PACE 2007 FINAL V5.indd - Beat Wabel
Traditionally catalogues start with a load of hype and hopped up claims but its no use - we’ve tried and we can’t do it. We don’t make rubbish and we’re not going to start talking rubbish either. Our history of innovation and cutting edge practical performance tells our story best. Twenty years ago we pioneered a threadless headset and one-piece steerer stem system, introduced alternative box sections into frame design and used hydraulic brakes and dedicated mounts when everyone else had inch threaded headsets and cantilever anchors. We’ve used carbon fibre and rear fork bridges for nearly twenty years because it provides more fork strength, stiffness and function, not because it’s the latest trend. We don’t make changes for the sake of it, we innovate because we want the best riding experience ourselves. Test Editors and our customers often comment how our products just feel right straight from the first ride- because we’ve honed each development over countless hours of riding, not just run them through a CAD programme or picked them out of a far eastern frame catalogue. Our forks work all year round and our jackets win awards because we ride the beautiful but brutal trails of the northern UK every day, whatever the weather. Even our new fluidworx range has come from our goal to develop the perfect product when no-one else was going that extra mile. Our all new C-Type range is a perfect example. These ‘Competition-Type’ units are developed through World Cup level competition and input from riders who podium every week. The highest spec’ materials possible are used including ultra light titanium and race proven damper upgrades and fine detail tuning takes the product as close to custom factory tuned as you can get. Where we’ve needed to, we’ve extended the programme, for example with the new RC41 C-Type, a super accurate trail tamer developed for World Cup Marathon where Alpine tough singletracks need perfect control. And unique smoked chrome crowns and graphics proudly distinguish the C-Type as something extra special. 2007 marks the twentieth year we’ve been avoiding a suit and tie and calling mountain biking our work, making the best mountain biking equipment we can. It’s not always easy pushing the Pace ahead of mass manufacturers with multi million pound development budgets but we wouldn’t have it any other way. By staying small we can react immediately to what real riders like you want too, rather than just turning out mass production compromises. It means we can still put everything together in a small Yorkshire factory where we can ride some of the best singletrack in the world straight from the door. Perfect when we’re designing suspension units, seals and specialist fluids that set a new benchmark every time we release a new one. Seems we’re not alone in thinking how we work and what we make are the best either. Pace is being recognised globally not only for its quality and innovation and that exclusive high end ‘bling factor’ mass producers just can’t provide, but also for the whole string of World Cup wins and podiums recently added to our double decade racing roster. As a result we’re celebrating our 20th birthday with some pretty significant presents. Not just for ourselves but for anyone else who fancies joining the party. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s been worth the wait. We’ve taken the super responsive, zero distortion handling package of the award winning RC303 hardtail, added our years of suspension and frame building experience and created the ultimate full float fix for technical terrain addicts. Not Cadillac coma style soak it all up trail sedative, but skittering stone, ripped tyre tread, counter steer and carve singletrack surfing at it’s straight to synapse best. Enough travel to suck up the stupid moments and stick it to the most brutal terrain, yet light and lithe enough to run the fastest race bikes into the ground. All in the extended play format that makes truly efficient, perfectly balanced, minimum pain, all gain choice for epic riding. The result is effortless speed, control and traction without diluting the communication clarity or power kick essential for cleaning crux moves. Fit and forget nce reliability also means the same sweet, ride enhancing performa day after day, month after month, whatever the weather. The ultralight Hollowform carbon fibre structure adds the least possible weight, while leaving 2.5in plus tyre room. Optional 20mm axle dropouts with a unique ‘Sub Spindle’ design give surgical tracking and steering stiffness without crushing the sliders together. Low pressure, tuned rate air spring takes you smoothly from linear the small bump suction to carefully controlled big hit collection for most mental situations. Unique Launch Control 2 lockdown drops the fork for steering bite on the most vertical climbs, then pops open automatically at your chosen, externally dialled impact threshold. And for ‘07 we’ve added an ‘Accelerator Groove’ into the LC2 design for even higher function and improved system control. New s Extreme Condition seals maintain function in the worst condition and our CNC machines have carved out even more weight. External for compression and rebound damping use large volume flow maximum accuracy and consistency while hard anodised internals ng and deep bearings with lubrication grooves mean outstandi longevity. Despite the unmistakeable, ultra consistent, linear smoothness of a coil spring, both 4-5in RC40 XCAM or 4.75-6in RC40 Fighter still weigh in lighter than most competitors air forks. Independent magazine tests still put it ahead of most on stiffness too, with the new 20mm thru axle option pushing performance way out in front. Hollowform carbon fibre sliders and CNC crown handle a full 8in rotor while still staying superlight and roomy enough for the biggest rubber. Custom wound Silicon Chrome Steel coil spring takes the blows while large volume, externally adjustable independent rebound and compression damping circuits give outstanding control and stability throughout the full stroke. Our Travel Express system lets you click to the prefered rider height and travel, while Launch Control 2 adds lockout and climbing aid functions - revised for 07 with Accelerator groove for even better performance. The RC39 uses PACE’s unique Hollowform carbon fibre lowers and CNC machined crown to create the stiffest, most responsive race fork on the circuit. Suck up the braking bumps and carve the most vicious lines through corners while others twang into the trees, make every technical section an overtaking orgy and leave the rest eating dust on every descent. Handlebar mounted lockout and minimal weight mean you’ll be tearing gaps in the pack on climbs too. It’s no wonder the RC39 is the fork of choice when World Cup XC, WC Marathon & Commonwealth Games medals need to be won. For those who want a true race replica - enter the RC39 C-Type. On top of all the highly functional and cool 39XC model features the C-Type benefits from a lighter weight damper (moved away from the disc side, safe from disc generated heat), shorter kevlar lockout cable with alloy fittings, titanium hardware and of course C-Type graphics and smoked chrome crown finish. Ovalised Hollowform crown and carbon fibre sliders make the RC39 models the most accurate steering and control rich fork on the circuit. Our large volume linear air spring design provides astounding sensitivity and traction but still catches the big stuff without breaking your wrists. Immediate lockout for climbing and sprinting comes via a cold forged and CNC machined handlebar remote, with arm and damper saving blow off for any unexpected impacts. Hard anodised stanchions, separate compression and rebound damping circuits plus new Extreme Condition seals means it’ll stay that way all season. The RC31 C-Type takes this most rewarding, skill intense component category to a whole new level. Breathtakingly light, they’ll revolutionise the front end feel of your bike from the instant you fit them. Over a kilo lighter than most suspension forks and steel rigid forks they’ll transform your ride. Showcase your skill and finesse, revitalise your riding and get some serious sex appeal on your steed. The ultimate upgrade for confident and classy riders. Tuned lay up of the carbon fibre legs and elastomer crown garters optimise vibration absorbtion without disturbing the surgical steering character. Uniquely the RC31 C-Type joins carbon legs to a cold forged Hollowform crown with thinwall 3al/2.5v titanium tubes (chromo Steel in the XC model), it’s this feature which provides the 31’s comfortable and controlled ride. DIN tested Magnesium safety dropouts mean total braking confidence without twang or flutter. C-Type Ti and standard XC race forks are available with both short leg 420mm and inch steerer options, so there’s no age limit on the ultimate rigid performance retrofit either. Now you can amplify those advantages even further with a full range of dedicated PACE 29er forks for 2007. A custom carbon fibre leg lay up, corrected geometry and increased loadi ng capacity make the RC29 the ultimate fixed lengt h fork upgrade. Tuned compliance combines with shallower tyre contact angles to create phenomen al float at an unbelievably feathery weight. Big claims we know, but MBUK have already rated it 10 out of 10 in it’s debut year. 29in wheels don’t have to just mean rigid forks or compromise short stroke susp ension either. The new RC29 S80 and S100 units extend the proven stiff, superlight Hollowform fork architecture to 29er riders in either 80mm or 100mm travel formats. That’s right, full strok e, full plush, full performance suspension not some half arsed, hard edged 50mm lash up rushed out to plug a hole in the inventory.
