JOIN THE ACES!!!
Riddles with Kim— A man is asked what his daughters look like. He answers, "They are all blondes,
but two, all brunettes, but two, and all redheads,
but two." How many daughters did he have?
Do all you can with what you have,
in the time you have, in the place
you are.
--Nkosi Johnson, a Zulu boy, born into
dire poverty and infected with AIDS,
who died at the age of 12.
Not everyone can be rich, or have
unlimited connections, but everyone has
something important to share. You as a
teenager have something extra special:
you inspire hope for the future. When
people see all of the amazing things you
can accomplish, they realize that the
world doesn’t have to be messed up,
and that it really can be a better place.
I hope you will come volunteer with us
soon, and help us inspire hope for a
kinder world.
Camp Fire Trivia
The Camp Fire USA Sunshine Council is a
United Way agency, which means that we
are recognized by United Way as an
outstanding local resource for kids and
families. When you and your family
support United Way, you are
supporting Camp Fire and 66 other
local agencies who are doing a great job of
meeting needs in our community.
Do you like the Outdoors? How about
Adventure? If you are in 6th-9th grade and
want to learn outdoor skills, meet new
friends, and learn how to be a leader, join
the ACES program at Camp Fire. ACES
stands for Advanced Camping ExpertS,
Red shirt ACES have been graduating from
Camp Fire for over 25 years. Do you have
what it takes to become a red-shirt ACE?
Our first ACES meeting happens at the
Camp Fire Building on September 10, from
7-8 pm. Hope to see you there!
Camp Fire takes 2nd place in
Cardboard Boat Race!!!
Way to go Camp Fire teens!
Our team built and launched a boat
made entirely of cardboard, duct tape,
and ingenuity on Saturday, Sept. 6 at
the annual Cardboard Boat
Challenge. We took 1st place in our
heat, and 2nd place overall in the
high school division. Most
importantly, though, we showed all of
Lakeland that our teens have some of
the best leadership and teamwork
skills around.
Camp Fire has begun opening our building to outside
organizations to use as a venue for Rock Shows.
Sept. 13 - show to benefit the Make A Wish
Foundation. 7-10 pm
Sept. 18- show sponsored by American Dance Party
T-shirts 7-10 pm
Call for more information. Although these events are
taking place at Camp Fire and the same Camp Fire rules
will apply, we aren’t truly “in charge” of these events
and we can’t sign you up as volunteers. We encourage
you to come on out, enjoy the shows and help
support local music.
Great News for Anyone
6-12 Grade!
We know you like making a
difference. Here is a great
way to do that with Camp Fire.
We are going to do a big
project to help our
community, and we want teens to help us
decide what that project will be. Meet us at
Camp Fire from 6-7:30 pm on Tuesday, Sept.
16 to be a part of this exciting movement. Any
time spent working on this project with us will
count towards community service hours.
Potential Roundtable Members!!!
Thank you for your wonderful
applications! If you turned in a
Roundtable application, interviews will
be held at the Camp Fire building
Monday, Sept. 15 from 6-8pm.
Remember to wear nice clothes!
Teens:
If you see anything in Teen
Mail that you want to be a
part of, call Kimberly at
688-5491 and I will make
sure you are on the list.
We want to share the love!
Camp Fire USA is interested in
connecting with sponsors,
community organizations, and
other partners to join with us to
make campfirepalooza 2009 a
community event. If you know of
anyone who you think might want
to join us in our quest for the
perfect Lakeland music
festival, please help us hook up
with them. Thanks!!!!
