2015 Tampa, FL Program - Youth America Grand Prix
YAGP 2015 Semi-‐finals Tampa, FL January 9 -‐ 11, 2015 Dear Participants, Parents and Teachers,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the YAGP 2015 Semi-Finals in Tampa, FL! We
hope you will enjoy learning from each other as well as the many distinguished dance
professionals gathered here. As many of you already know, we have designed the YAGP
experience in such a way that every participant, regardless of their level of training or career
goals, can benefit greatly from the multitude of educational and professional opportunities
available throughout the event.
In response to parents’ and teachers’ requests from previous years, we would like to inform you that this
year the competition entries are organized by birth date starting with our youngest participants. The only
exceptions to this order are special considerations due to costume changes.
We are proud to say that in only 16 short years YAGP has become the largest student
scholarship competition in the world. This is in large part due to the support of our participants
and participating schools. In particular, we would like to thank the Tampa, FL participating

Denys Drozdyuk
Denys Drozdyuk (World Ballroom Dance Champion) is a winner of So You Think You Can Dance
Canada. Born in Ukraine, Mr. Drozdyuk studied dance at the Juilliard School and Dance Education at
New York University. Mr. Drozdyuk is a 3-Time World Ballroom 10-Dance Champion, 2-Time USA
National Ballroom Dance Champion, 7-Time German National Ballroom Dance Champion, and a 3-Time
Canadian National Ballroom Dance Champion.
Rebecca King
Rebecca King (Czech National Ballet) was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and trained with Donna Pidel
and Olga Toziakova. She competed in several international competitions, including Youth America Grand
Prix, becoming a finalist in 2001 - 2008. Ms. King was a soloist with the Ukrainian National Ballet, the
Prague State Opera and Ballet and is currently a soloist with the Czech National Ballet. Ms. King appears
as a guest artist in many international galas and festivals.
Bruce Marks
Mr. Marks is the embodiment of the Who’s Who in Ballet. He began his training with the New York High
School of Performing Arts. In 1956 he joined the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. In 1961 he joined American
Ballet Theatre and was quickly promoted to Principal Dancer. In May of 1971 he became the first
American Principal Dancer to join the Royal Danish Ballet. He retired from the stage in 1976 and
become the Artistic Director of Ballet West. He was named Artistic Director and CEO (the first time in
ballet history) of the Boston Ballet. From there Mr. Marks succeeded the late Robert Joffrey in 1989 as
Chairman of the Jury of the USA International Ballet Competition, a position he held until 2010. Since
then Mr. Marks has served as chairman of many International Ballet Competitions. He mentors, teaches
and coaches, young dancers all over the world.
Meelis Pakri.
Mr. Pakri is originally from Estonia and is a graduate of the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg,
Russia. Following his graduation, Mr. Pakri danced with Estonian National Ballet as a principal dancer. In
1991 he joined the Colorado Ballet as a Principal. In 2006, he joined the Faculty of the Upper School of
the Royal Ballet School in the United Kingdom. In 2013, he joined Houston Ballet as Ballet Master. He is
now a leading faculty member of The Harid Conservatory
Sascha Radetsky
Sascha Radetsky received his early dance training from Dmara Bennett and Ayako Takahashi. At the
age of 15 he was invited to attend the Bolshoi Academy in Moscow and the next year he joined the Kirov
Academy of Ballet in St. Petersburg. He joined American Ballet Theatre in 1995 and was made a soloist
in 2003. He starred in the 2000 movie Center Stage. In 2008 he joined Dutch National Ballet as a
Principal dancer. He returned to ABT in 2010. He currently stars in the Starz TV Series “Flesh and
Bone”. Peter Quanz
Peter Quanz, of Baden, Ontario, knew he wanted to be a choreographer at age nine. In his first year at
the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, he was given the opportunity to choreograph for dancers from the
Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company. By clearly defining his need to choreograph at a young age, Peter
chose to pursue his creative development and education rather than follow a dancer's traditional career.
He performed with the Stuttgart Ballet and has been a free-lance choreographer since 2002. He has had
commissions from the Mariinsky Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, the Royal Ballet (Linbury Theatre), Les
Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, the National Ballet
of Cuba, and the National Ballet of Canada. He created In Tandem for the Guggenheim Museum’s Works
& Process series. Peter founded Q DANCE in 2010 to provide an opportunity to collaborate with a
chamber group of exceptionally talented artists and to allow him to create his own programs. The
company has close associations with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and had a Joyce Theatre season in 2012
in New York City.
Gennadi Saveliev
Gennadi Saveliev has received his dance training at the School of American Ballet and the Bolshoi
Ballet Academy under Pyotr Pestov and Stanley Williams. Mr. Saveliev was a member of Bolshoi Ballet
before he joined American Ballet Theatre in 1996, upon winning a silver medal at the New York
International Ballet Competition. Throughout his 16-year tenure with ABT, Mr. Saveliev has toured and
appeared as a guest artist in North and South America, Europe, Russia, and Japan. He has also
performed as a member of touring companies of “Angel Corella & Friends,” “Alessandra Ferri & Friends,”
and “Ethan Stiefel & Stars.” Currently, he serves as a company teacher at American Ballet Theatre and
appears as a guest master teacher in the United States and abroad. Adam Sklute
Adam Sklute was named Artistic Director of Ballet West in March of 2007. Prior to that time he was
Associate Artistic Director of The Joffrey Ballet where he began as a dancer in the mid-1980’s. Since
then Sklute has presented Ballet West audiences with 15 Utah and world premieres by such renowned
choreographers as George Balanchine, Ulysses Dove, Jiri Kylian, Mark Morris, Bronislava Nijinska, Helen
Pickett Andre Prokovsky, Michael Smuin, Ben Stevenson, Twyla Tharp and Stanton Welch. Under
Sklute’s leadership Ballet West has garnered increased national and international exposure. In 2008
Ballet West appeared at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of its Ballet
Across America Festival. In February 2009 the company graced the cover of Dance Magazine for the first
time in 24 years and Sklute’s production of The Treasures of the Ballets Russes garnered rave reviews
from The New York Times among other international publications. An Adjunct Professor of dance at the
University of Utah, Sklute actively oversees Ballet West’s Academy, teaching regularly and developing
and focusing its syllabus with the Academy faculty. Sklute currently serves on the Board of the Gerald
Arpino Foundation.
