climate shines abundant light, low
humidity and precipitation, and a
wide, yet tolerable, range of temperatures. More than 3/4 of the
daylight hours have sunshine, even
through the winter months; it does

A former Governor of the Pueblo of Zia, Peter M.
Pino has served as the Tribal Administrator and
Treasurer for the Pueblo since 1973. Peter has
served as the Film Liaison for many filming and
commercial productions since 1983. He assists in
finding a location that suits the director’s
filming vision; once a location has been
determined, Peter negotiates a
film agreement.

P
ueblo of Zia is situated near
the Jemez River atop a small mesa
that provides a spectacular view of
the surrounding areas. Behind the
pueblo lie the Nacimiento and the
Pajarito and Jemez plateaus. Pueblo
of Zia is 24 miles northwest of Rio
Rancho along Highway 550 and is
one of the 19 Pueblos within New
Mexico. Pueblo of Zia has 150,000
acres of pine forest, red bluffs, white
mesas, sink holes and clear unimpeded sight lines in each direction
available as your very own private
movie lot. The pueblo population

is approximately 850; it is situated
within IATSE Local 480’s expanded
production zone (local hire) zone of
Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Many
in the Zia community have served
as extras, crew, and security on
various films. Many pueblos
require that permission be
obtained through the pueblo
council. At the Pueblo of Zia, you
will work directly with their film
liaison, Peter M. Pino, who has
been empowered to negotiate all
agreements.
