Summer Reading Guide
Students entering grades preK-5 are required to read (or be read to) for at least
30 minutes per day, for a minimum of 40 days during the summer.
Berlin Public Schools and Berlin Peck Library have joined forces this year to
create “Every Hero Has a Story,” our website for summer reading. This site can
be accessed using any internet-enabled device (computer, smartphone,
tablet, Xbox, etc).
Directions on how to access and login to this site are
included in this packet. Please see the back of this page for your child’s
username and password.
Every time students read or listen to a book, they should login to our “Every Hero
Has A Story” website and record the title of the book along with the number of
minutes read. When students finish a book, they should check the “I’ve Finished
This Book” box and submit the log.
Students will earn credits for their
reading. The more minutes the
students read, the more credits they
receive. The credits will be displayed
at the top of their page, and can be
used to acquire parts for their online
superhero.
In order to use the credits, students will
click on the Change Superhero button.
They can choose superhero parts by
clicking the arrows. Once their
superhero is created, students can
click the Buy button to purchase
those parts. They should then SAVE
their created superhero.
For every five days that students read and log 30 minutes or more, they will earn
an award that can be picked up at the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library. Their
names will also be entered into weekly and grand prize raffles. Students who
read and log 30 minutes of reading for 40 days will receive a free book,
donated by the Friends of the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library.
Students can also complete challenges to earn
additional awards at the Berlin-Peck Memorial
Library. To view challenges, click the Challenges
Tab.
Students have already been registered at their school for our “Every Hero Has A
Story” online Summer Reading Program. They have practiced logging on and
using the program in their library classes.
LINKS TO THE ENTIRE SUMMER READING BOOKLET and ONLINE RESOURCES ARE
AVAILABLE BY CLICKING THE BELL ICON IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF THE
WEBSITE.
During the summer, if you have questions, please contact the Berlin-Peck
Memorial Library at 860.828.7127, or your school librarian:
