Since 1954, the Baltimore Orioles have given back to the local community by becoming
involved in a variety of area programs and initiatives, as well as creating new opportunities
for assistance. Through OriolesREACH, the organization reaches out to our neighbors to
help our fans improve their daily lives. In addition to partnering with existing charities and
organizations, the Orioles have also established a collection of new initiatives. This Annual
Report serves as a brief summary of some of the efforts that have taken place during the past
year both in the communities we serve and at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Each year, the Baltimore Orioles donate
time, money, tickets, autographed
memorabilia and other resources to
help countless charitable organizations,
schools, and civic groups throughout
Birdland. Here is a list of groups the
team has helped in the past year:
A Step Closer Foundation, Inc.
One of the clearest examples of the Orioles reaching
out into the community is when Orioles players and
coaches appear at various functions and events in our
neighborhoods. Even the Oriole Bird has “flown” to over
200 destinations in the community since last season. This
year, fans have also had the opportunity to meet their
favorite players including Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis,
Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, Jeremy Guthrie and Ty Wigginton
at various locations throughout Birdland. To find out where

Markakis Family Celebrates the Holidays
In November, Nick and Christina Markakis joined the
Maryland Food Bank to deliver frozen turkeys to several
Maryland families in need at the Grace African Methodist
Episcopal Church in Catonsville. The Thanksgiving turkeys
were purchased using money gathered during the 2009
Orioles Food Drive.
Then on December 3, the Markakis Family flipped the
switch to illuminate the Washington Monument in
Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood as part of the city’s
annual “Monumental Occasion,” the unofficial beginning to
Baltimore’s holiday season.

2009 and 2010 marked a successful launch of The Right
Side Foundation, a non-profit charity established by
outfielder Nick Markakis and his wife Christina to help
distressed and disadvantaged youth throughout Maryland.
The Foundation provides activities and initiatives for
children including “Fun for 21,” a program which selects 21
children from different community groups to participate
in monthly trips ranging from museum visits and Orioles
games to outdoor activities. The foundation also continued
its annual 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk at Patterson Park on
August 8 following the Orioles vs. White Sox game.
In September of 2009, Nick and Christina made a $75,000
donation to the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation
specifically to support the Baltimore RBI League, Baltimore
City School education programs and Shannon’s Fund.
In recognition of all Nick has done in the community, he
was also selected as the 2009 Orioles nominee for the
Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevy. As the team’s
nominee, Chevy presented Nick with a check for $7,500 to
The Right Side Foundation.

O’s legend and MASN broadcaster Rick Dempsey lit the
Great Tree in Broadway Square on December 5 as part of
Fells Point’s Olde Tyme Christmas Celebration. The all-day
event also featured horse drawn sleigh rides, live music, a
parade of lighted boats, and even a visit from St. Nick.

In December, the Orioles once again sponsored the Orioles
Challenge as part of the Baltimore Community Foundation
Tennis Challenge.
O’s pitchers Jeremy Guthrie and Brad Bergesen took part in
a doubles match, coached by Ravens players. Also, tennis
Hall of Famer John McEnroe joined fellow former world No.
1 Lindsay Davenport, current world No. 1 doubles stars Bob
and Mike Bryan, and US Open stars Melanie Oudin and John
Isner, for the event at the Baltimore Arena.
Since 1986, the BCF Tennis Challenge has raised more
than $4 million for area charities through Orioles’ minority
owner Pam Shriver’s partnership with the Baltimore
Community Foundation.

On December 9, 2009, several current and former Orioles
teamed up to host students from Lakeland Elementary
School at the ESPN Zone in Baltimore for the 31st Annual
OriolesREACH Holiday Party. Players served free food
and drinks to the children while 1983 World Series MVP
and current MASN broadcaster Rick Dempsey once again
played the role of Santa Claus, handing out presents to the
participants. The children also joined the players upstairs
in the Sports Arena for free games and activities.

Marking its first return to the Baltimore Convention Center
in three seasons, Orioles FanFest presented by the Sarasota
Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomed more than
12,000 fans on January 23.

Breakfast Breaks Program
FanFest was not only an opportunity to get ready for the 2010 season, but fans
also had the chance to support victims of the devastating earthquake that struck
Haiti in January.
This year, the Orioles once again partnered with Maryland Public Libraries to
present their annual Summer Reading Program, presented by T. Rowe Price, to local
participants at more than 180 Maryland public library branches. The program is
designed to encourage and reward area youth who commit to reading throughout
the summer.
For the 2009-10 school year, the Orioles and Baltimore
Ravens joined forces with Baltimore City Schools to
sponsor the Breakfast Breaks program. The program
provides thousands of less fortunate city school students
with boxed breakfasts, each branded with team logos and
fun activities.
Through a silent auction, memorabilia sales and cash donations, $65,000 was
raised and distributed to three separate organizations. The Jenkins-Penn Haitian
Relief Organization delivered medical supplies and served food to earthquake
victims. Project Medishare worked to reestablish the health infrastructure and
provide access to agriculture, education, clean water and sanitation in several
Haitian communities. Miguel Tejada also donated his time to Project Medishare by
visiting their headquarters in Miami and filming a public service announcement.
Finally, Potters for Peace, a member of the World Health Organization’s International
Network to promote Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage, assisted with
low-tech, low-cost water purifiers.

Beginning in June, children from elementary school through high school were able
to register at any Maryland Public Library and receive a Reading Log that guided
them through the Summer Reading Program. Kids who completed the Reading
Log received prizes including Orioles game tickets. All told, more than 150,000
students participated in the Summer Reading Program.
Learning with the Orioles
In 2010, OriolesREACH teamed up with Baltimore City
Public Schools and T. Rowe Price to support “Learning with
the Orioles,” a comprehensive summer learning program
teaching math, reading, science and social studies skills to
nearly 14,000 students at 80 city public elementary and
middle schools.

GBC Luncheon
Just because the Orioles officially opened the 2010 season
on the road, didn’t mean local fans had to wait to celebrate
the start of the baseball season. On April 6, OriolesREACH
invited fans to the ESPN Zone in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor
for the Season Opener “First Pitch Party.” Fans were able to
watch the O’s take on the Rays from Tropicana Field, while
meeting former Orioles Al Bumbry, Joe Orsulak and Bill
Swaggerty. Fans also received prizes and giveaway items,
tickets to future games, and the chance to meet The Oriole
Bird. One lucky fan even won the opportunity to throw out
a ceremonial first pitch before an upcoming O’s game at
Camden Yards.
On April 12, the entire Orioles team attended the annual
Greater Baltimore Committee’s Welcome Home Luncheon at
the Hilton Baltimore Hotel. Players and coaches discussed
the upcoming season, signed autographs, and interacted
with local businessmen and women.

Baseball Clinic
On Saturday, April 10, OriolesREACH teamed up with the
Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks to
hold a baseball clinic at the Bloomsbury Community Center
in Catonsville for children ages 6-14 and adult coaches.
Current Orioles catcher Craig Tatum provided instruction
along with former O’s Al Bumbry, Bill Swaggerty, Larry
Sheets, Rick Krivda, Tim Norris and Tim Nordbrook.
Gold Glove outfielder Adam Jones visited the Y of Central
Maryland in Druid Hill for two special events this summer.
On April 30, Adam took party in a community block party
for Druid Hill residents, Y volunteers, as well as community
and business leaders that celebrated the completion of
the Druid Hill Family Center’s revitalization project and
community clean up.
Then, on August 19, Adam visited the Druid Hill Y Center
and interacted with children involved in the New Horizons
program. New Horizons is an eight-week program held
each summer at the Druid Hill Family Center Y that offers
life-skills and job training for approximately 65 homeless
teens from Baltimore City. During the program, teens
participate in a series of workshops on work readiness
and receive a personal career interest inventory, as well
as intensive instruction on financial literacy and money
management skills. Additionally, local business leaders
meet with the teens to provide them with real-life success
stories and guidance as they plan for their futures. Finally,
the Y coordinates paid internships for the teens where they
spend approximately five weeks gaining experience in real
world work environments. This unique program exposes
homeless teens to opportunities and role models that may
otherwise not be present in their lives.

American Red Cross Blood Drives. Participants received
exclusive gifts such as a Jim Palmer t-shirt, Matt Wieters

Orioles Cook-Off Benefits the Maryland
Food Bank
On May 26, Orioles Brad Bergesen, Luke Scott and Kevin
Millwood “stepped up to the plate” to compete in the team’s
second annual Orioles Cook-Off at the ESPN Zone to benefit
the Maryland Food Bank. Scott’s surf-and-turf platter won
the prize, while cash and food donations were collected to
support area soup kitchens and food pantries.
Carroll Park Baseball Clinic
On June 12, the Orioles hosted their annual youth baseball
clinic at Carroll Park with more than 300 pre-registered
Baltimore City youngsters. Orioles Adam Jones and Lou
Montanez offered instruction along with O’s first base
coach John Shelby and former Orioles Paul Blair, Al Bumbry,
and Rick Krivda. The Orioles also provided tickets to that
night’s game for all children attending the clinic.
Orioles Baseball Summer Camps
The Orioles once again sponsored a series of Orioles
Baseball Summer Camps designed for kids ages 7-16. The
camps gave children the opportunity to receive baseball
instruction from qualified professionals with years of
experience coaching and playing at youth, high school,
collegiate and professional levels. Camps included a visit
from current and former Orioles players, including Adam
Jones, Jake Arrieta, Corey Patterson, and Mark Hendrickson.
Camps were held at the Carroll County Sports Complex in
Westminster, Memorial Park in York, Overlea High School
and Kiwanis Wallas Park in Ellicott City. Each participant
received an autograph and a photo opportunity with Orioles
guests and also received an Orioles t-shirt and Junior
Orioles Dugout Club presented by Chick-fil-A membership,
which included free admission to several Orioles games
this summer. Participants also got the chance to play one
day of the camp at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Reviving Baseball in the Inner City (RBI)
League
Funded by the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation,
the Reviving Baseball in the Inner City (RBI) League
was established to help Baltimore City kids build self
esteem while learning baseball skills in a fun and safe
environment. In addition to sponsoring the summer-long
league for more than 300 area teenagers, Orioles players
including center fielder Adam Jones visited games during
the summer to offer his support. The Orioles also hosted
the championship games at Oriole Park for both the Junior
and Senior divisions, and honored the league champions
with special pre-game ceremonies on August 5.
USO-Metro’s “Operation Back to School”
On August 7, Orioles Jake Fox and Brad Bergesen attended
the USO-Metro’s “Operation Back to School” at Fort Meade.
The day featured Military children participating in a variety
of activities that corresponded with their subjects in
school. Jake and Brad encouraged the children during the
physical education portion of the day, helping them with a
fun obstacle course.
Brian’s Baseball Bash
On August 22, OriolesREACH and Brian Roberts hosted the
Fifth Annual Brian’s Baseball Bash, a fundraising event for
the University of Maryland Hospital for Children’s Pediatric
Cardiopulmonary and Child Life Programs. The special
evening for fans at Dave and Busters in the Arundel Mills
Mall included silent and live auctions of sports memorabilia
to help the children at UMHC. Through the hard work of
Brian and the OriolesREACH team, and the generosity of
Orioles fans, more than $500,000 has been raised since the
first Bash in 2006. In addition, the Orioles have donated
more than $50,000 to provide tickets for patients and their
families. And throughout the season, Brian makes regular
visits to UMHC to visit with patients and offer his support.

Experience Program
Each season, the Orioles and OriolesREACH invite more
than 12,000 children from disadvantaged areas in the
region to experience the magic of Orioles Baseball as part
of the IBEW-NECA OriolesREACH Gameday Experience
Program. By partnering with various local non-profit and
youth groups, OriolesREACH is able to provide children
with free game tickets, concessions vouchers, Orioles
t-shirts, caps and transportation to and from the game. So
far in 2010, several Orioles players have taken part in the
program, including Adam Jones, Felix Pie, David Hernandez,
Michael Gonzalez, Kevin Millwood, Brian Matusz, and Jeremy
Guthrie. More than 60,000 children have participated
since the program’s inception.

and Players Give Back
Through the Major League Baseball Commissioner’s
Community Initiative and Players Give Back Program, the
Orioles donated close to 100,000 complimentary tickets to
deserving organizations throughout the region.

The Junior Orioles Dugout Club presented by Chick-fil-A
continues to offer an affordable way for kids and their
families to enjoy Orioles Baseball and receive exclusive
rewards. The club serves as a “mini plan for mini fans” ages
6-14, in which kids receive tickets to 10 specially selected
games, a hat, membership card, customizable lunch box
and more for only $17. Family members and friends can
also purchase tickets to Dugout Club games for just $6.
And once again this season, OriolesREACH partnered with
Chick-fil-A to donate up to $5 for every kit sold at area
restaurants to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The OriolesREACH High Five Fundraising Program continues
to help local non-profit groups, civic organizations, school
and youth groups raise money for their efforts. In fact, since
its inception in 2005, the High Five Program has helped to
raise well over $850,000.

What better place to celebrate your birthday than Oriole
Park? And what better way to celebrate than with a free
ticket courtesy of the Orioles and Carvel! In 2010, the
Orioles continued their popular, industry trend-setting
program of offering all fans around the world the chance to
receive a free ticket to any non-prime home game in their
birth month by simply signing up at orioles.com/birthdays.
Even fans with birthdays in the off-season are eligible to
receive a free ticket. Since 2009, more than 70,000 fans
have signed up to celebrate at Oriole Park.
2110 Eutaw Street
Oriole Park’s innovative new fan club section, 2110
Eutaw Street presented by Home Savings of America and
Southwest Airlines, returned this season for select games.
With 2110 Eutaw Street, fans can purchase a reserved
seat in the Eutaw Street Bleacher section and receive an
exclusive 2110 Eutaw Street t-shirt. A different shirt was
featured each game.

Plus, the offer serves as an interactive fan experience
as both Nick Markakis and Adam Jones – the section’s
namesakes – tossed baseballs to the crowd between innings.
Autographed t-shirts were also awarded each game, and for
every home run hit by Nick or Adam during the game, one
lucky fan was selected to receive an autographed bat.

2009 Fan Appreciation Weekend
Gold Coast Red Cross Angels
As is tradition, the Orioles closed out the 2009 season with
Fan Appreciation Weekend, a celebration of the loyal fans of
Birdland. Weekend activities included the chance for fans to
be randomly chosen to win full or partial season ticket plans,
Southwest Airlines travel vouchers, Orioles memorabilia and
more. Throughout the weekend, fans were also chosen at
random to win unique Orioles experiences including on-field
Orioles player visits, the chance to take the field with players
during the National Anthem and the popular “Shirts Off
Our Backs” program…giving fans game-worn, autographed
jerseys. A silent auction that weekend also raised more than
$20,000 for the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation.
And all fans throughout the weekend were given scratch-off
style gift cards from Outback Steakhouse totaling more than
$300,000 worth of offers.

In continuing the Orioles’ dedication to assisting local
charities, OriolesREACH offers an opportunity for
organizations to raise funds and awareness with fans at
Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The OriolesREACH Community
Booth is located near Gate D and is set up to allow charitable
organizations to display signage, raise money, and hand
out information for their specific cause. In addition to an
in-game announcement of the charity’s presence at the
Community Booth, the Orioles hope that the additional
publicity will help further the growth of the organization
outside of Camden Yards.

In 2010, the Orioles continued the Orioles Alumni
Autograph Series. Before every Monday and Thursday
home game, fans are invited to meet some of their favorite
former Orioles at Camden Yards. The former players sign
autographs and share memories at the MASN Booth on
Eutaw Street for one full hour before each game. Some of
the players appearing this year have included Paul Blair,
Mike Boddicker, Mike Bordick, Don Buford, Al Bumbry,
Andy Etchebarren, Dan Ford, Ron Hansen, Chris Hoiles, Bill
Hunter, Tippy Martinez, Ben McDonald, Scott McGregor,

Every Sunday home game, the Orioles and ESSKAY feature
the Steal Second Base contest, allowing one young fan the
chance to participate in a timed race from the grounds crew
area in right center field to retrieve second base. Fans sign
up for the chance to participate at Oriole Park, and each
winner receives four game tickets, gift certificates to use
inside Camden Yards, an Orioles t-shirt and a prize pack.

Honorary Bat Kids Program. Kids ages 6-14 could pick up
an entry form at any Giant Food to become eligible. The
Orioles selected one boy and one girl winner for each
Monday through Saturday home game and the winners
received four complimentary tickets to the game, onfield access to watch the Orioles take batting practice,
autographs, and a t-shirt. They also participated in an onfield pre-game ceremony, where winners were presented
with an Official Honorary Bat Boy/Girl certificate and an
opportunity to take a photo with the Oriole Bird.

The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area
Former Oakland Mills High School and Virginia Tech
basketball player Rayna DuBose threw out the ceremonial
first pitch on April 12 at Oriole Park. Rayna was struck
with meningococcal meningitis in 2002 and had all four
limbs amputated. A diehard O’s fan, she now is an assistant
girls basketball coach at Marriotts Ridge High School and
also travels the country delivering motivational speeches
through her Winning the Game of Life program.

High School Baseball at Camden Yards
In recognition of the 63rd anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s
milestone introduction as the first African-American player
in Major League Baseball on April 15, all Orioles players
and coaches wore Robinson’s famous number 42 for their
game in Oakland against the Athletics. Each jersey was then
autographed, authenticated and made available for auction
on Orioles.com. The auction raised more than $8,000 for
the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation and the Jackie
Robinson Foundation.
On April 16, the Orioles welcomed Poly Tech and Digital
Harbor high schools to Camden Yards to play a game on the
Major League diamond. Admission was free for the rivalry
match-up, and many local fans and supporters attended.
Then, in a pre-game ceremony on Tuesday, April 27, the
Orioles celebrated Jackie Robinson Day at Camden Yards
by recognizing Jackie Robinson Foundation scholar Fana
Aragaw. Fana, a member of the Extra Innings Graduate
Program and a DDS candidate at the University of Maryland
Dental School, was presented with a number 42 jersey by
Orioles outfielder Adam Jones. Fana is one of over 1,300
young men and women who are able to attend college
thanks to the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Major League
Baseball and the Orioles.
Citi’s Teach Children To Save Program
On six dates throughout the 2010 season, beginning with
April 28, Citi continued the ABA Education Foundation’s
Teach Kids to Save Program by explaining the importance
of saving to students from the National Foundation for
Teaching Entrepreneurs, Baltimore Urban Debate League
and Junior Achievement of Central Maryland. Pitchers David
Hernandez and Jeremy Guthrie spoke to students while the
Orioles provided game tickets, concession vouchers, hats,
t-shirts and transportation for the students. Citi also made
an additional $25,000 donation to the Baltimore Orioles
Charitable Foundation.

Third-Annual Field Trip Day
Boy Scouts Night
The newly formed Oriole Advocates Challenger Baseball program, in conjunction
with the Orioles, provided food and gifts for players at the first annual Spotsylvania
Challenger League Invitation Tournament on May 2. The tournament welcomed
Challenger Little League teams from Spotsylvania, King George, DumfriesTriangle-Quantico and Coles Little Leagues and offered children with physical or
developmental challenges the chance to compete and share in a day of baseball
and fun.
More than 13,000 area Little Leaguers were able to spend a day in the Big Leagues
as the Orioles once again hosted two Little League Days in 2010 on May 2 and 16.
The annual events bring local Little League players and coaches to Oriole Park to
participate in a pre-game parade around the warning track on the field. In addition,
Orioles players line up in the dugout to greet each Little League player as the
parade passes by. Each team also received an autographed player photo to use as
a fundraiser for their league.
Then on July 24, the Orioles provided more than 800 tickets to participants in
the Challenger League to watch special pre-game ceremonies honoring Maryland
Challenger League participants.
On September 19, a similar Youth Sports Day and pre-game parade celebrated area
youth football, lacrosse, soccer and other sports teams.
For the third consecutive season, OriolesREACH partnered
with MASN and WJZ-TV to host Field Trip Day at Oriole
Park. On May 13, more than 7,000 students from local
elementary and middle schools gathered at Camden Yards
to learn about the weather from WJZ-TV’s First Warning
Weather Team of Bob Turk, Bernadette Woods and Tim
Williams. Orioles Head Groundskeeper Nicole Sherry also
explained to the students how these weather patterns
affect the playing field at Oriole Park, as well as impact
the game itself. The students learned about the jet stream,
clouds, winter weather, lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes
prior to that afternoon’s game against the Mariners.
The Orioles hosted more than 1,000 children and family
members from the Boy Scouts of America at the O’s vs.
Indians game on Saturday, May 15. Each participating
scout received a specially designed Orioles Scout Night
badge and top sellers in the Boy Scout’s popcorn selling
fundraising efforts were honored with a personal ballpark
tour, the chance to watch batting practice from the field,
participation in the game’s lineup card presentation, and
the ceremonial first pitch.

Mother’s Day Honorary Bat Girl
On May 16, Major League Baseball and Susan G. Komen for
the Cure announced the Orioles’ winner of the Honorary Bat
Girl contest, a campaign designed to recognize incredible
baseball fans who are going to bat against breast cancer
in their daily lives. The Orioles’ winner, 29 year-old Tracy
Santos of Baltimore City, was diagnosed with Stage IV
breast cancer in 2007 and since then has devoted herself
to raising funds for breast cancer awareness. She was
recognized in a special on-field ceremony prior to the
Orioles’ afternoon game that day against the Cleveland
Indians and also threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The Honorary Bat Girl contest was developed to raise
additional awareness and support for the annual Going
to Bat Against Breast Cancer program, a joint program
between MLB and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s
largest breast cancer organization.
One player from each Club was deemed a representative
on Mother’s Day, and most have personally experienced the
effects breast cancer and other cancers have had on their
families. The Orioles’ representative was Nick Markakis,
whose mother survived breast cancer.
24th Annual Food Drive
The Orioles Wives, Oriole Advocates, MASN and WJZ-TV
teamed up to host the 24th Annual OriolesREACH Food
Drive at Camden Yards June 4-6 to benefit the Maryland
Food Bank. Representatives were stationed at each entry
gate at the park to collect non-perishable food items and
cash donations for the Maryland Food Bank and their work
with local soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency
shelters throughout Central Maryland.
For fans unable to attend, a ”virtual food drive” was also
held online to add to the efforts. Participants were able to
purchase food online at wholesale cost, maximizing their
contributions to the Maryland Food Bank. Between the
two drives, more than 2,200 pounds of food were collected
along with cash contributions totalling $20,000.

On June 6, the Orioles hosted the Joint Services Military
Family Day with a special pre-game picnic before that
day’s Orioles vs. Red Sox game. Service members and
their families were able to enjoy a pre-game picnic in the
centerfield Picnic Grove, and one lucky service member was
chosen to throw out that day’s ceremonial first pitch.

Before their June 8 game vs. the Yankees, the Orioles
welcomed Steve Starr, the chief engineer on the Baltimorebased USNS Comfort, to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The Comfort is one of nearly 110 active ships operated by
the Navy’s Military Sealift Command that provided urgent
medical care to earthquake victims in Haiti.
Joining Steve on the field were several leaders of our nation’s
defense transportation team including the Commander of the
U.S. Transportation Command, U.S. Air Force General Duncan
J. McNabb; the Navy’s Military Sealift Command, Rear Admiral
Mark H. Buzby; the Army’s Military Surface Deployment and
Distribution Command, Major General James L. Hodge; and
the U.S. Transportation Command’s Senior Enlisted Leader,
Command Sergeant Major Tomas R. Hawkins.
Pitch, Hit & Run Tournament
The Orioles hosted the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit
& Run Tournament at Oriole Park on June 12. The top
16 qualifiers from Maryland and Virginia competed in
the hopes of advancing to the National Finals at the
2010 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Anaheim.
Participants were also honored in an on-field ceremony
before the Orioles game against the Mets.

Following the game on June 13, the Orioles hosted the
29th annual Brooks Robinson High School All-Star Game
at Camden Yards. Each All-Star team was made up of 15
student-athletes, four alternates and three coaches from
across Maryland. Prior to the O’s game that day, the AllStars were recognized in an on-field ceremony.

Third Annual Orioles Ravens Rally
Baltimore’s two home teams once again partnered as
the Orioles joined forces with the Ravens to provide
a day of fun for fans of both teams on June 12. Before
that evening’s O’s vs. Mets game, Ravens Head Coach John
Harbaugh threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Then the
Ravens Marching Band, mascot Poe and team cheerleaders
entertained fans at Oriole Park. Also, the first 20,000 fans
15 and over received a special black and purple Orioles hat
presented by MASN.

Before their game on June 23, the Orioles hosted special
pre-game ceremonies recognizing local cancer survivors
for an “Evening of Hope.” The Orioles invited 1,000 patients
and their families to the game and offered tickets in the
all-inclusive Left Field Club Picnic Perch. Representatives
from eight local hospitals – Bon Secours, Union Memorial
Hospital, University of Maryland Medical – North Arundel,
GBMC, St. Agnes Hospital, Sinai Hospital, Good Samaritan
Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview and Mercy Medical Center
– also received Orioles jerseys with “HOPE” on the back.

by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society and
conducts fitness programs in all 30 Major League Baseball

Living Flag Foundation
More than 15,000 members of the AFL-CIO attended the
Orioles vs. Nationals game on June 25 in a celebration of
Union Night. AFL-CIO members from Maryland, the District
of Columbia, Virginia and Pennsylvania attended the game
and took part in special pre-game ceremonies.
Before the game on June 29, the Orioles hosted special pregame ceremonies honoring the winners of the 2010 Philip
F. Haxel, Sr. Elementary School Baton of Patriotism Essay
Contest. Stephen Lemerand, a fifth grader from Cecilton
Elementary School in Cecil County, and Darian Radden,
a fifth grader from Cardinal Shehan School in Baltimore,
were honored.
O’s Honor 1970 World Champions
A Birdland celebration 40 years in the making, the Orioles
honored the 1970 World Championship team with special
pre-game ceremonies before their game against the
Nationals on June 26. More than 20 members of the team
were on hand including Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson,
Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer and Earl Weaver. Players
and coaches were also honored at a private luncheon for
fans before the game, while several players took part in
autograph stations around Oriole Park.
The contest, which asks students to “explain in what ways
the U.S. Flag has been and is today an important symbol of
our country,” was founded by the American Flag Foundation,
the organization that brings the Living American Flag at
Fort McHenry and the Traveling Living American Flag to
Maryland schools.
During the game, the Orioles wore special 1970 throwback
uniforms while the Nationals dressed as the Washington
Senators. Uniforms from the game, as well as the pre-game
alumni ceremonies, were auctioned online at orioles.com
with more than $50,000 being raised for the Baltimore
Orioles Charitable Foundation.
The Orioles, along with Major League Baseball and People
Magazine, honored the 2010 People All-Stars Among Us, a
collection of individuals serving their local communities in
extraordinary ways.
Kids Run the Bases
Following their game on June 27 against the Nationals, the
Orioles and OriolesREACH hosted the Kids Run the Bases
event on the field at Camden Yards. Fans 14 and under
who attended the game were invited to live their Major
League dreams by going on the field and running the bases
after the game.

“All-Stars Among Us”
Casey Davis of Westminster won a nationwide online
voting contest over two other Orioles finalists – Flor Gusti
of Baltimore and Elin Ross of Frederick – and was honored
in a special on-field ceremony along with other team
winners at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game in Anaheim on July
13. Casey started DeafMD.org, the first internet service to
explain a wide variety of health-related topics in American
Sign Language for the deaf community.
All three Orioles finalists were also honored in a special
pre-game ceremony at Oriole Park on June 12, while Casey
also threw out the ceremonial first pitch on June 29.

First Lady Tells Children “Let’s Move!”
First Lady Michelle Obama held a press conference at Oriole Park
on July 20 to announce her “Let’s Move!” initiative, a partnership
between the White House, Major League Baseball and the Major
League Baseball Players Association. After the announcement,
players from both the Orioles and Rays held a clinic for 50 young
baseball players from the Baltimore RBI League and local Boys and
Girls Clubs.

That evening, the First Lady joined representatives from the Boys

Day Camper Day
On July 21, the Orioles hosted their annual Day Camper Day. More
than 5,000 day campers from 67 different camps around Maryland
and the Mid-Atlantic region attended the Orioles’ 12:35 p.m. game
against the Tampa Bay Rays. One lucky camper was even selected at
random to throw out the day’s ceremonial first pitch.
New City School Teachers Honored
In continuing a long-standing partnership with Baltimore City
Schools, the Orioles welcomed more than 700 new Baltimore City
school teachers to their game against the White Sox on August 9.
Buses for Baseball
The Players Trust’s annual Buses for Baseball program once again visited
Oriole Park this season on August 16, hosting children with cancer.
Children from the Cool Kids Campaign met Orioles Jeremy Guthrie,
Ty Wigginton, Luke Scott, Brian Matusz, and Corey Patterson prior to
the game, and one child was selected to throw out the ceremonial
first pitch. Buses for Baseball provides children from charitable
organizations with round-trip transportation to big league ballparks,
where they receive free tickets, food, beverages and souvenirs. The
program has allowed more than 1,500 children to attend games at big
league ballparks this season.
Cardboard to Leather Collection
On September 18, OriolesREACH once again teamed with the Oriole
Advocates for the Cardboard to Leather Collection presented by
Legg Mason. Fans donated new or gently used baseball and softball
equipment at the game to underprivileged children in Central
America. A silent auction was also held.
Donations in 2009 to the Cardboard to Leather Collection benefitted
more than 3,100 children in Nicaragua and Venezuela. Legg Mason
also donated $7,500 to the collection and held separate equipment
drives at their corporate offices.

community. To introduce OriolesREACH to our new neighbors, a variety of programs and events were established throughout the
region. By spring’s end the welcome was astonishing, as the club’s Spring Training attendance figures climbed above 100,000
for the first time in franchise history. 2010 attendance for all games at Ed Smith Stadium totaled 102,219… a 39% attendance
increase over 2009 and the largest increase in all of Major League Baseball.

On November 14, the Orioles joined with the Greater
Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and the Sarasota

giveaways, fan forums, kid-friendly activities and a free
hot dog and soda for attendees. One lucky fan won a trip

Boys and Girls Clubs Attend
Intrasquad Game
On March 1, the Orioles hosted children from the Boys and
Girls Clubs of Sarasota County at an intrasquad game at
Ed Smith Stadium. Instead of paying admission, fans were
asked to make a donation to the Clubs and were invited to
participate in a silent auction of Orioles memorabilia with
proceeds benefitting the Clubs. The Orioles then matched
all funds raised. After the game, the children participated
in an on-field clinic with several players and coaches.
Sarasota Opening Day
The Orioles played their first game in their new Spring
Training home on March 3 against A.L. East rival, the
Tampa Bay Rays. To celebrate the new chapter in Orioles
history, ceremonies included Sarasota Opera tenor Joshua
Kohl singing the National Anthem with colors presented
by students from the Sarasota Military Academy and
ceremonial first pitches thrown by four of the five Sarasota
County Commissioners – Joe Barbetta, Nora Patterson,
Shannon Staub and Jon Thaxton. Commissioner Carolyn
Mason was unable to attend, but was with the group in
spirit.

On March 6, the team partnered with Easter Seals
Southwest Florida as part of Project Rainbow, an outreach
program for children with disabilities. Players participated
in arts and crafts projects bringing smiles to the faces of all
the participants on this special day.
The Venice Challenger League
On March 13, Ed Smith Stadium welcomed Venice
Challenger Baseball players and their families to participate
in a game on the main field. Several Orioles players served
as “buddies” to the disabled children during the game and
later autographed O’s caps handed out to everyone. At the
end of the day, Orioles players posed for photos with the
kids and Orioles infielder Rhyne Hughes was presented
with the “Buddy of the Day” trophy.

OriolesREACH Pet Calendar
The Orioles, Orioles Wives and OriolesREACH once again
teamed with the Maryland SPCA to create the 2011 Orioles
Pet Calendar presented by Southwest Airlines. Proceeds
from the calendar, which features Orioles players posing
with their own pets or SPCA dogs, benefit the Maryland
SPCA. Fans are able to buy the calendar at Oriole Park or
online at orioles.com.
Scoreboard Surprises
For a $25 donation to the Orioles Charitable Foundation,
fans can celebrate a birthday or anniversary with a special
message for all spectators to see on Oriole Park’s centerfield
MASNvision scoreboard. For details, visit orioles.com and

Game-Used Baseball Sales
In 2010, the Orioles again gave fans the opportunity to
purchase one-of-a-kind keepsakes of their Camden Yards
experience, while helping their community. Game-used
baseballs were sold at each game at the OriolesREACH
Community Booth inside Camden Yards with all proceeds
going to the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation. In
2009, the sales generated more than $30,000.
Bird Visits
Once again this season, guests at Oriole Park have the opportunity to reserve a special visit from everyone’s favorite fan, the
Oriole Bird. For a $75 donation to Shannon’s Fund, fans can
schedule a visit from the Oriole Bird, who will also deliver an
Orioles goodie bag directly to the honoree during the game.

As part of the K’s for Kids Program, each time an Orioles
pitcher records a strikeout in 2010, CareFirst BlueCross/

Swings for Scholars Scholarship Program
In partnership with Legg Mason Global Asset management, the
Orioles unveiled a new scholarship program in 2010 called
Swings for Scholars. The program is designed to provide
full community college scholarships to qualified graduates
of Baltimore City Schools and support their efforts to pursue
education beyond high school. This season, each time Nick
Markakis records a hit, Legg Mason Charitable Foundation,
Inc. will make a $200 contribution to the program.
Saves for Shock Trauma
Once again this season, corporate partner Kelly & Associates
Insurance Group has pledged a donation of $2,000 to the
University of Maryland R Adams Crowley Shock Trauma
Center for every save recorded by an Orioles pitcher. In 2009,
more than $50,000 was raised to help UMMS save lives.
Giant Food Supports Area Programs
Prior to the O’s game on June 27 against the Nationals, representatives from Giant Food presented a check for $1.25 million to The Johns Hopkins Division of Pediatric Oncology as a
part of their Triple Winner Campaign. The donation will support the Giant Food Pediatric Leukemia and Tumor Program established by Johns Hopkins. 100% of proceeds raised through
the Triple Play promotion benefits cancer research and care.
O’s Help Sport Clips Break Record
On July 22, Orioles pitcher Jason Berken visited Sport Clips’
newest location on the Avenue at White Marsh. Jason met
fans and signed autographs along with the Oriole Bird and
former Orioles Scott McGregor, Rick Dempsey and Dave
Johnson. To celebrate Sport Clips opening its 700th store
nationwide, the team helped to raise more than $10,000
for OriolesREACH as the store broke the Guinness Book
World Record for most haircuts performed in one day.

In 2008, the Orioles and OriolesREACH established
Shannon’s Fund, a $50,000 endowment at the University
of Maryland Medical Center to provide financial assistance
to hospital patients and their families. Created in memory
of Shannon Obaker – the team’s Director of Community
Outreach who bravely fought cancer for over a year before
passing away in 2007 at age 29 – Shannon’s Fund is
administered by the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Funds are donated to patients and their family members as
need arises to assist with the general expenses associated
with the treatment process, including hospital parking,
alternate housing, food costs and household bills.
People who knew Shannon knew of her passion for
helping others, especially children and animals. In
her role as Community Outreach Director, Shannon
coordinated charitable donation requests, scheduled player
appearances in the community and arranged special visits
for sick children who wanted to meet their baseball heroes.
The Orioles and the Obaker family believe that the most
meaningful way to remember Shannon is to reach out to
help others because that is what Shannon cared about
most.
