Gaston Brunel, a famous négociant, acquired the Château de la Gardine in 1945. The estate is now run by his two sons, Patrick and Maxime with the help of their wives and children Eve, Maryse, Marie-Odile and Philippe. The estate spreads over 52ha of vineyards (48ha of red and 4ha of white) and 20ha of forests, all gathered around the property (see page 4). The domaine is famous for the quality of their wines and for the Gardine bottle. 70% of the production is exported in about 30 countries. We have been producing white Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1980. White wines account for 5% of our total production. Age of the vines Yield Density 35 years 28 hl/ha 3,000 to 3,600 vines/ha This cuvée: 110 hl - 15,000 bottles - 2,500 cases. Total Château de la Gardine: 1,300 hl - 170,500 bottles - 28,500 cases. Total Châteauneuf du Pape appellation: 110,000 hl - 3,200 ha. The white vines are mostly on Urgonian limestones located on the Western side of the estate. This provides wines with excellent minerality. Average temperature: Summer 22°C - Winter 8°C. Annual rainfall: 450 mm (National average: 770mm). Sunshine: 2 800 hours/year = 230 days (National average: 1,973 hours). Wind: The Mistral (extremely cold wind from the North) 100+ days/year. Exposure: Mostly South-West Altitude: 40-100 meters Cordon de Royat. Early (usually before September 15) to preserve maximum freshness. 100% hand harvest into small baskets with thorough sorting of the grapes. The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press right after the harvest. After cold settling, around 70% of the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks at 15 to 18°C, the rest in 300 and 225 litres barrels. The Roussanne grapes are aged for half a year in one year-old small oak barrels and the remaining varieties in vats. There is no malolactic fermentation and the wine is slightly filtered before bottling. Vegetarian Vegan Kieselguhr filtration. No use of any animal or dairy products at any stage. Nose: Fine and lively aromas of citrus, thyme and verbena, as well as some delicately spiced notes of liquorice and fennel, all reminding the Provencal “garrigue”. Palate: Deliciously crisp, round and aromatic with a very fresh finish. Best served at 10°C. Best to drink now, but can age 2 to 3 years for an evolution towards some more roundness and some waxy and honey aromas. As an aperitif or with tapas food. Delicate fish: Steamed or grilled John Dory, Sea bass or monkfish. Exotic food: Sushis and sashimis. Grilled white meat and poultry. Goat’s cheese. PRESS, REVIEWS & AWARDS Concours des Vignerons Indépendants 2012 Silver Medal (2010 vintage) Le Grand Guide Des Vins de France Bettane & Desseauve 2012 15/20 (2010 Vintage) “Gold and round, this is a generous wine plentiful of taste.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate 87/100 (2009 vintage) “The 2009 Châteauneuf du Pape blanc is a solidly constructed, medium-bodied, fresh, lively white revealing hints of melons, candle wax, pears and honeysuckle. It is best drunk over the next year.“ Gault & Millau 14/20 “This wine shows some lime-blossom, verbena and garrigue notes. The mouth is very seductive with a good compromise between freshness and roundness.” Sarl Brunel Père & Fils - Château de la Gardine - 84230 Châteauneuf du Pape - France - Tel: +33 490 835 733 - Fax: +33 490 837 724 - Email: [email protected] Registered Capital: 7700 € - RC 83 B 204 Carpentras - Company Registration Number (Siret): 327 957 494 00013/APE 513J - TVA intracommunautaire FR39 327 957 494 - N° accise: FR007027E2191 2 MAPS WEST: Urgonian limestones Sarl Brunel Père & Fils - Château de la Gardine - 84230 Châteauneuf du Pape - France - Tel: +33 490 835 733 - Fax: +33 490 837 724 - Email: [email protected] Registered Capital: 7700 € - RC 83 B 204 Carpentras - Company Registration Number (Siret): 327 957 494 00013/APE 513J - TVA intracommunautaire FR39 327 957 494 - N° accise: FR007027E2191 3 PHOTOS Cellar where the white wines are made.
