Background Sled Island is an annual four-day independent music and arts festival in Calgary,
Alberta that brings together over 300 artists and bands in more than 30 venues throughout the
city. Since 2007, Sled Island’s innovative, eclectic programming and independent spirit have
combined with Calgary’s youthful energy to produce a festival that now attracts a diverse and
global audience, draws the attention of local, national and international media, and was recently
voted one of the top 10 music festivals in Canada by listeners of CBC Radio 3.
As the festival’s fifth anniversary approaches, scheduled to take place from June 22 – 26,
2011, Sled Island is seeking new festival partners and sponsors that wish to support the arts
in Calgary and in Western Canada. The opportunities for partnership are limitless, and Sled
Island would be very pleased to discuss the many creative ways that organizations and private
businesses can become part of this young and exciting festival.

Our Audience In 2010, Sled Island attracted over 3 600 music and art-loving ticket holders,
over 1 000 musicians, filmmakers and visual artists, 400 volunteers, and 300 journalists and
industry professionals from around the world.
Sled Island's audience, which has grown by 20% annually, is primarily 18 – 34 years old,
educated, employed, and living in Calgary. More importantly, Sled Island’s audience is made
up of cultural tastemakers; discriminating fans of music and art. They are dynamic consumers,
particular in their tastes and are highly media aware. As opinion leaders, they are all-too
willing to voice their preferences through word-of-mouth and social media (blogs, social
networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, etc.). As such, they represent an important but
traditionally hard-to-reach segment of the market. As Sled Island has become a trusted brand
through its presentation of exciting, buzz-worthy music and arts programming, Sled Island
represents a perfect means with which to approach this segment.

Keys to Success Sled Island is an ambitious festival that, in only four years, has captured
the attention and earned the adoration of artists, media and a growing audience of culturally
aware fans of music and art. Sled Island is proud of the incredible success it has achieved,

In addition to the invaluable support it receives each year from more than 400 volunteers
