YOU ARE INVITED
TO THE NEXT CHEROKEE WATER COMPANY BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
September 17, 2015
Shareholders are welcome and invited to attend the
monthly business meeting of the Board of Directors. The
first part of each meeting will be devoted to shareholder
questions, comments or concerns. For the shareholders that
want to speak, please complete the speaker card prior to the
meeting. The speaker cards are located on a table in the
entryway to the board room. Please complete the card in
its entirety, including contact information. Each speaker
may speak up to four minutes. The Board and/or Lake
Management will try to address any questions or concerns
raised; although research may be required resulting in the
response being provided later when the research is completed. Following the shareholder comment portion of the
meeting, the Directors will begin their business meeting.
During the business meeting, the directors will discuss
the company’s business among themselves, and they will
not engage the audience during those discussions. If a
question or issue comes to a shareholder’s mind during the
business meeting, the Directors and Lake Manager will
welcome discussing it after the meeting is adjourned. The
Board will give its respectful attention to each speaker and,
in return, the Board asks that the audience respect the Directors’ meeting and refrain from questions and comments
until after the meeting.

a series of thefts that have taken place

Please make sure that any valuables
you have stored in boat hoses are secured.

that if something happens the law enforcement agencies will have this information.

Manager’s
Interim Lake Manager
Cherokee Water Company
Wasn’t it a great summer
on Lake Cherokee? Starting with the Wet and Wild
boat rally in June, followed
by the boat parade and a
spectacular fireworks program, and capped off with
the Family Fun Fest (and
the water levels remaining
high), it was awesome.
It is lease renewal time, the
notices were sent out the last week of August and everyone
should have received theirs by now. If you have not gotten
anything, please call the office so we can get it to you. We
thought we would award an incentive this year. We have
put together a gift package of official Lake Cherokee logo
items which include a beach towel, a t-shirt, a 24 oz Tervis tumbler, a set of four insulated Red Cup tumblers, and
a ceramic coffee mug that will be awarded to one of our
shareholders. Everyone who gets their renewal turned in
and processed by September 15 will be entered into a drawing for the merchandise.
Last year at renewal time we were heavily involved in a
process of electronically scanning all of our records and it
made it very difficult to get cards etc. done very quickly.
This will not be an issue this year. The office staff will strive
to get you your cards and
decals before you leave if
you bring your renewals
to them in person. We ask
that if you are going to do
this please do so before
September 15 as it gets
very hectic around that
time.
When you receive your
decals for your vehicle
and watercraft this year
you will notice something
different. In the past we
issued two separate decals for each vehicle and
watercraft and these had
different numbers, this
had proved somewhat
confusing. Now you will find two decals per card with the
same number so they will match. We included a diagram of
where they should be placed on the reverse side. We realize
that putting the front decal in the center of the windshield
can prove difficult and sometimes block sensors. If you
would prefer you can put the front one at the top on the
driver’s side.
photos submitted by Bob Tippit
The first phase of the road construction was completed at the beginning of the summer. The next
phase will begin soon. He contractors will be seal
coating several areas; this will cause some traffic
delays and other issues. We will strive to contact
the folks with lots in the affected areas prior to the
work beginning.
Teal season starts soon and the duck hunters will
be out. We often get calls about the designated
hunting areas so the following is a section from
the Hunting section of the Rules and Regulations
about this:
WATERFOWL:
Waterfowl hunting is limited to the area upstream
from the southern end of Geronimo boat road. Waterfowl may only be hunted from a boat.
There are signs posted in the lake at the end of
the Geronimo boat road that mark the boundary.
Please take note that you must hunt from a boat
only.

“Summer is like the ultimate one-night
stand…hot as hell, totally thrilling, and
gone before you know it.” -Anonymous
Labor Day is here and the bittersweet celebration that is the end of summer. Wow! It went so
quickly, I feel like it just began! But school is back
in session, gardens are in decline, and talk has turned
to thoughts of the coming fall. Not so quickly….one
last big party! Yeah!!
The Family Fun Fest will be Saturday, September 5th from 11am to 5pm at Firecracker Park. The
excitement grows as we get closer to the event, all of
the participants are buzzing like bees….come join us
as we celebrate the end of summer! Clayton Evans
is the chairman of the upcoming festivities. If you
would like to volunteer to assist in the fun, please
call 903-643-8003 or 903-6430004. There will be water slides,
games, prizes, face painting, and
other activities for the kids. Hot
dogs, snow cones, and more for
everyone. There will be an art
contest for the Preservation Club
calendar, so get the kids to enter.
This is free to all shareholders and
their family and friends. It is our way of giving back
to the lake, we want to express our gratitude for the
community support that we receive throughout the
year. So come on out and get your play on!
We have acquired a new sound system thanks
to Bart Owens for the research and acquisition. We
will begin putting it to good use at the Family Fun
Fest. We have always depended upon the generosity of Chuck Conrad, and greatly appreciate the past
support and his invaluable expertise in the selection
of our new system. Maybe our events will sound as
good as his radio station, KDOK…all hits, all the
time, 105.3 on your dial!
The date for the Chili Fest will be Saturday,
November 14th. It’s not Chili weather, but it’s never
too early to get your team together and prepare for
the competition. Tommy Pelton will be chairman of
this event. If you have any questions call 903-3300340.
Summer should get a speeding ticket….pull it over
and stop it for a while, at least slow it down. Now
get out on the water and enjoy the last days of summer!
Happy Boating to all!

Bridge is a four player trick taking
game where players bid for a trump suit

score 100 below the line. We even have
scorekeepers that will teach you that
phase. Lynda Sutter and Bette Slade had
a loaded trump hand.....too loaded with

The monthly Raffle, sometimes, turns into a funny event
when Steve Brown gets on a roll and that happened
on the Monday Club night; Steve always wants a new
member, first time guest, or a child to win, at least one
raffle item! It is fun to watch him get into action during
the raffle event. We had a young child, first time guest,
whose dad was a new member, that night and Tom just
happened to want a new Skeeter Tournament Rod made
with G. Loomis technology that was being given away
as a raffle item. Steve was on a roll! We had six items
being raffled off and each time a ticket was drawn, Steve
would go to Tom and slowly call out the ticket number,
with hopes that Tom would win the item. But, alas, each
time a ticket was drawn, someone else had the winning
ticket. It was time for the final item to be raffled off,
which happened to be the Skeeter rod. Tom’s eyes were
going from Steve, to the ticket, to the rod. Steve began
to call out each number very slowly and looking at Tom
each time a number was called. The final number was
called but the winning ticket was held by Bob Tippit! On
most nights, without a child being present, the meeting

determined to make sure that Tom gets that rod. Steve walks over to Bob Tippit, made
an offer to Bob on the rod he just won and a deal was made! Steve walked over to Tom,
handed him the Skeeter Rod and said you won the rod! What great feeling it was to
see the night end with a first time guest, who happened to be a young child, whose dad
was a new member, win the item that he wanted so much. The young man was Tom
Visage, and his dad was Thomas Visage, who recently became a new member. A very
good ending of a meeting that had good people, good food, good guest, and a young
child win a very good rod. Our other lucky winners were Karen Loper, Willard Jordan,
Tim Anderson, Cody Wilburn, with all winning a $50.00 Academy Gift Card, Bill Reed,
BBQ tool set and Tippitt/Visage rod.
Our next meeting will be Monday, September 14, at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the
Cherokee Water Company Office building, located at NK 20 Lake Cherokee. Don’t
forget the Annual Kid’s Catfish tournament being held on Saturday, September 12 at the
hatchery ponds. The hatchery ponds are located near the NA boat ramp, on the lakes
North side. We will start the fishing at 8:30 a.m. and will go until about 11:00 a.m. or
until everyone has had the opportunity to fish. The tournament is open to any child
fifteen years of age and younger. The Cherokee Fishing Club has some members that
have offered to take new CFC members or new shareholders on a lake tour. It would
include showing boat roads, discussing speed limit rules in boat roads, coves, side boat
roads and one of the prettiest part of the lake that is on the far west end of Lake Cherokee. If interested, they would also be shown some fishing areas around the lake. You
can arrange this trip by calling me at 903-738-3090.
