Mrs Hart Headship Lead on Literacy Classical Music Night - Tuesday 18 March, Conservative Club, South Norwood Hill at 8 p.m Music by Mozart, Spohr , Glazunov , a poetry reading and maybe an Irish ditty! Free in, or tickets available from Fiona, Shaun or Gerry for £3.50 which includes one free drink. Relaxed atmosphere, lovely sociable audience and good beer! 2 3 SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL ASPECTS OF LEARNING The personal and social learning focus for the whole school in assembly and in the classrooms this week was “Understanding uncomfortable feelings". Children were awarded SEAL certificates and invited to Head-teacher's tea party for explaining something that has made them feel jealous, (guilty or embarrassed). Poplar class were finally ousted from the top spot in the race for the Mathletics trophy. Larch and Holly classes finished the week neck and neck with 9 certificates each. They will each have the Super Mathlete trophy for 2 and a half days. I am delighted to announce that this year, 3 of our swimming gala entrants, have made it through to the finals of the borough-wide primary 1. 1 tbsp tarragon or cider vinegar 2. 2 tsp Dijon mustard 3. 2 tbsp olive oil 4. 2 tbsp. rape seed oil 5. 1 tsp honey 6. flaked sea salt and freshly ground black pepper Congratulations and best of luck to the following children who will be competing in the events listed below: Oliver (Rowan class) Freestyle Year 4 Boys Imogen (Rowan class) Freestyle Year 4 Girls Alexandra (Larch class) Freestyle Year 6 Girls Alexandra (Larch class) Butterfly Year 6 Girls. 7. 900g/2lb new potatoes, such as Jersey Royals or Charlotte, washed or scrubbed The final takes place next Thursday at 7pm at Trinity School, Shirley. I will update you on how the children progressed next week. 8. 1 tbsp chopped fresh tarragon leaves 9. 1 large shallot, finely chopped 2 tbsp chopped cornichons or gherkins (optional) Method Place the vinegar, mustard, oils, honey and salt and pepper in a screw-top jar or in the bowl of a small hand blender. Shake or blend well until creamy. Add more seasoning if preferred. Cook the potatoes in boiling salted water for about 15-20 minutes until just tender. Drain well and, when just cool enough to handle, cut into halves or quarters, if quite large. Place the potatoes in a mixing bowl with the tarragon, shallots, cornichons or gherkins and toss in as much or as little of the dressing as you want. Serve just warm or, if you're not eating straight away, refrigerate and return the salad to room temperature before eating. Enjoy!!! school swimming gala. Sports Relief 21 -23 March I am sure many of you have been following Davina McCall's exploits in awe this week as she has run, swam and cycled from Edinburgh to London in aid of Sports Relief. As a school, we will be participating in our own sporting challenge to raise money for this worthy cause. Children and teaching teams will be running, jogging or walk/jogging a mile around the infant school grounds. Parents and carers will be asked to contribute £1 or more in support. Dulwich Youth Orchestra 2014 Established for more than forty years, DYO offers exciting opportunities for musicians aged 7 to 18 from grade 2 to 8+. It meets each school holiday for five mornings and divides into:· Junior String Ensemble · Concert Band · Symphony Orchestra · Senior String Orchestra There are opportunities for the more experienced and regular attendees to perform a concerto. Generous bursaries are also available.
