· I the Emerald Coast Barbershop Singers PRESENT "BARBERSHOP POTPOURRI" (A Variety of Old Songs) WITH SPECIAL GUEST QUARTE.T "SATURDAY'S HEROES" The 21st Annual Barbershop Harmony Concert '., ADDITIONAL GUEST QUARTETS SPECIAL GUEST QUARTET "SATURDAY'S HEROES" One of the finest quartets in the Sunshine District, this foursome has been pleasing audiences both in and outside of Florida for over six years. Just six weeks after forming in September of 1990, they took the stage in Tampa and bested 24 other quartets to claim the 1990;-91 District Chat;npionship. It was the fjrst time in 30 plus years that a quartet from Southwest Flo~ida ~ad taken top honors. Starting in 'January, 1993, the Heroes competed in five International Senior Quartet contests, finally winning their ChampionsMip gold medals in 1997. The quartet consists of: ""., Panhandlers .~ The Panhandlers are the 1998-1999 Sunshine District Senior's Quartet Champions; having won that honor at the District Convention in Jacksonville last October. They are members of the .Pensacola Fiesta Barbershop Chorus and they represent approximately 145 years of barbershop experience. Separately, they have sung in a dozen different quartets. \ Collectively, they have been singing together 8 Yz years. The members include: Billy Flynn, a semi-retired Westinghouse executive, singing-lead; Cass Phillips, a retired Naval Aviator, sings tenor; Bob Kean is-employed by Auto Trader Publication sings baritone; and Jeb Stewart is a retired USAF pilot and history profess who sings bass. I AI Rehkop, tenor, has WOR two society gold medals-with the Auto Towners in 1966 and with the Gentlemen's Agreement in 1971. AI retired after many years with the National Steel Corp., and is keeping active as a rental agent with the World Tennis Center Resort of Naples. Joe Mazzone, lead, is a r?tired airline Pil~t; In 1974 he won the SpCi~ty's Gold Medal astead of the International Champs, the Regents. He has given many concerts as a Christian Gospel soloist, and is active in church music throughout SW Florida. .! .. i Dave Wilkinson, -baritone, resides in Ft. Myers and works for the Lee County Library system. Betore he ~n~ Bob formed Saturday's Heroes, he, sang for several years in the Southwest Florida Road Show quartet. Dave also works as a nightclub entertainer. -::: Bob Summers, bass, hails from Ft. Myers and runs a w.o,rd proc~fi>sing company. Bob has won three District Quartet Championships, each ope in a different voice part. ,I Sugar Beats The Sugar Beats Quartet was formed in April of 19<)5. The first time together they liked the sound combination atld really enjoyed singing together. They have been busy performing the ,last three years throughout the southeastern United States in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Northwest Florida, sharing their unique sound and style of music. Their performance packages' include everything from rock-n-roll to gospel. The quartet includes: Karen Lawrence, tenor, works for the Okaloosa County Sheriffs Department, and dotes on herfamily. Mariene Pickett; lead, also directs the Sugar Beach Chorus, is the Music director/Organist at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and is employed at Hurlburt Field. Anne Collier, baritone, works for Beneficial Finance and along with her husband make it a point to never miss a Florida State football game.
