2012 hosted several Regional Challenge events. This built excitement as 4
BBR Regional Challenge Finals events in different parts of the country were
held.

the 2012 Season are upon us
and the inaugural BBR Regional
Finals events have come to a
magnificent close. Each of the
four Regional Finals featured a
$5,000 Added BBR Members
Only 5D that was run in addition
to the actual host event as either
a side pot or as a stand-alone
class. When the dust settled at
the end of the day at the last
event barrel racers cashed in on
a whopping $245,623.35 in cash
and more than $100,000 in
awards with saddles, buckles,
pads, and BBR Wild Cards.
The question BBR wants on the
mind of every barrel racers is,
“What is a BBR Wild Card?” A
Wild Card is a FREE PASS to
the World’s Largest & Richest
Barrel Race – the event that has
come to be known as the NFR
of divisional barrel racing. This

The BBR Northern Regional
Finals was fortunate to be held
in conjunction with the WPRA
World
Finals
which
drew
contestants from all over the
United States. Ryan Pedone has
been a BBR member and avid
competitor with the association
since 2008. Pedone, a resident
of Decatur, TX, attended both
the Northern Regional Finals
and the OK-TX Regional Finals
the following month. She rode

Members Only race. Her Friday
entry paid off to the tune of

scoreboard. Townsend carried
home an OK-TX Regional Finals
trophy buckle and Wild Card at
the conclusion of the day. She
has been a member of the BBR
every year since 2006. She and

BBR Adds New Multi-Race to 2013 BBR World Finals Schedule
Norman, OK - BBR will feature a new Multi-Race in 2013. The Multi-Race will consist of the $2,500
Added New Member Non Qualifier (NMNQ) 5D plus two new classes for Gold Card members and
Junior members! Junior members (12 & Under) will be running for their own pot with $2,500
Added and A Cut Above trophy buckles to winners in each D. And Gold Card members can
look forward to a $2,500 Added 5D with Top Hand Trophy Saddles to division winners. Watch for
complete details in the coming BBR Entry Packet which will be sent out the first week of
February!

BBR to Introduce Select Stallion Stakes Bonus Fall of 2013
Norman, OK -Beginning in 2014 barrel horse breeders will be able to capitalize on program progeny competing
at BBR sanctioned events. Unlike other programs the BBR Select Stallion Stakes will be by invitation only with
"Invitational Selection Criteria" being based on a Proven Pedigree, Performance and/or Sire Record. To be
accepted a stallion must possess at least one of the following criteria; Be A Proven Runner and/or Performer;
be sired by a Leading Sire and out of a proven producer with at least one Proven full or half sibling; and/or be a
Proven Sire of Race and/or Performance Progeny. The term "proven" shall be defined as "official performance
record with AQHA, APHA, ApHC or Equi-Stat on the track and/or in the barrel race arena. BBR is extremely

help treat or prevent stomach
ulcers. Does it work?
A. Bismuth subsalicylate is
used in people to treat
diarrhea and gastric distress
such as nausea, indigestion
and heartburn.1 It is not
labeled for use in any animal!
In fact, in the case of horses
with ulcers, the use of

Lacinda Bengtson and Mustang
Sally (43 points); and 5) Lance

points).
In the Barrel Slot Race, which was
a timed class, the top placers were:
1) Lance Graves and Mustang Sally
with a time of :19.78; 2) Dusty
Voorhies and Stanger with a time
of :20.027; 3) Stephanie Swope and
Pierce with a time of :20.538; 4)
Melanie Kessler and Kat Von D
with a time of :20.853; and 5) Kelli
Semar and Magpie with a time of :
21.055.
Lance Graves’ Mustang Sally was
the highest adopted horse at the
event. Mustang Sally was adopted
by one of Graves’ clients for $1,100
and will be continuing her barrel
training in Oklahoma with Graves.
The trainers were competing for
their share of $25,000 in prize
money. The overall champion was
awarded $10,000, second-place
overall received $5,000, third-place
overall received $3,000, fourthplace overall received $2,000 and
fifth-place overall received $1,000.
The classes each paid $400 for first
place, $300 for second place, $250
for third place, $200 for fourth
place and $150 for fifth place.
The trainers picked up their
Mustangs August 3-4 from the
Bureau of Land Management
facility in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma,
and began training for the
competition. The horses were still
wild and virtually untouched at the
time of pickup, so the trainers had
to work to gain their trust before
beginning the training process.
There were no entry fees for the
event, and the Mustangs were
randomly assigned to trainers.

The Mustang Heritage
Foundation in cooperation with
the Bureau of Land Management
(www.blm.gov) created the
events to highlight the
recognized value of Mustangs
through a national training
competition. The events give the
public a unique opportunity to
see the results of wild horses
becoming trained mounts and
then have the chance to adopt
one of these treasured animals.
Since the inception of the
events in 2007, the Mustang
Heritage Foundation has placed
more than 3,500 Mustangs, and
an estimated 100,000 fans have
filled the stands and walked the
barns of events held across the

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her first
