Once again the exhibitor line
up at Exclusively Housewares
2012 attracted the very best
housewares retailers from
across the UK and Europe.
The show, which runs at the Business Design Centre in London, for
just two days, featured 122 exhibitors – the largest concentration of
housewares suppliers at any UK trade show, which between them
represent hundreds more housewares, tabletop and small domestic
appliance (SDA) brands.
Who visits the show?
“Exclusively Housewares is a
specialist show, and as such has
the depth of appeal for the real
specialists, and a broad enough
sweep of product categories to
be useful to those looking for fun
and functional additions to a wider
offer,” explains show director
Simon Boyd.
Visitors this year covered the
whole retail spectrum in terms
of both size and channel type;
from cookshops, mail order, TV
shopping, grocery, hardware
stores, garden centres, gift shops,
department stores and internet
companies. In addition, the show
continues to receive interest from
licensing and brand agencies keen
to do more work with housewares
and tabletop companies.
The show also continues to attract
export interest, and received
visitors from over 20 countries,
with buyers from Ireland, France,
Spain and the USA leading the way.
However, buyers also attended
from Denmark, Poland and Italy
and from as far away as Russia,
Australia, Canada and Hong Kong.
Every year export representatives
from every exhibiting company
are invited to meet up with
international visitors informally,
the evening before the show opens.
“Our international drinks event
was very successful this year –
our exhibitors made the most of
meeting our group of hosted and
hand-picked overseas buyers, in
fact the term ‘speed buying event’
was used afterwards! It’s great
that these contacts were made and
we hope these come good for our
exhibitors who wish to expand the
number of markets they work in,”
commented Simon.
This year there were 13 new exhibitors, some of which were brands coming
into the show under new UK management – for example the Italian brands
Le Pentole and Tescoma (with Forma House), aerolatte (with Eddingtons),
Burleigh Pottery (Denby) and Tenzo (Premier Housewares). In addition BSH
Home Appliances, Brewed By Hand, Eurosonic, Guzzini, Graef UK, Nordic
Ware, Rubbermaid Home Products and PHA KitchEssentials were all show
first timers in their own right.
“Our exhibitor’s efforts are what makes the show successful and the
amount of new product being shown this year was very noticeable!”
commented show director Simon Boyd. “Our visitors certainly commented
on it – from the consumer press who come to see what is being planned
for Christmas, who went away with very full notebooks, to the buyers
looking for inspiration and fresh ideas – we are positive exhibitors will
reap their just rewards!”
In addition, the show also targets
160 of the UK’s top buyers to
attend the show’s annual party.
This year’s party once again
made use of the fabulous tented
venue which is based at the HAC’s
(Honourable Artillery Company)
grounds right in the middle of the
City of London. Complete with
its own funfair, outside deck and
champagne on arrival it’s a great
place to relax with friends and
colleagues after a day at the show.

This list is not exhaustive, there were plenty of ideas being discussed at the show which have not yet made it to tangible product stage, but this is

Maison de Picardie is a
small range with each
piece decorated with
a Fleur de Lys in the
middle and surrounded
with a wicker basket

and Slate, both on-trend neutral colours
were welcomed, as was the idea of ‘mixed’

designed for eager cooks aged three -12 and has

Jane Asher adds a
touch of glamour!
A visit by celebrity actress and cake baker Jane Asher added a touch of
glamour to the show on Wednesday when she popped in for a couple of hours
to promote a new range of cookery kits in collaboration with Kitchen Craft.
In addition, two 50th anniversaries, for Jason Products and David Mason
Design were taking place. The David Mason Design team offered its guests
‘Champagne & Cakes’ to mark its 50th year of being in business.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, the Brabantia stand was a hive of activity as the
designer of Brabantia’s striking ‘London’ Retro Bin, Joran Van der Haar ,
attended the show. Joran was the winner of Brabantia’s 2010 Iron in Style
competition. He said, “To be in London, the city that inspired my design,
and to meet UK buyers, at a time of such historic and landmark occasions,
is a true honour. My work is inspired by everything I experience in daily
life. Images from magazines, commercials, graffiti, comics and visual art the way I fuse these images with my imagination sets my work apart.”

Exclusively Housewares is organised by Brooke House Exhibitions,
a subsidiary of BHETA, the British Home Enhancement Trade
Association.
The show has created a unique ‘level playing field’, shell scheme
only format for exhibitors and offers great hospitality at the show to
invited visitors, which is provided free of charge.
The show’s association with BHETA means that exhibitors pool their
knowledge of the market by contributing to the show’s database of
buyers and potential buyers who are then all contacted by the show
to verify before invitations to attend the show are sent out.
To be included on the show’s invitation list you need to be a bona
fide housewares, tabletop or SDA buyer, or recommended by an
exhibitor, eg a licensing agent.
