His eye, art, and stories are full of the passions of a man who lives on the land and who loves living here. DESCRIPTION • • • Join Rodney for a walkabout into this hilly and gentle fjord land. Through his sketches and watercolours, he’ll lead you to some of his favorite places, share stories, and invite you to look at his homeland through his eyes. He knows the stories of this place, the people, and loves sharing what he knows about Long Island and the area. A sketch is a simple way of presenting an idea, a place, or something you love. In Rodney’s hands, you’ll have access to all three. You’ll leave with stories, memories, or maybe even a sketch. In particular, the tradition of hooked mats (rug hooking) is a unique craft that anyone can do. DESCRIPTION • • • Join Cathy Simms to learn how to rug hook using Briggs & Little wool yarns, locally made hooks, and patterns from Gaultois sketched by a local artist. Choose from several local patterns that are unique to the area, and enjoy a short studio lesson on making mats. You can finish the mat before you leave, or take it with you, as a kit to finish when you head home. All kits come complete with hook, pattern and all the yarn you’ll need to finish the mat. It’s a memory keeper!
