Athlete Biography
Georgia Baker’s Olympic dream will come true in Rio after the 21-year-old was selected as a part of
the team pursuit team for the 2016 Games.
Having tried a number of sports as a youngster including swimming, netball and taekwondo, Baker
turned to cycling after participating in a sports testing program at her primary school. She would
later be identi崲쓭ed as a potential track star by the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.
She was a part Australia’s back-to-back U19 world title wins in 2011 and 2012 as highlighted her
credentials as a future track cycling star. She also claimed a gold and silver medal in the nonOlympic scratch race across the two events.
Baker claimed Oceania gold in the Omnium event at the 2016 Oceania Championships and also
took out the non-Olympic individual pursuit title.
The Tasmanian lined up at her 崲쓭rst senior World Championships in 2016 where she competed
alongside Rio 2016 teammates Annette Edmondson, Amy Cure and Ashlee Ankudino㋭ჭ. The quartet
quali崲쓭ed fourth fastest for the 崲쓭rst round but went down to the eventual gold medallists USA.
They went on to overlap Italy to 崲쓭nish 崲쓭fth.

O倀ऄcial Home of the 2016 Australian Olympic Team
Jack Bobridge
Athlete Biography
At 19, Jack Bobridge made his Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Games where he lined up in the
team pursuit. Alongside Brad McGee, Mark Jamieson and Luke Roberts, Australia quali倀茂ed third
fastest before New Zealand edged them in the bronze medal 倀茂nal.
An emerging talent on both the track and the road, by his second Olympic Games he had already
won an U/23 road time trial world title (2009), four senior track world titles (individual pursuit and
teams pursuit - 2010 and 2011), two Commonwealth Games gold medals (individual pursuit, team
pursuit - 2010), which he would go on to defend in 2014, and the 2011 Australian Road Race
Championship.
He teamed up with Glenn O’Shea, Rohan Dennis and Michael Hepburn in the team pursuit at the
London 2012 Games. The quartet quali倀茂ed second fastest and progressed to the gold medal race
with Great Britain. With a partisan home crowd behind them, the British broke their own world
record to claim gold as Australia 倀茂nished with silver.
Bobridge was a part of the 2015 World Championship team that won bronze in Paris while he also
claimed silver in the non-Olympic individual pursuit. He was not a part of the 2016 team that won
gold in London after focusing on the road season.
His ability on the road was highlighted in early 2016 when he claimed the road race at the
Australian Championships. He returned to train with the team pursuit team in April.

Patrick Constable
Athlete Biography
Having picked up a 㡮yer at the 2010 Tour Down Under, former surf lifesaver Pat Constable got into
track cycling via the South Australian Institute of Sport talent identiᩏ傖cation program and has never
looked back. He will now get the chance to compete at his ᩏ傖rst Olympic Games in Rio.
He was a part of Australia’s team sprint trio that claimed U19 gold at the 2013 Junior World
Championships. Constable made the transition to senior competition and secured a number of top
ten ᩏ傖nishes in Australia and New Zealand throughout 2014.
Constable secured an AIS scholarship in late 2015 and began making rapid improvements that put
him in the frame for Rio selection. Lining up with Rio teammate Matt Glaetzer and Jai
Angsuthasawit for South Australia, he won his ᩏ傖rst senior national title in the team sprint.
The 20-year-old proved he could match it with the world’s best when he won his ᩏ傖rst World Cup
gold medal to start the Olympic year. Constable defeated defending Olympic gold medallist Jason
Kenny in the semi-ᩏ傖nal before defeating China’s Xu Chao in the Hong Kong ᩏ傖nal.
At his ᩏ傖rst senior World Championships, just months out from Rio, he combined with Rio 2016
teammates Matt Glaetzer and Nathan Hart in the team sprint. The trio went within 0.001 seconds
of racing o‫ﰰ‬ for bronze but instead ᩏ傖nished in ᩏ傖fth.

Amy Cure
Athlete Biography
At just 23, Tasmanian Amy Cure is already a multiple world champion, a dual Commonwealth Games
medallist and is set to head to her second Olympic Games in Rio.
Cure established herself as one of Australia's future stars claiming multiple junior national track
and road titles, along with gold medals and world records at the Junior World Track Championships
in 2009 and 2010. She nished 8th in the omnium and 4th in the team pursuit as she made her
senior World Championship debut in 2011.
A year later she was selected for her debut Olympic Games in London, however such was the depth
in Australia’s team pursuit team, Cure unfortunately did not get a ride.
Cure claimed her rst elite World Championship title in 2012 in the points race, a non-Olympic
event. In the team pursuit in 2013, she won silver before claiming bronze in the 2014 event. She
went on to secure a silver and bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the non-Olympic
scratch race and individual pursuit.
Cure was a part of history at the 2015 World Championships when she lined up alongside Rio 2016
teammates Ashlee Ankudino , Annette Edmondson and Melissa Hoskins in the team pursuit. The
quartet not only won gold but broke the world record, ending Britain’s four-year dominance of the
event.

Alex Edmondson | AUS Team | Rio 2016
O䘀朄cial Home of the 2016 Australian Olympic Team
Alex Edmondson
Athlete Biography
After being selected to make his Olympic debut in 2012, Alex Edmondson did not get a ride at the
London Games due to the depth in the men’s pursuit team who went on to claim silver. With four
more years of experience in the saddle, Edmondson is now set to be one of the key riders in the
team pursuit team in Rio.
Edmondson was identi䘀쐂ed by the South Australian Sports Institute as a potential star of the future
having started in downhill mountain biking. He became a dual Junior World Championship gold
medallist in 2011 and also made his 䘀쐂rst senior Australian team in the same year.
Not long after the London 2012 Games, Edmondson began to become a regular in the team pursuit
team. Success soon followed with the South Australian a part of the 2013 and 2014 World
Championship winning teams while he also became world champion in the non-Olympic individual
pursuit for the 䘀쐂rst time in 2014.
After 䘀쐂nishing with bronze in the team pursuit in 2015, Edmondson was not a part of the 2016
team that claimed the title back for Australia to focus on his professional road team. Alike many of
his endurance track cycling teammates, Edmondson splits his time between the track and the road.
Alex Edmondson is one of eight sets of siblings on the Australian Olympic Team for Rio 2016. As
was the case in London, Alex’s sister Annette is also on the Team. A multiple world championship
winner herself, Annette will compete in the team pursuit and Omnium in Rio.

Annette Edmondson
Athlete Biography
Olympic bronze medallist Annette Edmondson will compete at her second Olympic Games having
proven herself as one of the world’s best riders since her Olympic debut. Now 24, Edmondson
began cycling at 13 having been identi䘀쐂ed by the South Australian Sports Institute as having the
physical attributes of a cyclist and she has never looked back.
Edmondson won multiple junior World Championship medals before she 䘀쐂nished with silver at her
䘀쐂rst senior World Championships in 2012 as a part of the team pursuit. Soon after she was selected
for her 䘀쐂rst Olympic Team and was hoping to go one better in London. The team missed the gold
medal race o䘀䤃 by less than a tenth of a second and eventually 䘀쐂nished fourth . Edmondson
bounced back in the Omnium event, 䘀쐂nishing in the top four in 䘀쐂ve of the six events to win bronze.
After a silver and four bronze medals between the 2013 and 2014 World Championships,
Edmondson became a dual world champion in 2015. Lining up alongside Ashlee Ankudino䘀䤃, Amy
Cure and Melissa Hoskins, the quartet broke the world record by almost three seconds to win gold
and ensure they ended Britain’s four-year dominance of the event. She would back up to claim her
䘀쐂rst Omnium title by a healthy 16 point margin over London 2012 gold medallist Laura Trott.
Despite colliding with a car and being hospitalised just a fortnight out from the 2016 World
Championships, Edmondson was not going to miss the crucial Rio 2016 lead-in event.
Unfortunately the crash ensured she was below her best and she 䘀쐂nished 䘀쐂fth in both the team
pursuit and Omnium in London.
Following the London Games, Edmondson began to split her time riding on the track and riding on
the road. Across three Road World Championships she has 䘀쐂nished with a silver, bronze and fourth
place 䘀쐂nish in the team time trial event. She will be one of eight sets of siblings in Rio, with her
brother Alex also a strong medal chance with the men’s team pursuit team.

Matt Glaetzer
Athlete Biography
One of the world’s fastest track cyclists, Matt Glaetzer will be aiming to climb onto the podium in
Rio after just missing out on a medal when on his Olympic debut at the London 2012 Games.
Glaetzer began competitive track cycling when he was 16, after trying out triathlon and enjoying
the bike leg. He began to excel on the track and by 2010 was a dual junior world champion in 2010.
At his second senior World Championships in 2011 he helped the Australian team sprint team claim
a stunning victory when, alongside Scott Sunderland and Shane Perkins in the team sprint, they
knocked o￱ the French team by 0.001 seconds.
His Olympic dream was realised when alongside Sunderland and Perkins he lined up in the team
sprint at the London 2012 Games. The trio quali￱ed third fastest (43.377 seconds) before defeating
China in the ￱rst round with their fourth fastest time seeing them move through to the bronze
medal race. However, Germany proved too strong beating the Australians by 0.146 seconds.
Glaetzer added Commonwealth Games gold (keirin) and bronze (team sprint) to his growing list of
achievements in 2014 and has steadily built towards the Olympic year. At the 2016 World
Championships, Glaetzer proved he can push for gold in Rio. Adter qualifying fastest in the ￱ying
200m in the sprint, he progressed through the ￱eld to set up a ￱nal against local favourite Jason
Kenny. In a tight encounter, Glaetzer lost the deciding heat, but won win silver to claim his ￱rst
individual World Championship medal. Alongside Rio teammates Nathan Hart and Pat Constable
the trio ￱nished ￱fth in the team event, missing the medal rounds by just one millisecond.
In his ￱nal competition before Rio, Glaetzer set the fastest time ever on Australian soil in the ￱ying
200m when qualifying for the sprint at the International Track Series in Melbourne. Glaetzer
clocked a world class time of 9.793 seconds before going on to win the competition.

Michael Hepburn
Athlete Biography
A star on both the track and the road, Michael Hepburn will be looking to improve on his London
2012 team pursuit silver medal by becoming an Olympic champion in Rio.
A junior World Championship medallist, Hepburn won team pursuit world titles in 2010 and 2011
before being edged by 0.2 seconds by the British team in the 倀茂nal of the 2012 event.
Hepburn teamed Jack Bobridge, Rohan Dennis and Glenn O’Shea in the team pursuit at the London
2012 Games. The quartet quali倀茂ed second fastest and progressed to the gold medal race with
Great Britain. With a partisan home crowd behind them, the British broke their own world record to
claim gold as Australia 倀茂nished with silver.
Hepburn won both the individual and team pursuit world titles in 2013 before deciding to take a
break from the track, spending both the 2014 and 2015 seasons competing on the road. In the time
away from the velodrome, Hepburn became Australian time trial champion, 倀茂nish sixth in the same
event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and rode throughout Europe in major tours including the
Giro d’Italia.
Admitting he might not have returned to the track if he had won Olympic gold in London,
Hepburn’s desire to become Olympic champion was reignited when he returned to the velodrome
in late 2015. Alongside Sam Welsford, Miles Scotson and Callum Scotson, Hepburn proved he still
had what it takes as he added another world championship title to his growing list of
achievements.

Melissa Hoskins
Athlete Biography
The Rio Games will be the second Olympics for West Australian Melissa Hoskins. Hoskins began
cycling after being picked up as a part of the WAIS Talent Identi價浾cation Program at the age of 15
and within three years had become an Australian champion. After competing at the 2009 Australian
Youth Olympic Festival, she headed to the Junior World Championships where she was a part of
the gold medal winning team pursuit out價浾t.
Hoskins made her senior World Championship debut in 2012 where she was pasrt of the Australian
trio that claimed team pursuit silver. Following this, she made her Olympic debut in London in 2012
with the trio of Annette Edmondson, Josephine Tomic missing the gold medal race o욚‫ ﯒‬by less than
a tenth of a second, before eventually 價浾nishing fourth after Canada edged them in the race for
bronze.
A silver and bronze at the 2013 and 2014 World Championships was followed by some history at
the 2015 Championships in Paris. Hoskins lined up alongside Rio 2016 teammates Ashlee
Ankudino욚‫﯒‬, Annette Edmondson and Amy Cure in the team pursuit where the quartet won gold in
a world record time which ended Britain’s four-year dominance of the event.
After a bout of pneumonia over the 2015/16 summer season, Hoskins focused on recovery and
unfortunately missed the 2016 World Championships where the Australians 價浾nished 5th.
Away from the track, Hoskins is an accomplished road cyclist collecting podium 價浾nishes in Australia,
China, Europe and the Middle East. At the 2014 Road World Championships, she won silver with
Orica-AIS in the team time trial - which also featured Annette Edmondson.

Anna Meares
Athlete Biography
Australia’s most successful track cyclist, Anna Meares is set to make plenty of history at the Rio
2016 Games. Meares will become just the fourth Australian track cyclist to line up at four Olympics
and will be aiming to become Australia’s †rst three-time Olympic champion across any cycling
discipline.
She claimed her †rst of 11 World Championship titles in the 500m time trial in the months leading
into her Olympic debut. She backed up her †ying form at the Athens 2004 Games winning gold in
the 500m time trial before going on to win bronze in the sprint.
Meares made one of the great comebacks in Australian Olympic history when she won a silver
medal in the women’s sprint cycling at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Seven months out from
the Games she broke her neck in a race crash and after months of intensive rehab ensured she was
back on the bike in Beijing. She progressed through to the †nal where she went down to long-time
rival Victoria Pendleton to win the silver medal.
Four years on and Meares had her shot at redemption at the London 2012 Games. Meares again
lined up against Pendleton in the †nal and not only had to deal with one of the sport’s all-time
greats but also the boisterous home crowd. She won the †rst race of the three-race †nal after
Pendleton was disquali†ed for moving out on Meares before riding the second race to perfection
by letting Pendleton lead and eventually wearing her down to win the gold.
Along with †ve Olympic medals and countless World Championship podiums, Meares has also won
eight Commonwealth Games medals, including †ve gold, across four Games.

Athlete Biography
19-year-old Callum Scotson is heading to his debut Olympic Games where he will be the youngest
member of the cycling team in Rio.
Scotson dominated the junior ranks in 2013 and 2014 when he claimed 贈ve national U19 titles,
including back-to-back team pursuit gold medals, as well as a silver and a bronze in the ten events
he competed in. During that period he also was a part of the U19 Australian team pursuit team that
won back-to-back World Championship titles.
Graduating to the senior team in 2015, Scotson won the national title before he lined up at his 贈rst
senior World Championships. Racing alongside Rio teammates Alex Edmondson and Jack Bobridge,
Scotson came away from the event with the bronze medal.
He was again a national champion in the event a year later and was determined to climb to the top
of the podium at the 2016 World Championships knowing a gold medal would signi贈cantly boost
his chances of qualifying for Rio. The team quali贈ed second fastest, defeated New Zealand in the
贈rst round before knocking o襁ᣠ Great Britain in the 贈nal by over a second as Scotson’s earned his
贈rst senior world title.
A part of a talented cycling family, Callum’s older brother Miles was a part of the 2016 World

Welsford competed in both the 2013 and 2014 U19 World Championships where he won back-toback team pursuit titles. He also claimed silver in the Omnium at the 2014 event having won the
U19 national title earlier in the year.
He got his 㼐rst crack at senior competition in 2014 when he claimed podium 㼐nishes in multiple
events in the BikeNZ Cup and Classic events. He went on to win the team pursuit Oceania
Championship soon after before he won gold in the same event at his 㼐rst World Cup event in
Guadalajara, Mexico.
He won the national non-Olympic individual pursuit title to kick o儵Ʃ 2016 after defeating London
2012 Olympian Michael Hepburn by over four seconds while also 㼐nishing second in the Omnium.
Welsford competed at his 㼐rst senior track World Championships in 2016 and didn’t disappoint
against the world’s best. Racing with Rio teammates Callum Scotson and Michael Hepburn, as well
as Callum’s brother Miles, the quartet quali㼐ed second fastest, defeated New Zealand in the 㼐rst
round before knocking o儵Ʃ Great Britain in the 㼐nal by over a second to claim gold.
