The Club at Pradera 5225 Raintree Drive, Parker, CO 80134 (303)607-5700 Chips Shots Whether or not you agree with "green" movement itself, we can all agree that protecting our environment is simply a good idea. The Club at Pradera is no exception and in conjunction with your Advisory Board of Governor’s has instituted several new initiatives for the upcoming season. Turf Care Corner Well it looks like spring is coming hard, fast and dry this year. Without the typical March snowstorms, this summer is setting up to be a severe drought year. At this point we are down 30” of snowfall for the year and it doesn’t look like we will get much in March. I realize that with these warm days and daylight savings time everyone has the golf bug, but all the turf knows is that it is dry, still dormant, and will have a more difficult time recovering from traffic stress. When playing please be as low impact as possible; stay on the cart path, stay out of the native, limit your practice swings and just to limit your overall footprint. We will be out watering as much as possible, so try to be patient and understanding of the daytime irrigation. We will have to force the turf out of dormancy, which is a double edge sword; the Members get to play early season golf, but the course takes more stress early which may impact conditions late season. We hope that April brings some much needed moisture, but as a club, we need to do our part while the course is at this critical stage. As you may have seen, the Club has recently received certification from Audubon International and is now part of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary and Signature Program. This unique program is designed for golf facilities that meet their high standards and demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment. You will begin to see new bluebird houses throughout the golf course this summer as well as several other unique additions as part of this program. Additionally, we continue to ask that you refill your water bottles at the Aqua Pure filtered water stations located throughout the golf course. The Club is also researching a comprehensive recycling program and will provide additional information to the Board in the coming weeks. Throughout the golf industry organizations are beginning to look at ways to address additional concerns that won't go away without planning. As an example, the National Golf Course Owner’s Association (NGCOA) recently issued a report that found the golf industry needs to act quickly to address the issue of water supply and water conservation. According to the report, addressing this concern is as important as growing the number of people who participate in golf. Thank you, H. Dean Lindsey Regardless of the motivation, environmental protection is obviously beginning to permiate the golf industry, and many others. As a Club we need to continue to do our part to lessen our environmental footprint. In closing and as always, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever answer any questions or assist you in any way. Thank you for your continued support of the Club and I look forward to a successful 2011 season. Dunkle held a slim one-shot lead over Taylor Rodriguez heading into the final round when at the par-3 fifth Dunkle birdied while Rodriguez made double bogey. Dunkle would stretch that lead to six through 11 holes and would not be threatened. Go Green! Receive your statements electronically and save paper.
