www.greenlakesnowmobileclub.ca The Snowpoke News 176 Green Lake South Rd. 70 Mile House BC, V0K 2K2 250-456-7751 Christmas Dinner and Dance - Saturday December 19th The Christmas Party was successful once again and lots of fun. Thanks to everyone who donated to the silent auction, the cookies for the raffle and food for the pot luck that went so nicely with the turkey and ham . The music of the "Classmates" was great. Photos: Bob Walker Thanks to Bob for lighting the fire to get us started. Thanks to everyone. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ! 1 …..Miriam and Pat www.greenlakesnowmobileclub.ca President’s Report …..... John Sullivan We had a good snow start to the season; enough for a short but rough ride. We need a bit more snow before the season can really start. I spend half my time looking at the weather site and hoping that a combination of high temperatures and rain don’t rob us of what snow we have. The other half of the time is spent watching predictions for 1 – 3 cm. of snow turn into slightly overcast predictions turn into a blue sky reality. Photo: Bob Walker I’ve used this time to put my paper bundles together for each machine: ownership, license, liability insurance, ICBC sticker, photocopy of driver’s license and road crossing permits for both the 100 Mile and Clinton area. (“The system is too complex” is an understatement.) My machines started and were moved close to the house in anticipation. The Phazer got inside the garage for some TLC. Who designed a machine that you have to take the fuel tank off to replace the plugs? Am I ready for the season? My machine maybe, me for sure! Snowfall last week has added another 6 to 8 inches. We used the opportunity to do 2 days of trail clearing and installing the signs at the final 4 sites. The sign project partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails have enhanced our trail system enormously. Signs and maps can be found at major intersections throughout our trails. Although we have done some trail maintenance the high winds have meant downed trees are still to be anticipated. Be careful driving your sleds. Take advantage of this early start and enjoy the tails. Nobody can predict what the season will bring. At the club, Art went to town and insured and registered both of our groomer sleds. An examination of them showed they needed a few repairs before the season start. Parts have been ordered, and Peter and Art will have worked on the repairs by the time of this newsletter. Continuous thanks to both for their dedication. On November 14 . Peter and myself attended the BCSF general meeting in Vernon. The BCSF currently has only 14% of the province’s 45,000 sledders. The club has set a priority to grow its membership. The meeting brainstormed a number of ideas for clubs to increase their membership base. The most promising was the use of facebook to promote the clubs and attract a younger membership. Peter and Cheryl have undertaken to promote our facebook presence. The BCSF is using a new online membership program. The software is in a beta form and clubs are experiencing startup problems. The program will eventually allow online membership registration and payments. On the social side Steve and Jenny’s Snowflake Dinner was a great success. We look forward to Pat and Miriams’s Christmas Dance and Jack’s New Years party. Keep January 31 open for the Gold Rush Trail Ride and Dinner followed by Snowarama on Feb .7. Best wishes for the season and do a snow dance on the holidays. .… John Executive Meeting General Meeting Wed Dec 30, 2015 @ 7 PM Mon Jan 4, 2016 @ 7 PM Wed Jan 27, 2016 @ 7PM Mon Feb 1, 2016 @ 7PM Wed Mar 2, 2016 @ 7PM Mon Mar 7, 2016 @ 7PM 2 www.greenlakesnowmobileclub.ca Commemorative Ride on the Gold Rush GLSC Executive Snowmobile Trail (GRST) President: John Sullivan 250-706-8562 Art Groves 250-456-2112 Secretary: Lorrie Fleming 250-456-7566 Treasurer: Rita Dixon 250-456-7529 Directors: Steve Gehl 250-456-7493 Miriam Livingston 250-456-7531 Warren Lowe 250-456-7506 Pat Olsoff 250-456-6054 Membership: Kim Lowe 250-456-7506 Hall Rentals: Cheryl Groves 250-456-2112 Bob Walker 250-456-7566 Vice President: The BCSF is in the planning stage of a ride on the GRST this coming season, as 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the BCSF. The plan is to ride from Kamloops to Wells and then back the same route. They are expecting 30 riders for the whole ride and they also anticipate riders and clubs to join in at each leg of the ride. The ride will start in Kamloops January 31, 2016 with the first layover in the 70 Mile Area. We have been on 2 conference calls and have ideas on how to get our club involved. We are thinking of: January 31st - Riding out to Moose or Hammer Lake to meet the riders and lead them through our trail system. January 31st - Hold a pot luck dinner at the Clubhouse for the riders February 1st - Ride with the group to the next Layover at the Hills Health Ranch at the 108 and stay the night. February 2nd - Club Riders return to Green Lake February 7th - Ride Wrap up event in 100 Mile February 8th - GRST ride Returns to Kamloops (Lunch or ? for the riders) As this is still in the planning stage, any ideas, questions or concerns would be welcomed. We left the clubhouse with seven sleds - Frank being our leader and Peter bringing up the rear making sure everyone stayed in line ( didn’t break down, crash, miss a turn, run out of gas, hit a moose, lose luggage, etc, etc!) No problems on this trip, but that is the reason for the ‘sweeper’ at the back of the group. We acquired three more sleds (4 riders) at 70 Mile and continued westward (ho!), bringing the total to 10 machines / 11 riders. The snow conditions were really quite good and the weather perfect for riding. Oh! … the previously mentioned ‘no problems’ was not exactly true - Peter and Leroy had to make a few unscheduled stops to recover the chainsaw (see ‘luggage’ above!) - gotta use bigger bungee cords, Leroy! Thanks for the ride, Frank! Now that I have checked my GPS, I know where we were ! (see below) Hopefully we get lots more snow (and many rides) this winter. …..Bob Walker...
