Colonel Raoul MONORY, born in 1886 in Thouars (Deux Sevres), Officer of the Legion of Honor. He went at the military school as a gunner and instructor at Saumur, where he had Charles de Gaulle as a student. He started taking watercolor classes after the first World War. He then worked with the Breton artist Jean Gobaille (1895-1969). He met DINET Etienne (1861-1929) at Fontainebleau before going to Algiers, the city where they lived several years. Etienne DINET advised and influenced Raoul MONORY on his practice and they had the opportunity to share some works.
