings should be of the lightest construction possible, heavy usage of aluminum being mentioned numerous times. All of this may seem like hearsay but Fiat Chrysler’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne has recently confirmed that the Dino project is still under development. Therefore, it is all a matter of time now until we get to see what they have been working on. Some may say that if it weren’t for their passion for the Prancing Horse, they never left the town. Phil, a passionate mechanic who has been running a car shop for most of his life, has assembled an impressive collection of Ferraris over the last 30 years. Sure, like any other car-fanatic of the type, he started off with the likes of Corvettes, Pontiacs, and little British cars. He opened the shop in 1967, but it was only in 1983 when he’d discover the Italian exotic. The first was a 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole, and here’s the story around it: “The car struck a chord with me, so I ordered one in 1984 through the Ferrari dealer in Nashville. I wanted a yellow one because I thought there were too many red ones; I wanted to be different. I ‘tricked’ it as much as I could at that time by ordering the black ‘Boxer bottom’ and the Euro front spoiler,” the collector told Forza Mag. Several other exotics followed, with a rate of an approximately one new car per year. Two things remained constant with Bachman’s car shopping: he likes them yellow, and preferably the last example of their kind built. In terms of favorites, the Ferrari collector admits it is difficult to opt for one, but he did mention 1967 275 GTB/4, 1975 365 GT4 BB, and 2003 Enzo. He also owns a Ferrari FXX, which we all know, was offered to elite Ferrari collectors in 2005. The good part is that he’s also driving it full gear, having had the chance to hit the F1 race tracks worldwide throughout the years.( UNGUREANU) https://vimeo.com/104468044 For more information contact Craig Forbes (678) 802-5000 [email protected] August 28th, 2015 Happy Birthday, Christine Google executive Benjamin Sloss presents his wife with a stunning FXX K Maranello, 28 August 2015 – Since he bought the 599 XX auctioned to raise funds in the wake of the Emilia earthquake disaster in 2012, we’ve all known that Benjamin Sloss is a very generous guy. But now he’s proved his big-heartedness once again by presenting his wife, Christine, with a truly unique birthday gift. Ben told Christine he would be bringing her to Fiorano to do a little lapping in their 599 XX as a birthday treat. And he did just that. But that was far from all he had planned. In fact, when they arrived at the track, Christine found a beautiful FXX K, clothed, like all their Ferraris in a yellow livery, waiting for her. Naturally enough Christine, who is also a real petrolhead and fine GT driver, lost no time in getting into her racing suit and putting her latest acquisition through its paces on the track. Christine found the FXX K incredibly communicative, responsive, and confidence inspiring, and extraordinarily fast. After just a few laps she was running 1’20”, with a passenger on board, very close to the Fiorano FXX K lap record! The three biggest auction sales are all Ferraris, including a 1964 250LM for $17.6 million USD ; a 1961 250 GT California SWB Spider with closed headlights for $16.83 million USD; and a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Speciale for $16.5 million USD. Also of great significance, a 1956 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione Tour de France sold for $13.2 million USD; while a 1957 410 Superamerica Series II Coupe sold for $5.09 million USD. Ferrari Honored At Pebble Beach Pebble Beach, 17 August – It was an extraordinary day at the 65th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, considering the coastline’s reputation for thick morning fog and chilly temperatures: it was clear skies from dawn and temperatures near 30 C! The field of competitors on the Concours lawn was just as spectacular, including more than forty Ferraris in four special classes created for this year’s Honored Marque, including Ferrari Grand Touring; Ferrari Competition; Ferrari in the Pebble Beach Road Races; and Ferrari Preservation. As tradition dictates, Ferraris from past and present delighted the crowds at the First Tee at the Pebble Beach Links. A Ferrari California T in unique Tailor Made livery — Rosso Ferrari 53 –- set the stage. It was flanked an F12berlinetta draped in Argento Nurburgring and, in Giallo Modena, the star of Monterey Car Week this year, the 488 GTB. Not to be outdone, the adjacent stage featured the few-off limited-edition Sergio, dedicated of course to design icon Sergio Pininfarina; and last year’s Best In Show winner, the 1954 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe. Scuderia Corsa Ferrari take GTD at VIR Danville, 23 August - At one of North America’s most challenging circuits, a Ferrari 458 Italia stood atop the IMSA United SportsCar Championship’s GT-Daytona podium following Sunday afternoon’s Oak Tree Grand Prix at Virginia International Raceway. The win. Unique for the USCC, the Oak Tree Grand Prix featured the GT classes of IMSA’s premier championship. In dominant fashion, Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler drove the no. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia to their first victory of the season. The Ferrari, which was qualified in third position by Sweedler, took over the lead on the 15th lap of the two hour and forty-five minute race and never relinquished it. It was the thirteenth win for the Ferrari 458 Italia in North American endurance racing. The victory propels Ferrari back to the lead in the GT-Daytona manufacturer’s standings, while Bell and Sweedler now sit second in the GT-Daytona driver’s standings with two races remaining in the season championship. GT-Le Mans. There was plenty more for Ferrari fans to celebrate. In the GT-Le Mans class, drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer scored their fourth podium of the season in yet another race with a dramatic battle in the closing stages. The Ferrari stayed in podium position throughout the race, with Kaffer narrowly stealing second position on the final lap of the race. The duo had scored the victory at last year’s Oak Tree Grand Prix in the Risi Competizione Ferrari. One of the biggest reasons for this trend is the dual-clutch transmission (DCT), which not only shifts faster than any driver on a manual could but is also more efficient. This video from YouTube user Thomas Schwenke provides a good overview of the inner workings of a DCT. As the video explains, the DCT works in similar fashion to a manual transmission except that there are two separate gear sets and the shifting is computer controlled. The two gear sets are normally arranged between odd and even gearing. The two clutches, hence the name dualclutch transmission, are arranged where the odd-numbered gears use an outer clutch pack, while the inner clutch pack works the even-numbered gears. This allows both clutches to engage the input shaft. Starting out in first, the outer clutch will be engaged, while the inner clutch will be disengaged with second gear selected via a dog gear. Shifting from first to second gear, the transmission will disengage the outer clutch and engage the inner clutch. The results are quicker shift times that cannot be accomplished with a conventional manual gearbox. It’s little wonder that this transmission design is slowing becoming the exclusive option on many performance cars.( Viknesh Vijayenthiran) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-oULh0I3iA For more information contact Craig Forbes (678) 802-5000 [email protected] August 28th, 2015 GADGETS GOOGLE ONHUB WIRELESS ROUTER Tech giants Google have presented the OnHub, a wireless router! How about morning Sex on the Beach...and happy hour Margaritas...and night cap Martinis from the same tiny capsules? With an automated, countertop-sized bartender to mix and pour them all for you? The forthcoming Bartesian is your adult beverage coffee maker; a machine that stores 4 types of hard alcohol and mixes them into an array of perfect, consistent, oncall cocktails with the insertion of a pod and press of a button. To capitalize on your personal bartender with a plug, fill Bartesian with cocktail base mainstays: gin; rum; vodka; and tequila. The juices, bitters, and liqueurs that round out the machine's repertoire come in marked capsules (as real liquids, not powderized imposters made in a chem lab). Grab the one marked with your cocktail of choice and insert it in the cup holder at the top. Bartesian recognizes the capsule as a Cosmo or Sex on the Beach or whatever your lady friend is giggling and oooohing that she wants to try and gives a prompt for the type of glass it needs you to place under its spout (e.g., lowball with ice). Then select the strength of drink you'd like, from Virgin to Double Shot. Step back. Let your Bartesian work his magic. At printing, Bartesian was available for pre-order, with an anticipated ship date of April 2016. The initial release will include the cocktail machine and a 12-pack of capsules able to mix 6 different drinks. Bartesian will continue to build its cocktail library, but is starting out with 3 classics and 3 signature drinks. They include: Zest Martini; Cosmopolitan; Sex on the Beach; Margarita; Bartesian Breeze; and Uptown Rocks. $299 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmgDsOVwnZk For more information contact Craig Forbes (678) 802-5000 [email protected] August 28th, 2015 Hydro-Turf Oil Extractor 6-Liter OIL01 Getting ready for summer means getting ready to haul out your boat. Your jet ski. Your ATV. Your Ducati. Your pimp-mo-convertible. And your Hydro-Turf Oil Extractor to change their oil. While the company's contraption looks a little like a fitness/torture device, its actual duty is to suck out up to 6 liters (1.57 gallons) of old oil from engines to make the DIY changing process a simple one. Reviewers are generally in agreement that it performs this task respectably, even on larger recreational toys and cars. According to Hydro-Turf, several strokes of the Oil Extractor's pump will create a vacuum strong enough to "neatly capture" a vat of oil in its container. While one reviewer noted that when he tried out the device on a car using 7 liters of 5w-30 synthetic oil it took 4 hours to extract the oil, others were quick to point out that the oil needs to be heated (i.e., from driving the car) for the Extractor to work efficiently. Another Hydro-Turf owner included his own step-by-step oil change process on his 2010 VW Jetta. He drove his car "until it reached normal temp (not the 5 minutes suggested in instructions)", inserted the extractor hose into the dipstick tube, and began pumping. From start to finish, including refilling with new oil, replacing the filter and dipstick, and cleaning the Extractor, he says the oil change took no more than 20 minutes.Oil changes are now a snap, Several strokes of the pump create a vacuum that neatly captures up to 6 liters (1.57 gal.) in the sturdy container. Pour spout is included to help empty container. Pump is removable for easy storage Works great for snowmobiles, boats, personal watercraft, cars, motorcycles, ATVs and more. $53 at Amazon.com For more information contact Craig Forbes (678) 802-5000 [email protected] August 28th, 2015 EVENTS Ferrari of Atlanta and FCA Coppa Alpina 2015 PROGRAM The following is the indicative program of events for the 2015 Coppa Alpina.
