A Message from Our President

My Fellow Fagowees
Every month I put off writing this article until the last possible
moment. Sometimes I start after it's due. I'm a lifelong
procrastinator. But maybe I've found the secret to make myself get
things done on time. It's called the Zeigarnik Effect.
A Russian psychologist named Bluma Zeigarnik was sitting in
a restaurant one night and noticed that the waiters all seemed to
remember every order from the many tables they covered all the way
until they served the food. They then forgot the order completely.
She did some experiments and discovered that we humans tend to
remember things we haven't finished. Once we start a task, it sits
there in the back of our mind until we finish it.
This effect used to be used all the time in TV series. They
would leave you with some kind of cliffhanger and you would keep
thinking about it until the next week. You wanted to find out what
happened next. Today they call this binge-watching. You can't even
wait until next week. You have to have that instant gratification.
Now the theory is that if you do some part of a task, no matter
how small, it will nag at you until you finish it. At least that's the
theory.
I'm going to test this theory now. I'm going to stop writing and
see if my brain will keep me thinking about this article and make me
come back and finish it.

FAGOWEE OF THE MONTH
This month, the Trustees are nominating a special lady as the
Fagowee of the Month. This Fagowee has been working her
butt off to raise money for the race team. She has volunteered
to sell hot dogs, baked goods, and pulled pork. Before
Christmas, she collected items to donate to Laura’s Home, a
shelter for battered women.
This person also volunteered to help out another member by
helping to put in landscape at her house – she was one of 15
people that worked for 4-5 hours that day! Every time we see
her, she has a smile on her face and has such a positive
attitude.
Let’s all be like Renae Delvitto!!
