Our association “Land und Leute” work in the area of education and cultural exchange.
We are a little NGO and independent from political parties.
We develop projects for young people on historical, ecological and cultural topics.
10 years ago we began to reconstruct an old synagogue in a little town between Berlin and the
Baltic Sea, called Röbel. We finished this work in 2006: Now, in Roebel, there is an
education center for students and teachers with an exhibition about the “History of Jews in
the area of Mecklenburg”. There are also facilities, where seminars and classes can be held,
as well as a small hostel, where the participants or other guests can be accommodated. The
heart (Main building) of the “Engelscher Hof” is the old synagogue from 1831.
We organize projects as a possibility for young people to develop and grow social abilities
along the lines of ideas of Kurt Hahn and other reform pedagogues.
Since 2007 every year we have guests from Israel in Roebel. The last historical project with
german and israelian students was about a famous physician Albert Salomon, who was born
in a Jewish family in this town in 1883.

Ir ene Gonzalez fr om Atlantic Gewaltopfer hilfe gGmbH - ADULT PARTICIPANT
The initiator of the project is a Jugoslawien war veterane. In the intension to heal wounds of war and
violence, he bought an old 2nd world war battle ship, a “Kriegsschiffkutter”. The ship is a place for
adolescence and young adults with experience of violence mostly in the family and home. Some of
the youngsters have continued the circle of violence and have become criminally involved
themselves .
The youngsters work on the ship. The experience of being part of a group that is dependent on each
other, and is accomplishing a common goal on renovating and rebuilding the ship is a new
experience for most of the young people. Being on sea, with a ship, that they worked on,
experiencing nature and it`s force, and the dependency on each other, is a main aspect of the project.
As a psychologist, I attend the development, the processes and challenges of the young people and
the project as a whole.

Lina- J ohanna Exner
I was born on the 26 August 1992 in Berlin, Germany as the first daughter of Carola Exner and Friedhelm Exner. Both my
parents had grown up in the former GDR and work as a social worker and a plumber. In 2000, my little sister Felicitas was born.
At this time I went to the local elementary school in a neighbourhood in the outskirts of Berlin. During my six years of
elementary school I attended dance classes and played piano .
In 2005 I started High School and began to learn Spanish. In 2008 I had an internship in the German Bundestag (The German
Parliament) for two weeks, which I enjoyed very much and became interested in politics. I always were tempted to do an
exchange year in the USA, so I applied for the Congress-Bundestag scholarship (also known as Parliamentary-PartnershipProgramme). Luckily I was chosen to get the full scholarship which is especially for young pupils who are interested in politics,
for a year abroad .
After various preparation weeks with an exchange organisation called YFU, I finally flu to Billings, Montana to attend High
school there. In 2010 I graduated from Billings West High School with an honorary degree .
During my year in the US I was very much devoted to a class which was called Genocide. As we talked about various horrible
mass killings all over the world, we got the chance to go to Washington DC to visit the Holocaust Memorial Museum. For me as
the only German student this was a very touching event as we got to talk to a Hungarian women who survived .
In the US I lived with an older couple, which became my second family and I found many friends .
Back in Germany I decided to go to the Nelson-Mandela-International-School to get my German High School degree. As my
mayor classes I decided on politics and English.
Since my exchange year I am very engaged into the exchange organization YFU (Youth for Understanding). I have been a team
member for preparing future exchange students this spring .
Last school year I took part in a school play, which was called Hidden Children. It was showing different stories of Jewish
children during the time of the Holocaust and telling their stories. We as a group were honoured by the fact that we were able to
perform the play twice at the New Synagogue in Berlin.
In fall 2010 I took part in a play were hundreds of student did a simulation of the European Parliament to explain the actions and
procedures of it.
Since this school year started I am a member of a club called Israel-AG. I am very happy to get the chance to come to Israel,
because it has always been a dream of myself !!!!
I will graduate from school in spring 2012. I have various ideas what to do afterwards. I am hoping on a place at a university in
Sweden or the Netherlands. I am also applying for a programme to spent a year abroad to work for cultural organizations.

I am 18 years old and live in Nuremberg. With regard to youth
leadership I had the possibilty to assume responsibility and to
engage in our human rights group in school, where I represented our
school for example at a lecture at the Holocaust Remembrance Day.
For this lecture our Human Rights group was awarded the "Karl-HeinzHiersemann-Award" for its commitment to fight against right wing
radicalism, discrimination and racism and to further peaceful
understanding and democracy.
In September we took part in the International Nuremberg Human
Rights Award ceremony, met with the prizewinner Hollman Morris from
Columbia and organised "Meeting Points" where we discussed with
internationally renowned Human Rights activists.
But I am also active in the European organisation FACE, which
organises yearly youth meetings in different European countries. At
these meetings the participants discuss about their future in a
united Europe and help creating this future actively.
Furthermore I am a trained leader of our paramedics at school. In
this role I am responsible for the schedule, trainings for new
paramedics and the maintenance of the medical devices.
David Ber gmann
My name is David Bergmann, I'm 18 years old and a student at E.T.A. HoffmannGymnasium in Bamberg. I have always been interested in journalism, so I decided to join the
student newspapers editorial staff. I also helped to edit the annual school report in the years
2009 and 2010.
I have recently organized a health camp together with school colleagues, in which we
motivated younger students to lead a healthier lifestyle. There I acted as a manager and
supervisor and learned to arouse their interest for that topic.
I'm very enthusiastic about the prospect of this conference and to meet and work together
with young people of all culture and nation.
Fer dinand Elhar dt
I am 18 years old and live nearby Munich. I am interested in foreign countries. Therefore I
have participated in various school-projects. In the year 2008 I took part in a cultural
exchange project to Kazakhstan for two weeks, in which we dealt with the problem of
forced deportation in the second world war. We did interviews with witnesses and created
an exhibition about our impressions.
Three years later, in March 2011, we realized a new project. By a student exchange we went
to Thailand for four weeks. The purpose of this project was to learn about the culture and
people of a very different country. We lived for two weeks in a village of the Karen, a SinoTibetan language speaking ethnic group which resides on the Thai-Burmese border. My part
was to produce a documentary film about our stay in this village and the life of the Karen.
Apart from my affinity with traveling I like to take pictures and to film.
I am looking forward to the International Youth Conference.

teach English and French, co-ordinate the UNESCO ASP net activities and run the human
rights group. I am also co-founder and President of the non-profit and independent

and Geography. I am hoping that next year I will attend university to study Geography. I am
an active member in the local Jewish community and I love to join in. This conference is
my third time I have visited Israel. I have always felt a connection with this country mainly
because of the religious connection but also because of the variation in landscapes, its
modernity mixed with its fascinating history and how it has grown into being an important
part of the world in little over 60 years of existence.
One of my favourite hobbies is to play and watch football (soccer) and I am a massive fan of
my team Arsenal. I am really proud to be British and what they do for the world. I am really
looking forward to the London 2012 Olympics which brings the world right to my doorstep
