PRESIDENT OF NPAS It gives me great pleasure to send this message on the occasion of the 17th International Exhibition of Photography organized by the National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka (NPAS). NPAS is the pioneer in popularizing photography as an art and a profession in Sri Lanka since its inception in 1950. NPAS is a Charitable Organization approved by the Sri Lanka Government and also a registered body with the Tertiary and Vocational Educational Commission of Sri Lanka. Free Education was the main tool used by NPAS over a comprehensive period of 60 years in producing hundreds of talented Photographers for the nation. In conducting a 3 year diploma course, for enthusiasts from all parts of the island, the photographic knowledge and knowhow is shared not only by guidance through class room lectures and discussions every Sunday, monthly photo competitions, conducting field visits etc., but also organizing photographic exhibitions bi-annually at international level. This year too we have organized this International Exhibition for the 17th time in order to motivate photographers bothamateur and professional and also to meet and share knowledge among themselves. The large number of entries we received this year locally as well as internationally is an indication of the interest shown by camera users toward this branch of learning. DIRECTOR EXHIBITIONS I am so glad to send out this message for this catalogue as the Exhibition Chairman of the 17th International Exhibition of Photography organized by The National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka (NPAS). This exhibition has attracted entries from over 200 photographers representing 20 countries and as many as 2000 images were judged by an independent panel of judges. I am of the view that this event has provided an opportunity to many photographers to showcase their talent on an international platform. It is not an easy task to organize an international event of this spirit without the excellent support of the Main sponsor Leaf d & Ranpath Paper Companies, other sponsor Metropolitan Canon Photo Hub, Panel of Selectors, well-wishers and volunteers. Especially Mr. N.R. Abeyasinghe, Mr. Bandu Gunaratne, Mr. Udeni Alwis, Mr. Shantha Gunaratne and President & the Board of Directors of the NPAS. I extend my sincere gratitude to all of them.
