are, Frank Navarro (District
3), Deirdre Bennett (District
5), and Isaac Suchil (District
6). At the same time, two
other elected members representing the City of Colton
were re-elected and they are
Eileen Gomez (City Clerk)
and Aurelio De La Torre
(City Treasurer).
Before the newly elected
officials took their seats at
the dais, outgoing council
members Vincent Yzaguirre and Alex Perez received
plaques and letters of appreciation for their outstanding
past work from Congressman Joe Baca, County Supervisor for the 5th District,
Chairperson Josie Gonzales
and Colton Mayor Sarah
Zamora. Congressman Baca
pointed out the dedication
and sacrifices they went
through to represent their
constituents and praised
them for being able to accomplish the many tasks
that they worked on while in
office.
Ex-councilman
Perez
thanked Mayor Zamora for
showing confidence in his
abilities early on and for giving him a helping hand up.
Ex- councilman Yzaguirre
also praised the Mayor and
his colleagues on the council
and said, “It has been an honor to work with the Mayor
and council on so many different issues that have been
so crucial to the ongoing
welfare of the City. I wish
each of the newly elected
council members nothing
but the best and I am always
available to give them a different perspective on issues,
if they so desire. I have enjoyed my time on the Colton
council and will cherish the
moments shared with each
of the council members who
were a part of my tenure.”
After Congressman Joe
Baca Sr. administered the
oath of office to the newly
elected officers and the Certificate of Election was issued by the City Clerk Eileen Gomez, Mayor Sarah
Zamora pinned the City of
Colton pin on the lapels of
each of the officers and chal-
lenged them to continue to
wear it, showing their continued service for the citizens of Colton.
Once this procedural
matter was done, Zamora
asked the incoming officers
to say a few words about
what they saw as their mission for the City would be.
Councilman Navarro stated
that a new journey is about
to begin for him on representing the City of Colton
in the best manner possible
and serving the Colton citizenry to the best of his abilities. He said, “I’m looking forward to the many
challenges that lie ahead
and working with all of the
council members hand in
hand.” Councilman Isaac
Suchil said, “I feel alone
and nervous up here, but I
know that will soon change.
I want to thank so many
people who have supported
me for getting back on the
council, but the main support of my life, my lovely
wife Regina, has made this
all happen for me once
again. I love her so much.
One of my first goals is to
revisit the electrical utility charges being charged
to residents and see how
we can maybe lower them
in the future.” Re-elected
council person Deirdre H.
Bennett echoed the same
thoughts about looking at
the high utility charges and
seeing how they can be adjusted, and gave her husband Bruce loving recognition for his tireless work
representing her in District
5 during the months prior
to Election Day.
Both the City Treasurer
Aurelio De La Torre and
City Clerk Eileen Gomez
thanked their family and
friends for support during their re-election bids,
and Eileen said, “I love my
job, and I hope to continue
to show that in the service
I provide to the citizens of
Colton for the next four
years and beyond.”
The City of Colton seems
to have a strong quality of
elected officials to move
them through the different
travails that will come upon
them in the future months
and years.

Work on CHS Beautification Project Continues
By: Breeanna Jent
Work on Colton High
School’s (CHS) Beautification
Project continues after more
than $9,000 has been donated
by community members and
leaders to assist in the restoration of the city’s first high
school.
Several beautification projects have been proposed by the
CHS student body, including
requests for a waterfall, additional trash and recycling bins,
the repainting of lunch benches, painted and repaired baseball dugouts, a shade shelter in
the outdoors lunch area and a
communal garden area which
will be maintained by students
in the CHS PossAbilities club.
The remodeling of a special
education classroom to model
the inside of an apartment was
also proposed.
Currently, portions of the
school— including the inside
of the Ken Hubbs Gymnasium— have been given fresh
coats of paint, said Principal
Corridan. In addition, plans to
erect stone walls in front of the
entrance to the high school, as
well as the Whitmer Auditorium, are in the works.
“With our S-3 Grant,” said
Corridan, “half of the things
we’ve done are free. We’ve
been receiving donations left
and right,” she said, adding that
most of the project proposals
are possible to construct.”
With the painting nearly
complete, the student projects on the school have started
this week, beginning with the
landscaping of the area directly
in front of the Whitmer Auditorium, which stands near
the front main entrance to the
school.
Next June a Curb Appeal
Project, a separate project
funded by the Colton Joint
Unified Board of Education
Facilities Department through
Measure G, will commence.
This project, complementary
to the campus’s Beautification
Project, will renew the outside of the school along Valley
landmark since 1981, when it
was placed in front of the City
Hall of the City of San Bernardino. It is considered the first
“bigger than life statue” of Dr.
King. It now is in serious need
of repair and warrants professional renovation and a plan for
sustained maintenance.
The group quickly recognized that as City funds are not
available for the restoration and
maintenance of the statue, there
must be an effort to raise funds
from private and corporate donors, as well as to seek grants
and other sources of revenue.
“We are also committed to
ensuring young and old people
alike do not forget Dr. Martin Luther King, his mission
and legacy and what the statue
stands for: civil rights, equality,
co-existence, and respect for
the use of power, the struggle,
challenge and the plight for the
dream to live on,” said Francis Grice, committee member.
“Our goal is to have the statue
renovated and ready for unveiling at a celebration scheduled for
January 2013,” said Grice.
The committee is in the process of procuring a contractor
for the restoration. The initial
renovation will cost approximately $8,500 with an annual
maintenance charge of approximately $1,500. The Black Culture Foundation has agreed to
use their 501(C)3 as a conduit
to raise and disperse the project’s
funds.
The pressing need to restore
the statue to its original condition and to insure its maintenance has become the impetus
for public-spirited citizens of the
greater San Bernardino area to
commit themselves to the following objectives:
First, to assure the ongoing maintenance of the statue
through the creation of an Endowment, the income from
which would be used for the

Auditorium depicts a texturized stone walling in front of
the auditorium. The wall is a part of the school’s Curb Appeal Project, a seperate project that complements the
school-wide Beautification Project.
Boulevard and Rancho Avenue. Renovations include concrete, texturized walls near the
administration building— the
main entrance to the school—
which faces Valley Boulevard.
Other improvements include
the addition of new flora surrounding the school.
“With the curb appeal
project,” said Corridan, “the
wrought iron fence line will be
pushed back. Then new, stone
walls will be erected in front
of Whitmer Auditorium. That
same stone will be replicated
at the front of the school, at an
angle, and it will say ‘Colton
High School.’”
Additionally, stone seating
walls will be placed along the
entrance to the Whitmer Auditorium.
The Curb Appeal Project
will also extend to the Hubbs
Gym, where the chain-link
fence which currently stands
in front of the building will be
removed, and new landscaping
will be done.
Corridan shared that reports indicate that the Curb
Appeal Project should conclude by next fall, in time for
the 2013-2014 school year.
Local Organizations Stand in Financial Gap to Repair
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Statue in San Bernardino
Local groups and community leaders are working
together to improve San
Bernardino’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. statue, a city
landmark since 1981.
Dr. Martin Luther King’s
statue is showing wear. The
11-foot tall historic monument
is deteriorating, the coating of
paste wax has dulled, and the
base is cracked. To solve the
problem, more than 30 local
groups and community leaders
have come together to carry out
the sole mission of “Saving the
MLK Statue.”
The Martin Luther King, Jr.
monument has been a treasured
maintenance of the statue including providing adequate insurance.
Second, to develop a master
plan for the beautification and
enhancement of the area immediately surrounding the statue
including attractive landscaping.
Third, to create an educational component to the statue
that would be used by schools in
their teaching of American history, attract visitors, and serve to
develop a greater appreciation of
the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr.
Last, to develop a master
plan for the beautification and
enhancement of the entire City
Hall plaza area with the aim being to make it a tourist attraction. For more information,
contact Joseph Williams at 909754-1068. All checks should be
made payable to: Black Culture
Foundation. Mail checks to: E.
Garcia, PO Box 7288, San Bernardino, CA, 92411.

A Christmas Story
By: Phil Carlisle, CEO
Loma Linda Chamber of
Commerce
I bet you have a special
Christmas memory. I know
I do. I was four years old. We
lived in Des Moines, Iowa.
I found out that my parents
had planned a trip to California to spend Christmas
with family in Mentone. I
immediately went into panic mode. How could they?
What about Santa? He will
come to our house on
Christmas Eve and no
one will be home! Will
he leave presents? Will
he just move on to the
next house? This will
never do!
I must have made
quite a fuss about this.
My mother and father,
brother and sister came
up with quite a plan
for my benefit. I have
never forgotten, and
appreciate, what they
did for me that Christmas
season.
It was a week before
Christmas. My mother said
to me, and to my brother
and sister, “We need to get
down to the basement right
now!” She herded us down
into the basement and we sat
on the stairs with the lights
out. I remember wondering
what in the world was going
on.
Suddenly I heard from
inside the house some jingling of bells, stomping of
feet across the floor, and a
big, “Ho Ho Ho!” Could it
be? Was Santa here early? I
remember jumping up to
run upstairs and my brother
almost tackling me to keep
me there. Finally I heard
Santa say in a low, belly-like
voice, “Merry Christmas to
all, and to all a good night!”
We went back upstairs
and there were the
gifts under the tree!
My parents had contacted Santa and got
him to come early.
Who knew?
One last part to my
story. It wasn’t until
many years later that
it occurred to me:
Where was my father
while Santa visited our
home? I bet you can
guess!

Adopting Philosophies of Excellence
M anzoor M assey
Ph.D., MPH
As a veteran of leadership
training with over 30 years of
experience, Dr. Massey has
helped thousands of individuals find the path to success
in the personal, professional,
and financial aspects of their
lives. What these individuals
have learned is that success
is a product of Mind Realignment. When the mind
changes, so does everything
else in our lives. We must realign our minds so that we
may chart a new course on
the road to excellence.
Of his many philosophies,
Dr. Massey encourages his
clients to adopt is a simple
yet life changing concept
called the Sun Philosophy.
Although we speak of the
sunrise and sunset, the truth
is there is no such thing. The
sun does not set so it has no
need to rise. Just as the sun
is always shining despite the
clouds, rain, fog, or darkness
that blankets the earth, we
too can develop these principles and practices to be a beacon of light to help guide the
paths of others. Those who
adopt the Sun Philosophy do
not abandon their duty and
stand ground regardless of
the consequences. They remain responsible in spite of
other’s lack of responsibility.
Just as the sun creates solar
power to generate energy,
they always energize and
empower others. They do
not allow their environment
to dictate their conduct. Instead, they continue to shine
during the rainstorms of life.
Without the sun there would
be no rainbows. By adopting
the Sun Philosophy, you can
be a positive force in the lives
of others, shedding rays of
light onto the world around
you and watching everything around you grow. Are
you a positive force within
your circles of friends and
family? Do you make others
feel special and important?
Do you defend your values
despite pressure to abandon
your principles? When you
realign your mind you can
answer yes to these questions. If you want to learn
more of these simple, lifechanging concepts to change
your life and realize your
full potential, read “Mind
Realignment for Excellence
- Naked Secrets for Building a Better You.” It includes
short, simple to read chapters geared for busy professionals who want to change
their lives. Dr. Massey has
implemented these lessons
into his Mind Realignment
for Excellence Seminars for
business owners and their
teams. If you want your
leadership team and staff to
take your company to the
next level of excellence, call
today at 661-304-1080 and
schedule a Mind Realign-
ment Training seminar for
your business.
Dr. Massey is the owner
of several businesses, including Massey Health Insurance Services and Financial
Planning Corporation, as
well as the Rose Villa elderly
care community in Grand
Terrace. He has served as
President of the San Bernardino Crossroads Rotary
for two years and served the
U.S. government for over 25
years in the field of public
health.
He says he has had no
greater success in life than
when he has helped to make
positive differences in the
lives of others. You too can
be a force of success, positivity, and greatness by learning
what it takes to realign your
thinking in order to achieve
excellence.

(BPT) - Giving a great
gift basket is like bestowing a
buffet of gifts on your loved
one, and when the wellput-together gift basket is
opened, well, that’s a magical
moment. Beneath the pretty
decorations lie enchanting
mysteries that emerge oneby-one to the delight of the
recipient.
The personal aspects of a
gift basket are also endearing.
You can customize a gift basket to the occasion (holiday,
birthday, retirement, etc.)
and tastes of the recipient,
and taking the time to do so
shows your thoughtfulness
and caring. Building a great
gift basket can be fun and
easy.
The gift experts at Crack-
er Barrel Old Country Store
offer some advice for putting
together a gift basket that will
charm any recipient:
The first steps begin by
deciding what to put in the
gift basket - packaged food,
gourmet coffees, collegiate
items, apparel, candles, personal care items like soaps
or lotions, cooking utensils,
books, jewelry, home decor
items, gardening tools, ornaments, picture frames, etc.
Practically any hobby or area
of interest can be an inspiration for a gift basket. Base
your choice on the recipient’s
personality and interests.
Next, choose a container.
Baskets, of course, are the
classic container, but don’t
overlook other options, es-

On Dec. 2, the Armenta
Family hosted a community
reception in recognition of
Armenta’s recent appointment as Partner. The community reception was hosted
at the Upland Hills Country
Club. Over 100 guests attended, including community
leaders SBCCD Trustee Gloria Macias Harrison, Colton
Joint Unified School District
(CJUSD) Assistant Superintendent Ingrid Munsterman,
Roberta Shouse, and Nancy
Ruth White. Also in attendance were CJUSD Board
of Education Members Dan

President Roger Kowalski.
Prior to working with Anderson, Armenta & Associates,
Armenta worked for seven
years as an attorney at Bensinger, Ritt, Tai & Thvedt in
Pasadena, where he practiced
primarily in the areas of Business Litigation and Federal
Copyright Law.
He was admitted to The

and received a Doctor of Law
(J.D.) from USC Law School
in 2001. In 1998, he received
a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) from
the University of California

intern with the Inland Empire

He grew up in Colton and
Grand Terrace. He is a product
of CJUSD schools, graduating from Colton High School

in the City of Grand Terrace,

pecially if they fit the overall theme you’ve chosen. For
example, load a toy football
helmet with items inspired
by your recipient’s favorite
football team. A large stockpot can be ideal for holding
cooking utensils for a foodie
or budding chef. A planter
makes a useful and decorative container for gardening
tools.
Arranging items
Once you’ve chosen the
perfect container, think about
how you’ll arrange the items
that go in it. First, add some
decorative shredding (available in craft stores, or make
your own with colored paper
and a paper shredder) to help
stabilize items in the container and make it look even
more attractive. Then, follow
these rules of thumb for arranging items:
* Place tallest items in the
back. If you’re using a round
container, choose a side to
serve as a visual “back.”
* Moving forward, stair
step the rest of your items
from tall to short. It’s OK
if the rows are not perfectly
straight or even. In fact, a
little variance in the arrangement will make the basket
look even more appealing.
* Be sure to place packaged
items with the most interesting side facing forward so it’s
immediately visible. For example, if you’ve included a
bag of the recipient’s favorite
coffee, make sure the brand
name is showing so he or she

Let your creative expressions come to life as you build
a personal gift basket. Your family and friends will be
touched by your unique items and arrangements.
will be able to tell at a glance
what’s in the basket.
* Be careful not to completely hide any items. It’s
fine to have things peeping
through here or there, but
avoid burying anything on
the bottom. Buried items
could potentially get lost and
tossed out with the shredding.
* If you need to hold items
in place, secure them using
some glue lines or glue dots
(also available in craft stores.)
Fitting everything snugly is
the key.
The finishing touches
Once your basket is artful-
ly filled, place the entire container in a large cellophane
bag. Gather the bag above the
contents of the basket, then tie
a bow at the narrowest part of
the gathered bag. For smaller
containers, pull the corners of
the bag under the container
and tape them. Trim any excess bag at the top.
You can either hand-deliver your gift basket, which
gives you the instant gratification of seeing the surprise
and happiness on your loved
one’s face, or ship it if that’s
more convenient and practical. When shipping, be sure to
package your basket securely.

Travel Tips for a Safe and Joyful Holiday Season
(BPT) - You’ve managed to navigate the holiday
crowds at the post office,
the mall and the office party, but you still need to get
over the river and through
the woods to gatherings
with family and friends.
Before you hit the roads,
rails or skies this holiday
season, dash through these
helpful tips to make your
trip as jolly as possible and,
while you’re away, help you
get a good night’s sleep.
Be prepared: Don’t forget
the necessities for the inevitable travel delay when
packing your luggage and
gifts.
Pack each child a personal travel bag with surprise
snacks, new books, small
toys, art supplies and a travel-sized blanket and pillow.
Bring yourself a book,
crossword puzzle or correspondence to catch up on.

ups ensures you will all arrive at your destination in a
festive mood.
Avoid the lines: Fly at
non-peak hours by booking
an early morning f light or a
late night red-eye when airports tend to be less crowded.
Pre-printing your boarding pass at home allows you
to bypass the ticketing agent
and self-serve kiosk.
If you don’t have to check

Click With Confidence: Three Tips to Protect
Your Cyber Privacy When Shopping Online
(BPT) - If the growing online shopping statistics from
the past few years have been
any indication, buyers will
again be flocking to online
retailers this holiday season
- perhaps in larger numbers
than ever before.
However, as people become increasingly savvier as
Web shoppers, awareness and
concerns about online privacy
and safety have also grown. As
many as 91 percent of consumers say that they’re concerned
about privacy when shopping
online. Frequent news stories
about consumer information
being sold or mishandled
have helped contribute to an
atmosphere of mistrust, and
more than half of consumers
say they don’t trust businesses
with their personal information. For those who love the
convenience and choice that
come along with online shopping, there are a few ways to
ensure that your information
is kept safe and private.
1. Read privacy policies.
You’ve probably seen them
countless times, but how often have you actually read
a privacy policy? If you’ve
shopped without reading,
you’re certainly not alone.
While 97 percent of websites have a privacy policy,
those documents average
nearly 2,500 words - which
is almost twice as long as the
Declaration of Independence.
It would take the average person at least 10 minutes to read
that, and not too many online
shoppers want to spend that
much time. However, reading
the privacy policy will give
you the details about what a
site is doing to keep your information safe.
2. Adjust your privacy settings. With a bit of tweaking,
you can adjust your cookies and make your computer
more protected and cut down
on inadvertent data leakage. However, be prepared
to spend some time doing
this, and remember that each
browser is different. If you use
multiple browsers on multiple computers, you’ll need
to configure them all to your
preferences. If making those
changes is beyond the scope
of your technological knowledge, you can try asking for
help from a savvy friend or
family member, or an electronics store employee might
be able to help.

A Guest-Friendly Home is Easier Than You Think
(BPT) - One of the many
exciting and sometimes stressful parts of the holiday season
is entertaining at home with
friends and family. To prepare for their arrival you may
be tempted to just clean the
kitchen counters, toss a few
extra towels in the guest bathroom and ignore the rest of
the house. Instead, your visitors will enjoy the party more
if they have full access to an
open, organized and welcoming home.
Knowing where to start
is the most important thing.
Lifestyle guru Susie Coelho
has provided entertaining
tips for the home on HGTV,
“Oprah,” “Today” and “The
View” and knows just what to
do.
Tip No. 1: Food can make or
break a celebration. Start your
preparations by stocking the
bar and cleaning the kitchen.
Set the table or buffet before
people arrive. There is a good
chance some of the seating for
your gathering will be located
in the kitchen area. Make certain the kitchen is clean and
the sink area is cleared of all
food prep materials. If your
garbage disposal has an odor,
your guests will be sure to
notice. Before the party starts,
drop in a Power Pack of Liquid-Plumr Disposal + Drain
Foaming Cleaner and run
the disposal. The fresh citrus
scent indicates your disposal
is cleaned and deodorized,
eliminating the chance of an
embarrassing lingering smell
being sensed by your guests.
“If you decide to host a
holiday event or New Year’s
Eve party, ask your guests to
participate by bringing an appetizer on a decorative platter.
This will add different flavors
to your event and help encourage conversations about
the combination of foods prepared,” Coelho says.- Also,
encourage them to match the
theme of the gathering, like
chips and salsa for a Mexican-themed party or olives,
hummus and pita bread for a
Greek-themed party.
Tip No. 2: Once the space
is clean and the food is ready,
add simple decor to make the
space warm and inviting.
When decorating the seating and buffet areas, Coelho
suggests going simple with tea
lights in glass votive jars and
choosing a one or two-tone
color palette for dishes, napkins and flowers.
“For beautiful ambiance
and magical lighting, arrange
candles down the center of
the table,” she says. “If you
want to add some greenery
among them for the holidays,
you can, but keep it simple.”
In addition to the candles
as centerpieces, Coelho also
recommends making the food
part of the display as well.
“Contrast is a buffet’s best
friend and you can find it in
different heights, sizes, colors
of the food, dishes and accessories. I have used everything
from fabrics, herbs and pottery to flowers, candles and
vases, turned over a dish to get
height and used an odd container for display,” she says.
Tip No. 3: The more room
you have to mingle, the merrier everyone will be.
As people start making
themselves comfortable, they
won’t just stay in the kitchen.
Having all areas of the house
clean and open will invite
guests to gather and socialize,
keeping the party going longer. One room your guests
will be sure to visit is the bathroom. Make certain you have
the room stocked with plenty
of paper products as well as
soap and hand lotion. Consider also placing a decorative
candle in the room to add a
festive glow for ambiance.
Most importantly, be prepared for clogged drains in
the bathroom and kitchen
sinks, which could disrupt the
flow of the party. “A clogged
sink drain always comes at
the wrong time,” says Coelho.
“To avoid these inconvenient
(BPT) - If you are like
most Americans, you will
likely spend an average of
$764 on gifts alone this holiday season, according to a
Gallup survey. When totaling up the cost of gifts with
extra trips to the grocery
store, dinners out to toast
the season and travel costs
to visit loved ones, you’re
looking at quite a holiday
spending spree. While we
all recognize that we spend
a little extra during the holiday season, there are ways to
give yourself a present this
season and have your money
working for you. With a little
savvy planning, families can
lessen the burden of holiday
expenses on their budgets
and earn some added value
with their purchases.
“Not everyone has to
shop for a family of eight
like me, but no matter what
size your family, those holiday expenses can quickly
add up,” says Colleen Burns,
a savings expert, who is also
known as “The Mom on
the Run” and Shell spokesperson. “The good news is
there are always things you
can do to keep your costs
down without sacrificing all
those fun gifts, meals and
travel plans.”
Here are a few tips for
keeping your holiday expenses down this year:
Choose your food wisely:
When grocery shopping,
consider alternating frozen,
canned or dried items for
fresh ones to help reduce
costs. These items often have
the same - or even better nutritional values as fresh
foods because they’re pro-
cessed quickly. When eating out, choose a lunch item
rather than a more expensive
dinner entree option.
Earn rewards: Take advantage of loyalty programs
that help you earn rewards
for significant savings. One
example, the new Fuel Rewards Network program, or
FRN program, allows you
to earn rewards on everyday
purchases that are redeemable for potentially huge fuel
savings at participating Shell
stations.
Here’s how it works:
when shopping for clothes,
household supplies or even
holiday gifts online, simply
go to the Online Mall found
on fuelrewards.com to find
your favorite brand name
online retailers like BestBuy.com and jcpenney. You
can earn 5 cents per gallon
in Fuel Rewards savings for
every $50 you spend, with
some online merchants offering two times, five times,
10 times rewards or more
so you can multiply your
savings even faster. You can
also earn additional rewards
when dining at participating
local restaurants, grocery
shopping at participating
grocery stores and when using eCoupons downloaded
from fuelrewards.com.
While the average saving
is around 32 cents per gallon
according to fuelrewards.
com, some savvy consumers have saved really big and
paid just pennies per gallon
on Shell fuel. You can learn
more and sign up for the free
FRN program by picking up
an FRN Card at a participating Shell station and activating it online at fuelrewards.
com. You can also request an
FRN Card online at fuelrewards.com during the sign
up process. Program availability and ways to save vary
by location.
Comparison shop: Let technology do the hard part for
you - try one of those handy
shopping apps to compare
prices so you know exactly
where to go to find the best
deals. You can check out
pricing and deals at home or
on your mobile device - perfect for people on the go.
Check labels: Always read
the tags and labels on what
you purchase. When shopping for clothes, avoid purchasing clothing with tags
that stipulate dry clean only.
The ongoing cost of cleaning
the garment will quickly exceed the original price. And
at the grocery store, always
look for an expiration date
to avoid wasting food and

situations, I recommend keeping two products handy at all
times: Liquid-Plumr Double

Now that you have prepared your home for guests

Bidders If you are considering
bidding on this property lien,
you should understand that
there are risks involved in bidding at a Trustee auction. You

on the property itself. Placing
the highest bid at a Trustee
auction does not automatically
entitle you to free and clear
ownership of the property. You
should also be aware that the
lien being auctioned off may
be a junior lien. If you are the
highest bidder at the auction,
you are or may be responsible
for paying off all liens senior
to the lien being auctioned off,
before you can receive clear
title to the property. You are
encouraged to investigate the
existence, priority, and size
of outstanding liens that may
exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s
office or a title insurance
company, either of which may
charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either
of these resources, you should
be aware that the same Lender
may hold more than one mortgage or Deed of Trust on the
property. Notice to Property
Owner The sale date shown
on this Notice of Sale may be
postponed one or more times
by the Mortgagee, Beneficiary,
Trustee, or a court, pursuant

Create an Inviting Ambiance With Holiday Home Lights
(BPT) - When it
comes to decorating with
lights for the holidays,
there are unlimited
ways to add twinkle to
the inside as well as the
outside of your home.
Some people favor
an elegant, restrained
sprinkling of lights
around a door, while
others go for a more
exuberant display of
illumination on virtually
every surface.
The
American
Lighting
Association
(ALA) offers some
holiday lighting tips and
ideas:
Make your home’s
entrance a priority. The
front door is more
than just the entryway
into your home; it’s
also a welcoming first
impression for family
and friends. Start by
adding a few, easy-toinstall landscape uplights
to highlight trees and
shrubs, or path lighting
to illuminate a sidewalk
or driveway.
“Tree lighting uses the
heights of trees to spread
the light out in a soft
and subtle way to bathe
the area in light,” says
Richard Lentz, owner
of Dallas-based Lentz
Landscape Lighting and
its interiors division
Lentz Services.
Do-it-yourself
tip:
Go for low-voltage
landscape lights, which
are easy to install and
consume less energy.
Add drama with colorchanging lights. Newer
LED lights can add
custom color scenes that
complement a specific
holiday
decorating
mood. You can produce
the exact ambiance you
room. “It’s often the
smallest room, yet if
you measure the worth
of the powder room by
the amount of traffic a
room gets per square
foot, the powder room
could easily be the
most valuable space in
your house,” says Rick
Wiedemer, president of
Hinkley Lighting.
A few simple, extra
touches, such as a
portable lamp with a
colored shade, will make
a huge impact.

The right lighting can create an inviting appeal to your home this holiday
season. From the soft and subtle tree height lighting to your driveway
and entrance area specific lighting, the right lighting creates ambiance.
like at any moment
during your party or
gathering this season.
Colors can be changed
at the push of a button
without changing the
fixture, making these
products useful year
round.
Use lighting to create
a focal point. Lights
can draw attention to
virtually anything - a
centerpiece,
buffet,
unusual
decoration
- which helps guests
know where to focus
their eyes.
Add
portable
spotlights as highlights.
These small, inexpensive
fixtures typically work
with a tabletop dimmer
and can create pretty
silhouettes, particularly
under a Christmas tree,
shining up through the
branches.

lights for the holidays,
make
your
space
feel larger by placing
spotlights in room
corners to illuminate
dark spaces.
Swap out lighting accents.
Replacing a neutral
lampshade with one that
is red or gold will soften
the light and create
a pretty atmosphere
when decorating with
lights for the holidays.
Replace a chandelier’s
crystal teardrops with
gold, silver or red glass
balls, or add a few shade
charms, available at
many craft stores, to add
some sparkle and fun.
“One of the great
things about this time
of year, when there are a
lot of festive gatherings,
is that it’s all right to
break away from a few
traditions and try some
new things with lighting
and decorating,” says

Check your dimmers.
“Dimmers are ideal for
creating that perfect
look, regardless of the
season, because they
allow for the general
lighting to play a
supporting role,” says Joe
Rey-Barreau, education
consultant for ALA and
an associate professor
at the University of
Kentucky’s School of
Interior Design.
