2015 ANNUAL REPORT ’ The McShin Foundation s mission is to deliver a message of hope to recovering addicts and alcoholics and to facilitate their journey . to a healthier life ’ - , full-service Recovery Community Organization. Nearly In 2015 seventy new participants entered our program this year and we . provided over one thousand indigent bed nights . We hosted and participated in many events in 2015 as well , 11th Annual Spring Awards Banquet, 11th Annual Golf Tournament, 5th Annual Celebrations such as the 5th Annual Bluegrass Festival Alumni Picnic and 11th Annual Recovery Fest are only some of the great opportunities we had to applaud the achievements of those in . recovery This year also saw momentous events such as the Unite To Face . . and the foundation's participation in the documentary, Heroin: The Hardest Hit. Addiction Rally in Washington D C , supporters, and partners have done this year that made our work possible. We couldn’t do it without you! We would like to thank all that our donors 2015 Financials Recovery is an essential life change for those suffering from . We Substance Use Disorder at McShin heal families and save , but we could not do this lives without the help and support of . our many donors - McShin receives in kind contributions including food for events and administrative office . THE MCSHIN FOUNDATION 2015 CHANGING THE CONVERSATION Unite To Face Addiction Rally , the Unite To Face Addiction Rally took place on the National Mall in Washington D.C. in an effort to change the conversation surrounding addiction in America. On October 4th A group from The McShin Foundation joined tens of thousands of others . This marked the beginning of changing the conversation from problems to the solutions for addiction, an issue that affects one in three households in America. The solutions presented emphasized prevention, early intervention, treatment and recovery. standing up for recovery , the Surgeon General announced the country’s first ever report on addiction. In addition, the rally featured performances by Joe Walsh, Steven Tyler, Sheryl Crow, The Fray, Jason Isbell, Aloe Blacc and John Rzeznik. At the event RAISING AWARENESS HEROIN: THE HARDEST HIT , Attorney General Mark R. Herring presented Heroin: The As 2015 neared its close Hardest Hit in order to address the heroin and prescription drug epidemic and its . effects on Virginians The film includes individuals sharing , testimonies their own stories of addiction from parents who lost their children to an , and insights from overdose law enforcement and public health professionals who are working to address . the crisis The McShin Foundation was featured in - the film as a non profit recovery community organization in the Richmond To request a free copy of the documentary, visit the Attorney General’s website at http://ag.virginia.gov/index. php/hardesthit , with several members of the area foundation offering their personal stories . of addiction and recovery The documentary will air locally on NBC , 2016 at 7 pm. on January 23rd REVERSE OPIOID OVERDOSES NASAL NALOXONE TRAINING ! Nasal The McShin Foundation hosts REVIVE Naloxone training to educate . Naloxone is used to revive an individual from an opioid overdose. participants on this method of harm reduction , a prescription medication, is an opioid antagonist drug that reverses the effects that opioids have in the brain. This allows a person’s body to resume respiration. It has been used for years by emergency medical Naloxone technicians and emergency medical doctors and is now being brought to the . community We want to help our community as much as we can and prevent overdoses , so these training events are free and open to the public. and deaths , 134 individuals participated in Nasal Naloxone training hosted at The McShin Foundation. In 2015 HEALING FAMILIES, SAVING LIVES FAMILIES 4 RECOVERY Families 4 Recovery is committed to delivering recovery support services . to families and youth in their fight against the disease of addiction Our purpose is to work to eliminate the shame and stigma of addiction and to create awareness of the disease of addiction and the support available to . We also work with other community organizations to develop and deliver family solutions and support. families and youth , Families 4 Recovery can help by providing education for the families , treatment programs and costs, and helping families navigate the insurance process. We offer support to offering resources on treatment facilities parents through our network of experienced peer to peer volunteers while . providing tools for navigating the dangers of substance abuse PEER TO PEER SUPPORT RECOVERY COACH TRAINING , The McShin Foundation continued offering authentic peer recovery coaching and peer leadership training courses. These courses reflect the foundation’s ideology of one addict helping another. In 2015 The training course covers the history addiction treatment and . White’s Slaying the recovery through discussion of William L Dragon and the Recovery Coach Manual written by John . Daniel Payne. Recovery coaches will engage in peer to peer support through their own knowledge and expertise. Shinholser and J - certificate will be awarded for 16 hours of training (can be accumulated). The CEUs earned through the course will be accepted through the NAADAC Certification Commission. The two day courses are offered monthly and a peer coaching The Recovery Coach Manual is available for a free download on ’ . the foundation s website , over 500 individuals became certified recovery coaches through this course. In 2015 JAIL PROGRAMS RECOVERY SUPPORT SERVICES , 2015 The McShin Foundation began an authentic peer On January 5th developed and delivered recovery oriented system of care for those inmates volunteering as individuals needing recovery from substance . use disorders in Pamunkey Regional Jail , The 26 week curriculum for the program includes guest speakers , family and court advocate services, meetings, and assistance with transitioning and aftercare. recovery and morale related films The McShin Foundation provides recovery support services at , Richmond City Justice Center, Henrico County Regional East Jail, and Peumansend Creek Regional Jail. Pamunkey Regional Jail THE MCSHIN FOOTPRINT SPREADING OUR MESSAGE NATIONWIDE The McShin Foundation reaches out to , spreading the message communities nationwide .
