This Calendar outlines the Mississauga Halton (MH) and Central West (CW) Day
Services’ Winter 2016 activities and structured group offerings

We offer a wonderful variety of Drop-In resources for those not registered in Groups or
for those looking for activities between groups. Resources include but are not limited
to: surfing the web, billiards, board games, Wii games, Ping Pong, puzzles, and many
more. Drop–In services are offered at both the Mississauga and Central West offices
Monday to Friday from 9:30 AM-4:30 PM.

MH’s JAVA JIM’S Café is proudly sponsored by Starbucks and serves your favorite
Java on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM. Be sure to check it out!

Test and improve your skills in an arousing game of chess or checkers. This is a great group if you are
looking to enhance your concentration skills and thinking skills, while socializing with your friends.

These groups are implemented ONLY WHEN there are enough clients interested to facilitate an
appropriate group size.
These groups cannot be registered through Day Services, therefore they are not included on the
Day Services registration sheet.
Please contact your Case Manager, Team Leader, or Senior Staff if you’re interested in registering for any
of the following groups.
Women`s Group (Thursdays at the Mississauga Location; Wednesdays in Orangeville)
An opportunity for the PHD ABIS ladies to come together and make new friends. This group fosters the
sharing of experiences, being supportive and supported, and helps to develop problem solving as well as
other skills.
Men`s Group (Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Mississauga Location; Thursdays in Orangeville)
This group allows the men of PHD ABIS to come together, socialize, share and discuss the daily experiences of living
with an ABI.
SUBI– Substance Use and Brain Injury (Fridays at the Mississauga Location)
This group’s focus is to discuss the effects of alcohol and drugs on brain injury. It explores coping strategies for the life
addiction cycle, regaining control over your life, developing a new support network. You will meet, support, and be
supported by people who share similar experiences.
Family Support Group (2nd Tuesday of the month at the Mississauga Location; the 3rd Thursday of the month
in Orangeville)
This support group focuses on information exchange between families and caregivers. It provides an
opportunity for family members and caregivers to learn from each other`s experiences.

How to Register
To register, please bring your cheque book or cash with your completed registration form to a Day
Services staff. Please see a Day Services staff, the Day program Group Leader, or your Case Manager
if you need help completing the form. All groups are first come-first served. Registration begins June
1st but if you like, you can bring in your registration form earlier. Alternatively, you may complete
the form on-line on the ’What’s Happening’ page at www.phdabis.org.
Registration Begins December 14th, 2015 at 9:30 AM.

BOUNDLESS
PHD ABIS has been partnering with Boundless Adventures for more
than 16 years and has been offering multiple trips per year for
PHD ABIS clients and families.
The adventure takes place in the north camp of Bancroft and
transportation and meals are provided.
The aim for Boundless Adventures is to inspire, challenge
and overcome obstacles. Most important are
emerging new friendships, lifelong memories and the courage and
confidence to try new and exciting adventures.
Summer activities offered: Canoeing, camping, wall climbing, ropes
course, and white-water rafting
Winter activities offered: cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, building
snow shelters, sledding, boot hockey, ice fishing, and maple syrup
tapping.
