A new vision
for Paris-Orly Airport
Pierre Graff,
Chairman and CEO
of Aéroports de Paris
”By 2018, Paris-Orly
Airport will be synonymous with one single
terminal. Our project is
not to simply renovate
Paris-Orly Airport, but
to bring about its complete transformation. It is a
new and more modern long-term vision, adapted
to current expectations and constraints. The entire
passenger journey through the airport has been
rethought, involving all airport stakeholders.
For both our passengers and the airlines based at
Paris-Orly, we needed a new and ambitious project
for this airport, so we can remain competitive vis-àvis our foreign competitors.
All this will, of course, be done in strict compliance
with the environmental constraints the airport has
adhered to for many years now.
We have also decided not to simply renovate part
of the airport, but to literally give the south of Paris
a completely new airport. We plan to inject such
momentum that upon the work’s completion in 2018,
the airport will offer the best European standards in
terms of quality of service and comfort, as recently
achieved at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.
This transformation will mean much bigger spaces
for our passengers, with a 35% bigger surface area
by 2018. Paris-Orly Airport has already been renovated inside many times since its opening in 1961.
Hall 2 in the West Terminal was renovated in 2006,
the international circuits were reorganised in 2008,
and the Place de la Madeleine food hall opened in
West Terminal in December 2011.
The new face of Paris-Orly Airport:
one single terminal
But to stay competitive we now need to go even
further.
To adapt the airport to its changing traffic
structure, we are going to build a new departure
lounge dedicated to international flights.
To improve the airport’s servicing by public
transport, all the areas outside the terminals
and the car parks accesses will be revamped.
New pedestrian areas will be created to provide
interfaces with the new transport services chosen
by the STIF transport authority and Greater Paris
transport network Société du Grand Paris (T7, line
14, green line, T5, TGV).
To upgrade facilities comfort level and provide
passengers with new spaces, we are going to
connect the West and South terminals. A single
terminal. Better passenger flow. A better airport.
To achieve this result, Aéroports de Paris is investing
almost 450 million euros into the project over the
next six years, with no government aid. And the
transformation is starting now.
Given the sheer magnitude of the projects, you should
plan to come to Aéroports de Paris each year to
follow the progress of these projects right up until the
completion date in 2018!”

The new face of Paris-Orly Airport:
one single terminal
Today, Aéroports de Paris unveils its sixyear project to transform Paris-Orly Airport.
Modernism, quality of service, large well-lit
spaces and easy navigation will be the objectives
for this new airport.

volumes and simplified routes for passengers
and transport professionals, a new step towards
improving quality of service and comfort.
Once the work is complete, passenger welcome
areas will boast an additional surface area of
100,000 m² (the current total surface area being
290,000m²).
View of Paris-Orly Airport in 2020
Hence, this is not just one but several projects, whose sole purpose is to bring a new dimension, new
ambition and new consistency to Paris-Orly Airport, with:
the creation of a new departure lounge
at the East end of the South terminal
the complete redevelopment of the
areas outside the terminals and the car
park accesses
a flagship project with the construction

François Garcia,
Mayor of Athis-Mons,
President of Portes de l’Essonne
"The modernization project of
Orly Airport is a real asset for the
attractiveness of our city, especially
communities. It is a win-win investment, not only
for the communities who will find a new source of
jobs and an attractive catchment area but also for
the environment, thanks to the arrival of medium and
long-haul carriers that allow the handling of more
passengers without increasing traffic while reducing
energy consumption."
in terms of employment.
These new developments are also synonymous
with quality of service, easy access and comfort for
passengers."

at the East end of the South terminal
8
At the East end of Orly South terminal, Aéroports
de Paris plans to create a space of almost
20,000 m² composed mainly of a new departure
lounge that will welcome 80% of international
passengers handled in the terminal.
To improve people flow through checkpoints,
the number of border control points will be
increased. The baggage reclaim area will also
be extended and another large carousel will be
installed.
Its opening is scheduled for the end of 2015.
Aéroports de Paris wants to offer both passengers
and airlines a level of quality of service, comfort
and services matching Paris-Charles de Gaulle
Airport’s boarding satellite S4, currently one of
the best standards in the world.
This new departure lounge will be dedicated
to international flights. The airlines using this
building will be Aigle Azur, Air Algérie, Air
Caraïbes, Corsair International, Iranair, Jetairfly,
Nouvelair Tunisie, Pegasus Airlines, Royal Air Maroc,
Sunwings, Transavia.com, Transaero and Tunisair.

Interviews
Pascal de Izaguirre,
Chief Executive Officer
of Corsair International,
"We welcome this redevelopment
project of Paris-Orly Airport. The
re-sizing and the modernization
of this airport will be part of the
upgrading implemented by Aéroports de Paris.
Corsair international is in line with this strategy
to improve customer satisfaction. Indeed, we have
totally reorganized our check-in area in partnership
with Aéroports de Paris teams to improve passenger
flow and to offer a dedicated welcome area to our
Grand Large passengers.
Lionel Guérin,
President of Airliner
and Transavia
"Speaking as president of Airliner
and Transavia airlines based
at Orly, we have witnessed all
the modernization works and
This upgrading on the ground is reflected in flight by
a total renewal of our fleet as well as a new cabin
layout for more space and more comfort. Hence,
sized to handle more passengers in compliance with
environmental constraints, Orly Airport will have its
rightful place among major international airports.
We are pleased to see Orly take a clear turn towards
international traffic. It is this dimension and this
reputation that we help to sustain by launching
regular flights to Dakar this year and to Rio de Janeiro
as from winter 2013. We are very proud to take part
in the creation of new ties with the South American
continent, a first time ever from Orly Airport."
upgrading of services for our clients carried out
by Aéroports de Paris these last years. We are
delighted that these investments are continued to
substantially upgrade comfort and services for our
mutual customers. Further improvements are still
needed as public transports are far from adequate"

New exterior
developments
For a better vehicle and passenger flow around
the airport, Aéroports de Paris has decided to
completely redevelop the areas surrounding the
two terminals.
A new urban space, with quality facilities and
rebalanced road and pedestrian areas will be
created in 2013 and 2014.
The South terminal square for example will
be extended from its current 6 metres to 17
metres. The South terminal car parks will also
be reorganised, both for the general public and
professionals. A drop-off zone will be created
outside the West terminal.

Paris-Orly, one of the best served airports
in terms of transport and interconnections
With the projects developed by land transport
operators, the aim is to create a real transport
hub in the centre of the airport, grouping
together the air, rail and road networks.

This intermodal centre will accommodate:
a new bus station to accommodate more road
public transport
the T7 tramway from 2013
and a future high-speed train station.

One single terminal:
a connecting building between Orly West
and Orly Southd
The most iconic project is the creation of an
80,000 m² building connecting South and West
terminals of Orly Airport by 2018.
At the moment, the airport has two terminals
and six departure lounges. At the end of the
renovation project, it will have just one terminal
and three departure lounges. This transformation
will simplify passenger access and improve the
through airport experience.
The connecting building will contain all the
functionalities of a terminal including checkin, security checks, border control, baggage
handling and retail outlets. Its goal is to provide
more space, and to offer passengers and airlines
alike greater flexibility in their use of the available
services and retail outlets than the existing
facilities.
Interview
Alexandre de Juniac,
Chief Executive Officer
of Air France
"The work we have initiated
with Aéroports de Paris is in line
with our common approach to

give priority to the quality of our services and the
satisfaction of our clients. Along the same line as
Hub 2012 project we completed at Paris-Charles
de Gaulle airport, we see in the modernization of
Paris-Orly airport an opportunity to improve
the overall through airport experience for our
customers"
Simplicity and legibility
for passengers
Light plays a huge part in the design of this
new building. The natural light provided by
the transparent frontage will make it easier for
people to read its many signs and accesses.
Measuring 225 m long, it will offer passengers
vast, wide spaces.
The inside of the building will be carefully
designed to create a relaxing «Zen» atmosphere.
Particular attention will be paid to:
ceiling height: many spaces will have a height
clearance of 9.5 m
volumes: generous volumes for greater
functionality
choice of materials: marble, glass partitions
and wood for check-in counters and certain
areas
the harmony of colours: white marble floors
with brightly coloured spots.
Benefiting from the experience gained from
the work recently completed at Paris-Charles
de Gaulle Airport with the opening last June
of satellite S4 and the connection between
terminals 2A and 2C in March, this project
will offer passengers the same standards of
quality.

More shops,
services and waiting areas
Following the example of S4 at Paris-Charles
de Gaulle Airport, Aéroports de Paris will be
deploying its new layout for retail facilities at
Paris-Orly.
Passengers will discover a vast 1,500 m² store
completely dedicated to French gastronomy,
fragrances, cosmetics and lifestyle products.
A collection of the best Paris has to offer. The
second floor will lead them to the centre of a
huge square where they will find several bars
and restaurants and a variety of leather seating
areas.
Passengers will ultimately have access to welllit departure lounges, with wide open views
onto the aeroplanes. Aéroports de Paris will give
14

them access to a range of services for all ages:
PlayStation areas, interactive touch tables for
playing family games, SoundCorner music areas
and Disney games areas.
Aeronautical
improvements
This series of projects will ultimately allow us
to replace 10 aircraft parking stands currently
located at some distance from the terminal with
much closer ones.
This modular arrangement will also enable the
airport to adapt to future changes in traffic,
whether towards more international or more
European destinations (Schengen). The facilities
are also designed to adapt to changing alliances
between airlines.
A new momentum
for the region and Greater Paris
Paris-Orly Airport is an essential link in the
attractiveness of the Greater Paris region. It is a
critical element to the economic development
of Ile-de- France and the success of Greater
Paris. According to a study conducted by French
consulting firm BIPE in February 2012, the
economic activity generated by Paris-Orly Airport’s
presence created almost 8 billion euros of added
value in 2010, and represents over 85,000 jobs.
7.8 billion euros
of added value
This study revealed that 7.8 billion euros are
injected into the French economy by the salaries
and investments of the players present at the
Paris-Orly Airport site.
Paris-Orly Airport, with the Rungis Market and Silic
business park, is one of the region’s major hubs,
which is why the French State and the Region
have decided, as part of the Greater Paris project,
to implement a number of schemes to further
improve the site’s servicing by public transport.
A 6-year
The airport is in fact an important job provider.
Generating almost 27,000 direct jobs alone, ParisOrly is a vital employment base for the Greater
Paris region. These jobs are directly linked to the
businesses on the airport’s site. The 58,000 indirect
jobs illustrate the overall social impact generated
by the activity of the businesses interacting with
the airport.
Perfect integration
with the future Business Class
eco-district, Cœur d’Orly
The first phase of this project is likely to include
the construction, over 13.5 hectares, of 160,000
m2 of buildings, of which around 108,000 m2 will
be offices, 34,000 m2 will be factory outlets, local
shops, restaurants and leisure facilities, and 18,000
m2 will be a hotel. The project was designed by JeanMichel Wilmotte, who acted as the coordinating
architect, and the landscaper Philippe Thébaud.
From the aeroplane, the future business men and
women will have a direct view of their meeting
room.
job-creating project
This huge project will boost the airport economic
vitality by creating 750 full-time jobs a year until
2018.
