SEISMIC RESEACH VESSEL
DESIGN TYPE SX134
M/V POLARCUS ADIRA
M/V POLARCUS ADIRA is a seismic research vessel, designed by Ulstein Design and Solutions AS.
The vessel is designed to meet the general demands of the seismic research industry. The vessel is
equipped with streamer winches, towing points and gun winches. The X-BOW® hull line design, combined with a redundant diesel electric propulsion system, ensures the best performance with regard
to speed and fuel consumption. The main propulsion system comprises two shaft line propellers of
controllable pitch type in nozzles, each shaft line driven by two variable speed electric motors through
twin in-single out reduction gears.
MAIN
ACTIVITIES
SPECIAL FEATURES
The seismic operation room is located
midship over two decks in close vicinity
to seismic winches in work area. Special
attention has been given to the design
to ensure an ergonomic workspace.
The vessel is built acc. to IMO code for
Special Purpose Ships (SPS).
X-BOW® HULL LINE DESIGN BENEFITS
Higher transit speed in calm water due
to low angles of entry and increased
waterline length.
No bow flare, eliminating bow impact
and/or slamming in fore ship.
High transit speed in head and following
seas, giving reduced power consumption
and higher fuel efficiency in waves and
still water.
ENVIRONMENT
The vessel is designed for environmental
friendly operations. The vessel is
certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV)
according to the latest rules for class
CLEAN DESIGN. A ballast water
treatment system is installed. A GREEN
PASSPORT is issued. Low noise and
vibration levels are recorded in the
accommodation and on deck.
All diesel engines have selective catalyst
reactor (SCR) units in order to reduce
NOx emissions.
