OUR SCHOOL History In 1890, the Hong Kong Government set up the Central School for Girls. When Mr. E.R. Belilios, a Jewish philanthropist, donated $25,000 for a new building for the Central School for Girls in 1893, a 3‐storey building was erected in Hollywood Road and named after Mr. Belilios. In April 1965, the school was relocated to its present premises in Tin Hau Temple Road. To mark the occasion, a new school motto ‐ “Climb High, See Wide”, a school song and a new school badge were created. School Management Committee (SMC) Since the implementation of school‐based management in 1989, school has been given more autonomy in personnel, financial and other day‐to‐day administrative matters. Under the leadership of Ms LI Mei‐fun, PEO(HK) and Mr. LEE Sha‐lun, Sheridan, PEO(CD)1, the SMC met three times during the school year. Members took an active part at the meetings, demonstrating excellent collaboration and partnership among all stakeholders. SMC members for 2014/2015 were: Ms LI Mei‐fun (Chairperson) until 30 April 2015 Mr. LEE Sha‐lun, Sheridan (Chairperson) w.e.f 1 May 2015 Mr. CHAN Tsze‐ying (Principal & Treasurer) Ms WONG Yueh‐kwang (PTA representative) Mr. JAO Ming Raymond (PTA representative) Ms CHAN Siu‐ha, Joyce (Alumnae representative) Ms LO Wai‐ching (Alumnae representative) Mr. YAO Wan‐lung, Albert (Independent member) Mr. WONG Hung‐kee, Stephen (Independent member) Mrs. LAM CHENG Lai‐lai (Teacher representative) Ms LAU Man‐sze, Candy (Teacher representative) Composition of stakeholders in the SMC Member 2012/2013 2013/2014 2014/2015 Sponsoring Body Principal Parent Teacher Alumnae Independent

School Development Committee (SDC) The committee was set up to formulate school policies, to strengthen communication, to address staff concerns, to motivate teachers professionally and to facilitate their participation through decision‐making. Chaired by Mr. CHAN Tsze‐ying (Principal), the team included Mrs. LAU LEUNG Yvetta Ruth (Assistant Principal), Mrs. YEUNG KWONG Mong‐ha (Assistant Principal), Mrs. LAM CHENG Lai‐lai, Ms LAU Man‐sze, Candy, Ms WOO Man‐fung, Victoria, Ms CHAN Sau‐fong, Mr. LAM Man‐tak, Mr. LOO Ka‐wah, Mr. SHUEN Ting‐fai, Ms TANG Shuk‐man, Ms TO Man‐ying, Tammy and Ms WONG Wai‐ling . Regular meetings were conducted in an open and harmonious atmosphere. Matters discussed included school self‐evaluation, school development, academic promotion, student affairs and staff concerns. The SDC has proved to be an effective channel of communication between the management and staff. Shared decision‐making has fostered a greater sense of ownership and team spirit. School Facilities In the past few years, renovation projects have been under way in order to enhance the school environment and to meet the needs of the NSS. The reconstruction of classrooms, the upgrade of laboratory and special rooms, the resurfacing of playgrounds and the provision of additional storage space all bear witness to our conviction in creating a facilitative environment for learning and teaching. Teachers were inspired by his information and materials. The First Staff Development Day had two sessions. In the first session, it was a talk by Mr. KONG Yiu‐wah, Chris, who is a social worker, restorative justice conference facilitator and trainer. The programme was required by the QEF Thematic Network on Student Support as BPS was a partner school. After lunch, Professor SHEN Xu‐hui, Simon gave a talk on the Umbrella Movement. Feedback from colleagues was positive to the aforementioned programmes. On the Second Staff Development Day, colleagues went for a guided tour at Global Geopark of China and were introduced the features of the High Island Geo Trail. After the walk, colleagues enjoyed a plenteous lunch in a local Sai Kung restaurant. It was a rewarding experience to boost team spirit too. Since the year 2014‐2015 marked the beginning of the 3‐year school development cycle, the Third Staff Development was scheduled for evaluation of the 3 Major Concerns and discussion on the Annual School Plan 2015‐2016. Based on the report of KISS Analysis on Major Concerns, teachers were divided into different groups. Discussions were fruitful and constructive suggestions were obtained for the implementation of the Major Concerns in the Annual School Plan for 2015‐2016. There was also a sharing session for the Principal, Mrs. Lam and Ms Fan who would leave school soon. Colleagues had an unforgettable conversation with them. 10

OUR LEARNING AND TEACHING Learning and Teaching In BPS, students are nurtured to be life‐long learners who continuously collaborate to strive for excellence in their pursuit of knowledge. Their exemplary academic performance does not come as a coincidence but rather the hard work of a team of dedicated and professional staff who unceasingly learn to excel and teach to inspire. Aware of the huge impact of teachers on young people and how values and attitudes could be inculcated through classroom interactions, our teachers collaborate to deliver the kind of education we pledge to offer through the following strategies: 
To promote the spirit of the school motto ‐ Climb High, See Wide; 
To create opportunities for life‐wide learning whereby students acquire knowledge and skills through experiences and observations; 
To develop students as self‐motivated and life‐long learners; 
To encourage students to share knowledge through peer learning; 
To foster a reflective culture among students; and 
To train students to be critical thinkers with enhanced problem solving skills. Modern Language Our school has made an important stride forward in language education. To cater for the diverse interests and abilities of our students, we have been offering modern language courses since 2008, which would eventually align with the NSS. With the partnership and full support of the Department of Modern Languages and Culture of the University of Hong Kong, we offered modern language courses starting from S.1. To develop our students’ global perspectives, we would continue to offer courses in Spanish and Japanese. English Speaking Leagues In 2010‐2011 a programme called the English Speaking Leagues was introduced to the school. Thanks to the Chairlady of the BOGF, Mrs. Nellie Fong, very successful and renowned native English speakers agreed to be Captains in this programme. These prominent members of society conduct conversation classes with small groups of students after school. They included Sir David Akers‐Jones, KBE, CMG, GBM, JP, former Chief Secretary of Hong Kong; Sir Ti‐liang Yang, GBM, JP, LLD, DLitt, Former Chief Justice of Hong Kong; Mr. Stephen Selby, JP, Associate Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Mr. James Blake, OBE, JP, former Chief Officer of the KCR; Mrs. Rachel Cartland, retired Government Servant; Mrs. Anthea Strickland, Chairperson of the Minerology Society; Mr. Mark Shuper, Co‐founder and Executive Director of Sprouts Foundation; Mr. Chris Hall, retired Senior Tax Specialist; Mr. Gordon Jones, former Head of the Companies Registry of Hong Kong; Mrs. Jitka Reibel; and Ms Andrea Fessler, founder and Executive Director of Premiere Performance. 130 students from S.1 to S.6 were involved. The yearly programme culminated in a certificate presentation ceremony where all of the students and their Captains shared their experiences and mingled over a cup of tea. 12

Support for Student Development A whole‐school approach was adopted to facilitate students’ whole‐person development. Pastoral services encompassing careers guidance, cross‐curricular programmes, discipline, ECA, community services, environmental education, guidance & counselling and moral, civic and national education echoed the school’s genuine commitment in fostering student development. Three periods of Life‐wide Learning in Day 6 afternoon (alternate cycle) was structured in the timetable which facilitated the implementation of a rich variety of student‐centred activities. Also, Life Education was conducted in junior forms to inculcate correct values and reinforce proper behavior among students. To help students with financial difficulties, funding from the School‐based After‐school Learning and Support Programme and the Jockey Club Life‐wide Learning Fund was fully utilized to ensure that every student could have the opportunities to broaden their exposure, explore new frontiers and develop global perspectives which were essential for young people in the era of changes. Our school was most fortunate to have parents and alumnae with shared vision and commitment. The Parents‐Teachers’ Association (PTA) Education Fund made generous donations of prizes and scholarships, subsidized ECA activities, upgraded school facilities as well as provided immediate relief to students with unexpected financial difficulties. Measures to Cater for Learning Diversity The diversity of students’ learning ability is addressed through different ways including: 

MAJOR AREAS OF CONCERN Major Concern 1: To enhance students’ and teachers’ capacity for life‐long learning In Major Concern 1, the following measures were implemented to enhance students’ and teachers’ capacity for life‐long learning. Our first aim was to raise students’ initiative and responsibility for self‐directed learning. For S1 and S2 students, mass training programmes were organized to equip them with self‐directed learning skills. Through making quality notes and sharing their good work with their peers, S1 and S2 students’ self‐directed learning habits were further fostered. For S3 students, self‐generated subject‐related questions were designed. They were encouraged to set challenging and interesting questions for their peers. Some questions demonstrated high quality. A resource bank for keeping the quality notes and self‐generated subject‐related questions was set up. It was encouraging to notice that students gradually developed self‐directed learning habits and made frequent use of the learning materials in the resource bank. Moreover, self‐directed learning skills were successfully strengthened through Inter‐class Creativity Contest. Each class created a quality project for the Contest and they were given chances to share their learning outcomes on Open Days. Their confident presentations and systematic displays won the high appreciation from guests and visitors. Feedback from students was also positive and they showed appreciation to their fellow schoolmates’ achievements. Besides, a wide range of learning programmes and activities were organized by different subject departments. Most students agreed that their horizon were broadened and they had gradually developed self‐directed learning habits. Moreover, goal setting for S1 and S6 students was highly encouraged. A set of S1 performance indicators was complied and used by the students to set their learning goals. For S6 students, they were asked to set their learning goals through self‐reflection on academic performance and teachers’ feedback. Through student surveys, it was found that most students were motivated to work harder to achieve the HKDSE exam score levels predicted by teachers. Besides, they also agreed that the information about HKDSE Predicted Exam Results could help them to keep track of their academic performance effectively. The second aim was to foster on‐going professional development for teachers. In order to familiarize teachers with student‐centered learning and teaching strategies, a workshop was conducted on the First Staff Development Day. Through lesson observations, it was found that more teachers would arrange student‐centered activities in their lessons and most of the lessons were more interactive than before. In addition, 14 teachers were invited to open their classrooms for well‐focused lesson observation. Innovative and effective learning and teaching practices for self‐directed learning were identified, shared and practised by teachers. 17

Major Concern 2: To inculcate life planning skills among students through understanding and developing oneself, goal‐setting, reflection and career planning In Major Concern 2, the following measures were implemented to inculcate life planning skills among students through understanding and developing oneself, goal‐setting, reflection and career planning. Our first objective was to help students understand oneself in academic and cultural development by goal‐setting and reflection. To achieve this, we equipped S1 and S2 students with goal‐setting and reflection skills by organizing mass training programmes on goal‐setting and reflection skills at the beginning of the school term. S1 students were provided academic performance indicators to help them set goals for each subject; compulsory sports experience classes were conducted to enable them to have a balanced non‐academic development. To let S1 and S2 students have a clear picture of their progress for a meaningful reflection, they were guided to use academic and non‐academic performance data for regular reflection and required to write reflection on designated academic or non‐academic activities. To enhance the effectiveness, the goal‐setting and reflection on academic and cultural development of S1 and S2 students were coached by Peer Counsellors or Teacher Mentors respectively. Our second objective was to enable life‐long learning by enhancing students’ personal qualities and life skills. We planned to promote students’ qualities and skills they needed by organizing mainland or overseas study tours for S2. However, the plan had to be postponed as students needed to focus on their 125th Anniversary Open Day Performance which turned out to be a success. S3 students were given opportunities to enjoy their personal growth through their participation in adventure‐based trainings during Life‐planning lessons while S4 students had an experience of lifetime in the 5‐day outward bound training; senior form students were also encouraged to be engaged in community services so as to be a better person by understanding oneself and others’ needs. To attain our third objective ‐ to facilitate students in career planning, we implemented measures to uplift students’ self‐understanding of aptitude, qualities and abilities by various tools namely Finding Colours in your Life, MBTI, Career Mapping and Career Interest Inventory. Moreover, S3 students were guided to investigate options of learning in Life‐planning lessons. They were given briefing workshops on NSS subjects, a talk and a workshop on goal‐setting and reflection and a career experience workshop. They also did a subject research and a presentation on their research to let themselves and their schoolmates realize the opportunities and constraints of various study options. Besides, in order to enrich senior form students’ exposure to different perspectives of life and potentials, they were encouraged to visit universities and workplaces. Their experience was greatly enriched through their keen participation in the S4‐S6 Career Expo and S5 BOGA Mentorship Programme where they learned from the precious career experience of our alumnae. Finally, to set their own career plans, S4 students were instructed to conduct a dream career research whereas S5 students to devise their student learning portfolio. To sum up, students of all levels were more aware of the issue of life‐planning and the importance of setting goals, doing reflection and career planning. Through the implementation of the measures in Major Concern 2, the objectives to inculcate life planning skills among students through understanding and developing oneself, goal‐setting, reflection and career planning were attained. To move one step forward, our next target is to reinforce their life‐planning skills and develop their sense of ownership in their career planning. 18

Major Concern 3: To cultivate among students a strong sense of commitment to their respective roles through value education on rights and duties The aim of Major Concern 3 was to enable students to internalize and actualize the core values related to rights and duties, becoming fulfilling and contributing members in their respective roles of the three domains, i.e. personal, family and school. A number of programmes including mentorship programmes, sharing sessions, talks, campaigns, workshops and visits were organized to cultivate students’ understanding and awareness of a set of personal qualities (e.g. responsibility, care and respect for others, perseverance, commitment, integrity) and their rights and duties. Students learned to be responsible for their own life and become more hardworking and committed to their learning. The activities most worth‐mentioning were the “Barrier‐Free Society Project”
(傷健共融,各展所長)and the “Human Rights Education Project (2014‐2015)” organized by Amnesty International (HK). Students participated in “Barrier‐Free Society Project” cooperated with “Dialogue in the Dark” and the sharing session with the visually impaired let our girls know more about the needs and how the disabled and the severely visually impaired overcame the difficulties in their daily life. The “Human Rights Education Project (2014‐2015)” included film screening ‐‐‐ “It’s a Girl”(哀悼女孩), thematic school talk about human rights and board display of UDHR Photo Exhibition(《世界人權宣言》相展). Follow‐up essay writing and reflection activities were designed after the film screening. Over 90% of the students agreed that the thematic school talk about human rights for senior forms made them think more about justice and the responsibility of being a responsible global citizen. Programmes for students broadened their perspectives and sharpened their awareness of the needs of society. A concerted interdisciplinary effort was made across the curriculum to cultivate students’ filial piety and promote parent‐child relationship. For example, NSS Chinese Cultural Studies and junior Liberal Studies always touched on and even directed students’ attention to certain moral discourse. Programmes such as Putonghua Moral Drama Competition themed “filial piety”(孝道)for S1 students inspired discussion about family relationship. The School never ceased to seize opportunities to boost Belilians’ sense of commitment here. For instance, key student bodies (School Prefects, Counseling Prefects, Student Union, Houses, Music Society and Sports Association) made a pledge to be held responsible in the inauguration ceremony. This ‘empowerment and accountability’ system successfully strengthened students’ self‐governing ability and sense of self‐discipline. Also, to encourage students to explore the core values of our school and reflect on their roles as Belilians, we invited different stakeholders including principal, teachers, parents, alumnae and student leaders to share their life experiences and to instill the concept of rights and duties from different aspects. Students were asked to interact with the guest speakers through reflections and discussions. Last but not least, one of the highlights was the 125th Anniversary Celebration, in which students explored their interests and unleash creativity while saluting to their alma mater through inter‐class and inter‐house competitions. 19
