Our Choir Emcee
CHARITY TRAYLOR FREEMAN
Charity is pleased to be joining us again as the emcee for our event. She is the
host of INsight, an entertainment show that airs weekdays right after Good
Morning America on 21Alive, the ABC affiliate in Fort Wayne, Indiana. You can
usually find her and husband Joe at a sporting event watching one of their
children who have decided their goal is to see just how many activities they can
join! They have cheerleaders, swimmers, basketball players, baseball players,
soccer players and football players. Don't worry, there are only four of them,
they just do more than one thing! Charity also coaches an all star cheer team and
teaches group exercise classes. She was a five-year member of Esprit during her
time at Southwestern High School.
ESPRIT would like to thank Charity for returning this year and for
making our Showcase such a fun and exciting day!
This activity made possible, in part, with support of the
Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment
for the Arts, a Federal agency
Welcome
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Southwestern High School for our annual
Ohio Valley Showcase. The ESPRIT boosters and I want to extend an invitation to
each one of you to sit back and enjoy this year’s showcase.
I am confident that you will have a memorable experience while here and want
to assure you that we will do everything possible to accommodate your needs. Each
group has a host sponsor to assist them - please don’t hesitate to ask one of them,
or any other of our many volunteers, for anything you may need.
Once again we are honored to host so many talented groups at this year’s
Jeff Bates
Principal
showcase. Your experience will allow you to see and hear some of the most talented
young people in the Midwest. All have put in countless hours of hard work and perspiration in their
routines and should be commended for their efforts.
This showcase could not be the success that it is if it were not for Southwestern’s Show Choir Director
- Mr. Rick Reckner. Please join me in congratulating Rick and his staff.
I sincerely hope that your visit to Southwestern High School is a pleasant one. Relax and prepare to be
entertained!!!
Welcome to Esprit’s Ohio Valley Showcase
RICk RECkNER/Director, is the Director of Vocal Music at Southwestern

The Southwestern Show Choir ESPRIT was established by Mr. Reckner in 1985 to provide

group has evolved into the show choir that you see today. ESPRIT has placed in the finals at
Amherst County, Anderson Highland, Bellmont, Bishop Luers, Cabell Midland, Central Crossing,
Edgewood, Grove City, Kettering Fairmont, Lebanon, Northrop, Norwell, Pekin, Princeton,

experience for Esprit, having designed many of their award-winning costumes and backdrops in the past
and present. In addition to the visual arts, Greg is very active with theatre, having played many lead roles
as well as serving as a board member for Madison Community Players, Inc. Greg also works as a graphic

In Loving Memory of
Greg Humphrey
Devoted ESPRIT Dad and Friend…
Greg had been a part of the ESPRIT family for many years, with his oldest daughter,
Kia, a past member, and now his youngest daughter, Tori, in her second year as an
ESPRIT member. Greg was very involved with ESPRIT and will always be
remembered for his dedication to the group. Greg helped staff all of our football
games; was co-chair for our OVS event for three years, and also helped secure
trophy sponsorships for that event; chaired the golf scramble; 4H Fair booth;
auction dinners; Extravaganza; and was past Vice President of the Boosters.

ESPRIT HISTORY IN THE MAKING
The ESPRIT Booster group would like to take the time to recognize this 2012 ESPRIT Group.
We, as parents, are PROUD to be part of such a great organization with such amazing kids, directors, and
choreographer. On Saturday, February 25, 2012, Southwestern ESPRIT went to Huntington North and Bellmont
to perform at two different schools. ESPRIT not only showed up, but they cleaned the houses as well, giving Rick
Reckner his first ever, in his 27 years, DOUBLE GRAND CHAMPION WINS IN ONE DAY! At Huntington North
they also came away with outstanding vocals, choreography, band, and stage crew!! At Bellmont they made
history with a 5-PEAT by winning GRAND CHAMPION status 5 years in a row!
